Mail history

I just mailed some items and not to the character I thought I sent it to. How do I find out whom I sent it to?

Also how to I clean up the names that show up as I type? There are many there that I never heard of and are apparently getting free stuff from me by accident!

If you need the mail returned, then you can put in a ticket requesting such. However, please note that if the recipient has already opened the mail and accepted it, then Blizzard is hands off. So time is of the essence in submitting your ticket.

Kyzera beat me to the mismailing incident, and I second that time is of the essence.

As for the second part of your query, that’s Blizzard’s autofill intended to assist with people that may not remember exact spellings of a character’s name.

I thought it was a feature of an addon I use, to be honest. Do you use addons?

Thanks for the link. To avoid future incidents, how can one edit the entries that show up as you type names?

just to add if you are mailing items to your alts, add a BOA item that way you can not send it to someone else just your alts.

There might be more, but the two places I remember names coming from were your friend list and your guild roster.

There is no way through the native interface, that I am aware - to prune names from that list.

Thanks for the reply. Is there a local file that can be edited, or is the mail contact list server-side?

That is a good question, but I suspect it is server-side. It pulls from things like your friends list, your guild list, etc.

Thanks for the reply, I’ll start pruning my friends list and see how it goes. Hopefully it doesn’t keep names from guilds one used to be in.

hi,

try the postal addon it has an option to clear the list of names you have sent mail to. Also it is great for sending things to your alts as it puts those in a menu by themselves.

Thanks, I’ll check it out. Does it affect the list that the default mail uses, or its own?

It will keep a list of who you mailed, who all your alts are (once each one is logged into), people on your friends list, and guild.

It does all this in separate pop-out menus in the mailbox. So you get to choose from the list versus having to type out each name.

I absolutely love using this addon.

EDITED TO ADD SCREENSHOT OF ADDON:

I also use an addon, MailOutbox, that gives you a list of who you sent what, when. It’s woefully out of date but still works:

Well my advancement seems to lead to similiar issue to this as if of an addons that got justed or some sort of person intro

I’m not exactly sure what issue you might be having Miguel, but this thread is very old. So old in fact, that there is now a self-help option to return mail that you’ve accidentally sent to the wrong person which you can find here:

If you believe that you might have an issue with an addon, I’d recommend considering a Full UI Reset to get back to a stock UI and maybe make sure all your addons are up to date prior to re-adding them to your game.
