I finally managed to reproduce the flicker bug, but it took a lot of messing around with settings in the game. Made it happen at 8xMSAA like everyone commonly talks about, switched back to CMAA, but it was still flickering like it was holding on to a residual internal setting.
To fix it: I checked the advanced settings, made sure MSAA was set to NONE and alpha test was set to DISABLED, hit apply, go back to main graphics page, set AA to CMAA, hit apply and then ran the command:
/console gxrestart
I have an RTX3080 and I have the flickering issue, and I assure you - My PC isn’t loaded with “gamer fluff”.
There are no overlays, no extraneous apps or processes open in the background. No NZXT CAM, no iCue etc, all my input hardware is hardware based. No AIO with drivers in the background.
I did a fresh install of windows about 3 weeks ago, and the latest nvidia drivers on that fresh install have texture flicker.
Standing on the Davos platform in HoA flickers so badly that I can’t stand near the chest spawn position without getting a migraine, it’s loot n run away.
Ardenweald is a Discotec-strobing extravaganza.
This issue started after nvidia changed something in the drivers that came out to fix issues in cyberpunk 2077, and have stuck around since.
At this stage, i’m considering swapping my 3080 for a 6800XT because i’m sick of the flickering giving me headaches/migraines.
Try what I said: Switch to CMAA and use the /console gxrestart command
On a side note, I found that doing this also fixes the weird pixelated particle effects bug as well.
Who buys a RTX 3070/3080/3090 to play with CMAA ?

Just gonna say that I have an RTX 3080 and I play 1440p 150% SS (4k pixels) and I only get 85-90 FPS in Bastion so yeah, I could understand 100% SS with CMAA if you prefer the consistently high FPS.
huh? I have a 8700k/3080, i usually have discord running while playing wow, and nothing else. No bios tweaks besides XMP, no OC.
What an odd thing for you to say.
I do run at 133% on a 1440p with 2xMSAA.
CMAA adds too much blurry to details, and at that resolution i rather do no AA over CMAA.
NVidia 465.89 is making the game REALLY flicker, never seen this before and it’s not TOO distracting but when the maw and Revendreth becoming a disco hall, can be a big distracting sadly. Hopefully this is fixed quickly.
Checked the profiles on the new 465.89 drivers. While it was easy to guess (correctly) that these still don’t have the correct flag set in either the Retail or Classic profiles, they’ve also removed it from the generic (and overridden) WoW profile once more.
Obviously the issue, as Slayte mentioned, is still listed as open by NVidia.
What size monitor do you have and what is your viewing distance(with 20/20 vision corrected)? The average eye can see details between 0.1-1 arcminutes depending on what you’re looking at. The general consensus is somewhere around 0.5. Based on that and your screen size, you can use an equation to determine optimal viewing distances.
It’s baffling that this is still an issue.

I’m using the 465.89 drivers. Resolution of 1080p running at 144hz. Resolution scale 100%, CMAA enabled. No flickering issues here.
I am not a programmer nor am I a DX12 expert, but I have found that the flickering for me is caused by using MSAA, specifically, MSAA 8X. I have a 2080 RTX Super.
Simply changing the AA to CMAA (although not as good), fixes the flickering 100%. However, MSAA 8X, which is what I always run, is a flickering mess.
You can test this easily. Go to an area and align your camera so that everything is flickering, it seems to increase or decrease depending on the camera angle. Once you get it flickering, simply put CMAA on and it goes away.
Editing the nVidia profile with the Profile Inspector is a temporary fix, when you leave an area and come back, it starts to flicker again.
I am running the latest drivers, run at 2560x1440 @ 144hz.

Only happens to me in Ardenweald, which is ironic because it’s the prettiest zone in Shadowlands but absolutely ruined by this flickering crap.
I just updated my drivers yesterday and now I have the flickering. I didn’t before. Like Sinjo it seems to happen just in Ardenweald (although I’ve only been to Oribos, some older expansion zones and Ardenweald so far today).
It stops when I’m working on my second screen, like now. While typing this WoW is open on my main screen and not flickering. But if I go back to playing it starts flickering again.
Also, the flickering seems to happen only when looking (directing the ‘camera’) at the flickering elements head on. Rotating the camera so that all the flickering elements are on one side or the other of the center of the screen usually stops the flickering. Though this might be due to lighting angle.
Wish I hadn’t updated my drivers.
Edit to add: So far, it seems to happen almost exclusively in the camp at Glitterfall Basin.
Whatever MSAA is, mine is set to none.
I have a 9900K, MSI 2080TI and I can verify this. Switching Antialiasing to CMAA fixes the flickering. On MSAA 8X its a lightshow. Dreamgrove in particular is REALLY bad.

My game is also flickering now nvida 465.89 is newest, idk if nividia failed or if one of wow’s hitfixes broke it but i get flickering in ardenweald as well now unless i turn shadows to low this never ever happened before im on a very high end tech computer
Disable MSAA or use one of the other options and the problem goes away. Restart the client after switching or use the console command: /console gxrestart
You can also switch to DX11 as well.
