[Main thread] Nvidia 460.xx driver flickering

Anyone try the MPO disable trick? I can’t atm because I’m on 457.30

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Dwm]
“OverlayTestMode”=dword:00000005

DO NOT try this unless you know what you’re doing!

It doesn’t actually work. I brought it up earlier in the thread. I also tested it as well, making sure to reboot for registry settings to take effect, and could still reproduce the exact same bugs with it (flicker and pixelated particle effects). Once you’re on a certain build of windows or higher, it won’t work because it’s so tightly engrained in the DWM frame compositor.

Err it all depends on the location, but RTX Shadows hits hard when shadows are in play. And no i have nothing going on, that is actually what happens when you enable it in WoW. It is roughly a 50% hit on your overall FPS, head to Boralus for example. Trust me mate, either your in a location with zero shadows, or it’s doing nothing.

446.77 camo out a few hours ago, and it’s supposed to fix a lot of these issues. Supposedly.

Still listed as an issue fpr 466.77 but there’s hope now:

[World of Warcraft: Shadowlands]: Random flicker may occur in certain locations in the game [3206341] → This issue will be resolved in the next NVIDIA driver release.

COULD IT BE TRUE?! COULD “THE FIX” BE COMING?

CAN WE ALL REFER TO IT AS “THE FIX” FROM NOW ON?!

Wow, we may finally be in luck

Installed that driver today. Still seeing a massive amount of flickering in Twisting Corridors, Bastion, and Ardenweald.

Using a 1070ti.

A hotfix driver was also released today.

GeForce Hotfix Driver Version 466.79 | NVIDIA (custhelp.com)

The only additional fix listed is " * Display may flicker or lose signal when launching a game on an adaptive-sync VRR monitor in multi-monitor configuration when sharing the same display mode [3314055] " though.

I just read the official release notes. They don’t say anything about the issue being resolved in the next driver release that I can see.

It’s in the forum post notes, instead of the PDF notes. nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/forums/game-ready-drivers/13/456730/geforce-46677-grd-feedback-thread-released-61021/

And the 466.79 hotfix driver that came out the same day won’t be the one to fix it. It will be the next major release like 469.XX or 470.XX or w/e

That’s the first solid info we’ve received in 6 months, thanks for sharing. I had to update, being that far behind on a graphics driver was ridiculous…so flickering Warcraft I got.

1060 6GB. Same issue. Updated drivers. Problem started. Reverting the driver fixed the issue for me.

Thank goodness! This’ll be fixed soon! Been dealing with this forever it feels like; now there is a light at the end of the tunnel! : D

Great to hear there is finally a driver with a fix that will come out Soon™
Based on feedback form the current new driver there are many issues. BSODs etc. I regret buying an Nvidia card.

I had to again turn off Direct X12 and go back too Direct X11 to stop blinking of graphics with the latest patch again …

Microsoft is releasing the KB5003690 update soon™, two of the big fixes in it are flickering and then the stuttering/fps drops problems in full screen & borderless full screen games, which is worse on systems with 2+ monitors.

So watch for it and this may also help us out…

If anyone is still having this issue, I found something that finally fixed it for me last night. Under the Advanced system options, my Graphics Card selection was set to ‘auto detect’. After changing it specifically to my GTX 1080, the flickering stopped. I wonder if it was defaulting to the onboard graphics in my 10700k?

Not relevant to the vast majority who have motherboard graphics disabled. The problem is broader than that old bug and will occur even if you lock the graphics adapter selection in WoW, even if you disable CPU GPU, even if you’re using a CPU that doesn’t have an embedded GPU.

As long as you’re using an Nvidia driver >= version 460 in DX12, you will eventually see terrain flickers.

I did some more looking into KB5003690 and it should be included in the batch of updates on July 13th 2021 as part of that patch Tues.
