EDIT: Iâll keep it simple, do I want Blizz to make any of these changes? No.
If they are going to make changes, I listed the changes I (personally) would tolerate (if you will) and kind of âpredictingâ (and really want to be wrong) about some possible changes that will be seen, but I donât really like. You can agree and/or disagree with me, thatâs fine. Worst comes to worst, and Blizz will just Retail up Classic, and I just wonât play it. Itâs that simple, really.
Well obviously Iâm not for putting changes into classic servers, as that defeats the whole purpose, but if weâre talkin Classic Plus thenâŚ
I would start with two major things, a new dungeon for each level range, and a bunch of new recipes for professions that are actually useful at that level. For example the 4 stamina 4 Spirit food buff is basically filler. Maybe add something useful there. And frequently by the time youâve gathered the materials required for any upgrade profession item, youâve out leveled it and many more options are available. I would fix that.
After that I would add hell levels. This helps player Kongregate, in areas with brand-new Dungeons and useful professions, and would Aid grouping at low levels.
You realize if they changed the ranking system, people will no longer be incentived to queue for BG or do large scale open world pvp in major cities, yes?
You have to do an overhaul so good it wonât disrupt pvp for it to be effective.
If I were in charge of fresh classic servers Iâd look to curb boost runs via creating diminished EXP in dungeons if someone is 15 or so levels above the dungeon average level. And then Iâd just gut all raid experience to death to stomp out any boosting via ZG or AQ or whatever else people figured out.
People could rage all they wanted, but itâd be good for the quality of the game for people who want to level and run dungeons as the game intended you to do so while playing.
If they are doing classic plus content Iâd be REAL interested in them pulling up their old vanilla intentions because some of the content got cut. Polishing off level 50+ because it starts to become bare for questing purposes, etc.
Not planning to stay in old classic, but a few things i would be happy to see if i did:
world buffs gone in raids. easy, obvious choice.
debuff cap increased to 24
black lotus made a random drop from high lvl herbs, like arc crystals
boost to mana in some form; either higher conversion for intellect/spirit, more mana given by high lvl water, or regens changed to % of mana instead of flat amounts.
nerfed coefficients for downranked spells; make heal-canceling and mastering the 5sr great again
I think this is an important point that we would do well to keep in mind. I believe the current dev team are all of the âretailâ mindset themselves. Iâm sure they truly believe in their hearts that changes would make the game âbetter,â like all these people suggesting it. Probably a lot of players from over the years who have grown up and become devs now. It would not surprise me at all if the current qualifications and/or job requirements are that you have a âmodernâ gaming mindset.
If they had two job applicants who were exactly equal in all qualifications except one had a vanilla mindset and the other had a retail mindset, I believe they would hire the one with the retail mindset as they would presumably âfit inâ better with the current employee base. (as evidenced by how they were talking, and now this survey)
And with all that said, I have a sinking feeling that all these changelings are going to be getting exactly what they want sooner than later. (and I might add, exactly what they deserve). In any case, I wonât be one of those sticking around for it if/when it does happen.
edit: The whole idea of even having a âclassicâ version of the game (I thought) was to have a âmuseumâ version that we could play as close as possible to how it was, without any of the trappings of retail. But no, some people just have to have changes and wonât stop til they get them, and blizz will be only too happy to oblige as long as they can make money off of it. In the end, itâs sadly too true that all these people thought they did but they really and truly donât
What do you think of the argument that preventing boosting wont bring many people back to standard dungeoneering because they are the folks who wouldnt have leveled alts anyway?
Havenât reached my conclusion yet but it has given me pause.
So we canât force people to dungeon if they donât want to. They can also form groups around 4 mages and a healer or quest or aoe farm in open world. If that happens then people who want to dungeon are in no worse of a spot than with boosters sucking up potential group members and if nothing else it also means outdoor content should be more lively.
And if the classic community truly believes the vanilla (or early WoW days) is the way the game should be played breaking some gimmicks that are seen as somewhat harmful to âorganicâ play this shouldnât noticeably impact the ability for the game to exist so we shouldnât fear people quitting over it and the game stagnating either.
