It only worked in the zone I first did it in, as soon as I zoned elsewhere in Shadowlands, it broke again. Weep.
It does not. There was an update to the notes that mentions reverting something from Windows update that can fix the FPS issue, but I did not see that update on my build of Windows.
" 4/16/21 - If you are seeing lower performance in games, check if rolling back Windows 10 Update KB5000842 solves the issue: https://old.reddit.com/r/Windows10/comments/mkuo0q/kb5000842_update_march_29_2021_gives_vsync_issues/ "

i don’t use vsync, or gsync.
I know this has been stated as a NVIDIA issue but it’s been going on 5 months now. Blizzard can you not use your influence and apply atleast some pressure to lean on NVIDIA and speed up the resolution process? I mean, it is your game and your audience that is suffering because of it.
I saw that post but that was January 20th, it’s been 3 months since. I get that there is little that can be done from Blizzards end. I just hope that they atleast reach out to NVIDIA every couple weeks and give them the gears, light a fire for a quicker solution.
Probably needs both sides input to resolve this.
The problem is only one side is acknowledging the issue now. I get a GM said they don’t comment unless there is something new but even saying hey we are aware of this and working on it still means more than just saying nothing.
This isn’t a Free to play game.
Decided to cancel my sub after 13 years and this is one of the reasons why. Blizzard doesn’t care about WoW anymore and is simply sucking money from old customers that want to believe that they can return to a golden age. Saving my money and not seeing my credit card charged again for a terrible customer experience was a great feeling. Time for Blizzard to earn their money and not just rely on old customers that won’t give up.
Would be nice to get an update from Blizzard on where we stand with getting a fix implemented; currently it feels as if Nvidia has given up on fixing the issue. : (
I never had the impression that Nvidia even tried to fix the issue, beyond registering an official bug number to it. But no one really has any insight into anyone’s software development processes, so who knows? Maybe it’ll be in the next driver release.
We’ve been saying that since December lol. Blizzard has to carry a lot more weight than we do as users, why they are not applying pressure to Nvidia to fix this doesn’t make sense to me.
It’s possible they are and we just don’t know cause it’s not like they share all their business decisions publicly. Could be a case of NVidia just prioritizing new and upcoming games to highlight the features of their newest cards. Basically an issue of how much is this worth to us to fix this asap? My guess is not that much and they’ll get around to it when it makes “business sense” to them. Whatever that means.
Edit: for example, in the latest driver, the notes tote this “amazing” feature:
" Game Ready for Mortal Shell
This new Game Ready Driver provides support for Mortal Shell’s RTX update, which introduces NVIDIA DLSS, boosting performance by up to 130% at 4K"
So I’m guessing they’re really just focussing on new titles and whatever makes their marketing sell more cards.
In their defense, they apparently were spending all their time working on that Attic demo that came out yesterday and not on fixing their drivers or figuring out how to keep miners from buying all their cards.
Different team… You do realize Nvidia employs somewhere around ~14k people, right?
It’s a four-way issue: Microsoft directX team, Microsoft Windows team, Nvidia driver team and WoW coding team. Or it could just turn out that WoW has a minor bug in their rendering engine that’s using the DX12 API wrong… It takes tons of logs/reports and tons of time analyzing them, before they can even begin to work on a fix for it.
They need to be able to consistently reproduce the bug, to even begin to analyze what’s going on.
They really don’t care who buys them, sold product is sold product. They will just make a new sub model of the 3XXX series with something like a hardlocked key encrypted bios that governs the mining on them. That way you can’t be slick and solder in a new chip to bypass it because the signatures won’t match up with other chips on the board. Sure, it could be cracked eventually, but it would probably put a big stopper in the whole operation.
Okay, I’m seriously at this point angry. I’m so angry I want to release a ton of anger here right now but I know I shouldn’t.

CAN YOU HAVBE THIS STILL HAPPENING??? This is ANNOYING AF!!!
I can’t play the G DAMN GAME without having a G DAMN LIGHT SHOW! Fix this ASAP. It’s only been since DECEMBER!!! I PAY MONEY TO ENJOY THIS GAME! LEAST YOU CAN DO BLIZZARD IS MAKE SURE IT RUNS CORRECTLY. I KNOW CONTENT IS HARD, but AT LEAST MAKE IT RUN CORRECTLY!
have you tried switching the in-game setting to directx 11? worked for me. i’ll switch back to dx12 when all parties involved fix the issue.
And you will take a huge performance hit for doing this. DX12 came with a lot of upgrades for the client, you might want to take some time and read some of this thread.
Going to DX11 is not a solution
Yup for us 4K users with high end graphics cards DX11 is worthless. I have come to settling for the time being on a macro to /console resetgx every time I see the Forsaken Lightshow
Man… driving me nuts like the rest of you
After trying a lot of different driver versions, the 457.51 driver from 12/2/2020 is the ONLY “recent” driver that allows me to use Shadows of any type without flickering. Installed the latest driver (466.11) this morning and flickering returned. Promptly rolled back.
