Main concern with Pelagos, as a trans individual

It’s okay to be wrong.

My that is some take on a game. They probably should have left this out of this expansion I guess if people were going to interpret it that way.

Just popped in to say, I love the new look.

I dont like them purely because they refuse to let go of being trans. They’re in bastion. They’re meant to let go of and forget their past life.
Its the one part theyre holding on to.

I think i would have liked them a lot more in like ardenweald or something where they’re not meant to forget everything. It would make more sense to me.

Other than that I have no issues with their character

The Path is wrong though.

That’s why pelagos is an aspirant and not an ascended. He hasn’t let go of everything yet.

Or they should have waited until an expansion not centered around death? Technically I’m sure rebirth is a theme as well.

I won’t disagree but they don’t remember anything else about themselves.
They think the body they were born into is so important because of gender but they can’t even remember what they looked like back then.

Yeah but it just rubs me the wrong way that they don’t remember their own name or even their race but they refuse to let go of what sex they were born as.

If you cant even remember your own species, its time to let it go

Man if that’s not the most accurate representation of human beings in 2020, I don’t know what is.

Make a little visual on every npc to say “trans”or “nontrans” that way we can keep blizzard on check

You can see the process of how things work in bastion. When you arrive in bastion, you’re just a soul, you might resemble yourself in life, or you might be formless.

As you undergo your trials along the path, you not only start to forget, but your anima shapes you into a new Kyrian form that represents your true inner self. Pelagos took the form of a man.

Kyrians aren’t just total amnesiacs glued to their path, at least not at first, for some, it takes eons to truly let go of their past and ascend. Until then, they still retain foggy memories of their lives.

yeah but they make a point of not letting go of their original sex. Even though they don’t even remember what their own race looked like.

Any other covenant they could have retained those memories and it would have felt more genuine to me.

As it stands it feels like their whole character boils down to being just trans.
And sadly I mean literally because its the one piece of them they cling to.

I don’t think Pelagos even brings it up unless you ask him in bonus dialogue after you become soulbinds. Before that, him and Kleia are helping you get through your own personal trials in bastion so you can get an audience with the Archon.

you are correct there
I just wish it presented differently
No issues with having a trans character

Take my opinion with a grain of salt because I’m merely a trans rights advocate but not trans myself.

I think it’s a bit of coincidence, honestly–same with the Night Warrior guys. I feel like they’ve been keying up their LGBT rep recently, and their trans character and “slightly bigger gay characters than enchanting NPCs” representation happened to fall in a death-themed expansion. Quite honestly, I don’t feel like they did it with any intent of disaffirming transitioning in life, rather it feels like they went “hey the Kyrians can like pick their best-suited body I have an idea”. But I definitely see your side too–I think I’m somewhere in the middle.

Though the “bury your gays/trans people” trope is played so straight it’s almost funny.

All that said, I feel like my bigger thing is that they changed his pronouns from they/them even though trans men who use they/them definitely exist. Like, Pelagos can be a trans man and go by they. But I think that was also a “they’re a little confused but they’re trying” moment.

Like… How?

have them remember more about their former life. If they remembered who they were it makes sense to me to celebrate things.

But to have it be the only thing they remember makes it seem that being trans was the most important thing about them.

If they could say “in life my name was fjrifhr and my race was fjfofnr” I would like them much more

why is this weird, creepy stuff being shoved in our faces?

But… That’s not how Bastion works.
I also don’t think it’s that important.
