I’m an experienced software developer.

The reason why this bug reached live can ultimately be placed on documentation.

Operating System (OS) has a programmatic interface to access its functionality (ie GPU logic) and it has methods which can be used by apps/games/programs on your Mac/PC. These are native methods and are documented. The document should state which versions of the OS it supports. Also it is not very common to add new functionality to all (or even any) older major versions of the OS (Mojave, Big Sur etc). But the documentation should guide developers how to handle older versions (which alternative methods to use for the same goal).

WoW game developers use many different interfaces and Blizz probably creates or uses a library which provides common interface for different OS’s (ie MacOS + Windows). This library builds the game differently for each platform, using the correct native methods, thus simplifying development process for multi-platform games. It should also check for OS version support when using these methods and if needed, use a different/deprecated method for older OS’s. This is the job of the common library developer(s) to read the documentation properly and handle all the cases - also documenting this in their own code.

Also it is up to the dev team to have automated crash tests which run before a version is released live. Latest versions of all major OS versions should be tested if they launch, allow login, load the game. For MacOs you need physical devices, but there are many providers which allow you to run theses tests on their servers (not very costly). Alternative solution is to have these macs/windows with appropriate OS versions in-house and do the testing manually.

Of course, RTFM (read the fine manual)

To someone immature, fan of the company, one that let them take your money while not providing the service, one that even fears talking bad about the company/members because they "could do something"or some kind of “reprisal”, one that does Not know what damage control is nor took the time to think why the company would do it (hint… they don’t want to compensate +1k people, more so if they know the majority are too into the game and the company itself like to talk bad about it…
I’m a conspiracy theorist, but I was right, they kept blaming people’s pcs and you got a week out of the game
hope you had fun reading my “conspiracy theories” during this week

Still can’t login on my desktop. This is the version that doesn’t work:

Monterey is version 12.6.3
3 GHz Dual-Core Intel Core i7
16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
Intel Iris 1536 MB

running the game off an external ssd as the Mac HD was slow

xxxx

My MacBook Air (11-inch!) will run the game:

Monterey 12.4
2.2 GHz Dual-core Inter Core i7
8 GB 1600 DDR3
Intel HD Graphics 6000 15.36MB

Hope something here helps

I’m so bored of a week without WOW, I’m playing Heroes of the Storm against the Ui on noob level.

wait we get store credit for these delays?

I opened battle.net app and Wow Retail required an update. I updated to 10.0.5.47871 and it works. Old 2012 MAC running Catalina.

Thank you Blizzard.

No, I had it already. There will be no restitution for this debacle, I’m afraid.

Looks like there is expected maintenance tomorrow- hopefully this will be fixed then?

Crash after cinematic.
Thank You

They said the fix is coming Tuesday. Let’s hope it doesn’t reveal more crash causing bugs hiding behind the bug that is being fixed, like the last fix did.

iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, 2020)
3.8 GHz 8-Core Intel Core i7
AMD Radeon Pro 5700 XT 16 GB
Big Sur 11.2.2

After Friday’s partial fix, I now see a black screen with “connecting” and the DF logo. Then it crashes again as before.

Hopefully tomorrow’s the day

Ya… we will be lucky if they even get around to fixing it for the rest of us…
I hope they do, but I’m not holding my breath.

OS Big Sur 11.7.3

Hi all. Just an update to report that my home iMac running Catalina now launches the game successfully. Prior to that fix I also upgraded to Ventura, which did solve the issue on my work laptop.

Yeah, like all the people who promised to move to Canada after Trump got elected, not gonna happen. LOL!

Only way I was able to make it work was to upgrade from 11.7.3 to 13.2 OS. Otherwise I kept having the same error

Add another to the list. It’s been several days, and, even opened a ticket. I did brows the forms, but it took a mod answering my ticket to to find this, so I’m lousy at finding things. It’s nice to know I’m Far from the only one to have this issue. It’s pretty frustrating honestly, that I’ll probably miss the Lunar holiday while this is fixed.

This is the problem. The Lunar holiday, vault rewards for M+,raid, pvp, weekly rep/renown quest, soup event, the assault, world boss etc. I am sure there are a bunch of other things we will be missing not listed.

edit: forgot about the time walking event
