Major props to blizz for at least trying to get this right

I’m watching youtube videos and seeing the responses community managers are giving to people who are asking for achievements and rewards from classic transferable to retail.

I was delighted to see the backbone they showed when telling these people the incentive to play classic is simply to play classic, and not to farm old achieves, to which the players responded with waaaaa enjoy your dead servers no one will play.

This is what blizzard needs now more than ever for wow. A massive undertaking and response stemming from a large desire in the community to experience vanilla wow as close as you can get it. period. They are listening to feedback, taking their time to make it right, and because they believe in what they are doing, they aren’t afraid to tell players maybe vanilla isn’t for you.

I dont personally plan on playing vanilla in any large capacity as of now, but I really hope this works out for the people who want it so bad, and i’m glad to see blizz is taking the time to make something right for a change.

Blizzard does seem to have drawn the line on absolutely ludicrous suggestions such as adding achievements to Classic. Then on the other hand they have added ludicrous things to Classic such as sharding. When it comes to Classic being true to Vanilla things could be worse but they could certainly also be better.

Blizzards been excellent with this. Major clarity in their discussions. “Classic is classic” “There will ever only be one Kazzak per server” and others like “Classic is the reason to play classic, if you don’t like that, classic isn’t for you”

Its been great actually. This board however is full of super bored folks, so even though they have been clear, so many retreaded doomsaying topics recycle daily. The latest one seems to be a claim that on classic servers there wont be city raids because the servers wont be able to handle them.

Absolute horsecrap, but I expect we will read that claim for months until the beta starts and the testers city raid immediately and prove it false with video, lol.

Yeah “classic is classic but… We might destroy it with sharding”

The last I heard was that sharding “might” happen for a limited time in starting zones.

My goal is to get the game I loved back.

If sharding for the first week or two in noob areas is the price to pay for that, I can live with it.

Maybe it’s to prevent threads like…

Do you want lag and hours long queue times? Because #NoSharding is how you get lag and hours long queue times. Granted that would be a more authentic Vanilla experience.

That’s up in the air as far as we know. They said they were considering it. And they probably said that to gague the community’s response.

If there’s any sharding they should at least know it needs to be used in a very limited and temporary capacity if at all. I personally would rather see a few server crashes than have any sharding. Honestly, I would. But I can understand why they would want to avoid that.

I don’t buy the argument that blizzard can’t manage high densities of players. There’s 15 years of technology and development between vanilla and classic, and I’m sure while they can’t guarantee a perfect experience they could a much better job today. My expectation is that it’s a commercial decision to shard because they can reuse retail systems. Hopefully the financial prospects for classic are worth blizzard investing in what’s needed to not introduce sharding.

Wish I could Like the OP more than once…alas I cannot.
As for sharding, I personally think Blizzard is right on the money with their stated intention of usage. Starting zones only, and for a limited time. I have Zero issues with that.

And currently there has been nothing posted or talked about by Blizz that I have seen that goes against this. Possibly the majority of the concern with sharding is IF (no indication that it will happen) sharding gets used in the rest of the world during heavy load due to world pvp or world events/bosses.

Have they actually decided to go with sharding? Last I heard they were still bouncing around ideas and that was just one consideration.

Whatever they decide, the fact that they have the correct philosophy going in means that the game should succeed in creating vanilla again.

Their intent is admirable, and I was also hyped. But I just don’t believe they get it, what they think is a Classic experience is still going to be riddled with modern tech. I think it has a good chance of being pretty hypocritical.

I’m pretty good at selling half truths and sugar coated explainations to the business as well. Talk is cheap.

Sharding was in the demo just so the server could handle all the players during the test. As of now they have said that they are still looking into options and ideas to reduce day 1 population issues.

Yes that is a concern. An epic tm/ss battle would be anything but if sharding kicked in.
