[Main thread] Nvidia 460.xx driver flickering

While the flickering is worse in SL it shows up in BfA and and to a lesser degree some Legion zones as well.

This has been reported in FFXIV so this is more of a nvidia issue, I’m not going to link their support forums but its there.

I reverted to 457.51 until they can fix the issue.

Does it matter if I have GSYNC? which areas in BFA does it happens?

Was getting this issue when I had the nvidia 2070 super selected to be used in WoW. I changed that setting to auto-detect so it would use the Intel drivers instead, and no more flickering issue.

If you are actually using Intel drivers then you’re also using the Intel CPU on-board graphics which is a dramatic hit to performance. Nvidia graphics can not use the Intel driver. Auto-detect would likely default to your dedicated graphics card but I suppose it’s possible your CPU graphics could be chosen although your framerates would be horrible. More likely is that making changes to your graphics can make the flickering go away for a short while but they return after a while most times.

I’m still getting 100fps average.

Sorry but what you are saying does not make sense. If you are truly using intel drivers you would be using your onboard video, which will not net you 100 fps. Just not possible. I think its still using ur video card.

Some dual-GPU setups do some kind of weird co-rendering thing where both GPUs are involved, different from SLI or DirectX 12 multiGPU. Or did, anyway. And if that’s what happening, maybe the code paths involved may change the displayed textures.

Seems like a reach, admittedly.

I’m curious what you see that leads you to believe an Intel driver is controlling your Nvidia GPU.

driver 461.09 on the evga 3080 ftw3 and AMD 5900x. swapping to dx11 fixes for me but feels wrong. also having weird issue with WoW not utilizing the 3080 entirely and performing poorly in BGs namely.
All of this is happening in retail as of the time of this post

Im having this same issue ever since the Cyberpunk Nvidia driver dropped. Ive noticed turning triple buffering on or off fixes it. Unfortunately have to do that every time you log in.

The only real “fix” to this is to revert to 457.51 until NVidia and Blizzard fix the issue. That is the only stable driver.

Same issues post cyberpunk drivers, any shadowlands zone or instance, any time, alt tabbing seems irrelevant to the issue, and the flickering happens on similarly grouped objects, all leaves on trees in the area, all floors of a certain type etc.
its been a month, please fix!!!

You should probably post that on Nvidia’s support forums, since Blizz can’t fix Nvidia’s drivers.

Yet, it’s only happening with WoW and not other games?

I’m sure you’ll hear a lot of folks complaining about other games here. :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

And modern gaming-oriented display driver suites are chock-full of game-specific optimizations and configuration that yes, a driver fault may affect only one game.

This is an Nvidia issue. Blizzard is cooperating with NV and encouraging them to get it resolved, but ultimately this is Nvidia’s issue to resolve.

They [NVidia] didn’t errantly remove the profile flags from “other games”, though. If you take out the Cyberpunk profile from the non-working-in-WoW drivers than I’m taken to believe it doesn’t work properly either, so why does it get a pass for requiring such flags when WoW doesn’t? Few if any games run “vanilla” driver settings these days, and it’s likely some of those actually need tweaks (they’re just too obscure for NVidia to care).

You could probably import the Cyberpunk profile into older drivers and play just fine, exactly the same way you can import the missing flag into newer drivers and play WoW fine. Hell, I’ve been running on 461.09 since I made my last post here (8 days ago) with no flicker to speak of after adding the flag myself.

461.40. 2 minutes flicker free until zoning into Bastion. Then flicker city all over.

I was about to come ask if anyone had been brave enough to try 461.40, but alas.

One day we’ll have a non-workaround fix.

I feel like with the horrible 30xx launch and these myriad driver issues, Nvidia has taken some stupid pills or something.

Aww. I was really excited about seeing new drivers being available only to be disappointed yet again.
