Not just any cop killer. Tyrande killing the watchers to free Illidan would be like if the mayor of San Francisco started killing the personnel of Alcatraz to free Al Capone.
And then they go ahead and re-elect the mayor afterwards.

I’m sure Maiev didn’t spend money to become a panda.
She would if she could cause maybe she could do more with a food buff
Not only does this Alcatraz incident happen, but everyone outside of it is just fine with what happened. The public, other cops…THE ENTIRE COUNTRY THAT HEARS ABOUT IT.
Edit: Even neighboring ally countries hear about the atrocity and be like “Yeah, internal matter. We cool.”.
Then the Warden goes “hey, you know what, I don’t think the mayor should have the power to kill her own constituents. We should probably remove the mayor from power!” But that’s such an unpopular idea that they chase the warden out of town. And then the deputy warden steps up and takes over Alcatraz for a bit, but the stress of the job is so bad that she just starts blaming the warden for everything that goes wrong in the warden’s absence and then commits treason at the first opportunity.
Yeah uh… it’s very easy to fall down the “Maiev did nothing wrong” hole.
The problem is that Tyrande and Malfurion suck because of Blizzard writing. Putting Maiev in their place just means she will suck because of Blizzard writing.
Super easy.
Tyrande and Malfurion were just starting to get interesting again when Blizz decided that was vengeance enough for hundreds of thousands of dead. Shadowlands is coming, and we’ll find out more, but I fear they’ll just make them weak, or Elune lame, or something stupid to sock it to the Kaldorei yet again.
I don’t understand where people are getting that Maiev is a dark figure. I need to read up on her some more because I don’t get it right now.
She fought for the Alliance in Darkshore. She’s been working with the Night Elves as a member of the Alliance this entire time up until Legion, now she rejoined.
Like this.
She isn’t. She’s edgy, but not dark. Maybe lawful evil.
Most of Maiev’s “villainy” comes from the novel Wolfheart where she flat-out becomes a terrorist. But even the current writers seem to be implicitly suggesting that Wolfheart was way too radical a characterization of Maiev that they have consistently ignored it in just about everything having to do with Maiev from that point onwards (and even poked fun at how “nobody remembers it” in Heroes of the Storm).
Well of course that’s true. But no one in this thread really thought Blizzard would actually do any of this, haha.
I haven’t read this book. But I feel like I was led to believe that she was just killing people she felt betrayed the night elves by embracing arcane magic again. This was when they allowed the night elf mage race/class combo.
Is that not what happened?
I just read an excerpt about her from the book. Yeah. Killing Highborne. Plotting to kill Malfurion. Killing others and wanting to end the relationship with the Alliance.
Maive is probably leaning on the side of evil, but IMO she’s probably lawful neutral still since maybe she thought they were incompetent leaders for her people. We could look at it like pure evil but this is an area of grey morality. Where intention for justice was maybe her intent, even if it was leaning on evil methods. Therefore prolly in between Lawful Evil and Lawful Neutral for sure.
In stormrage book and in warcraft 3 she’s pretty relentless
Maiev isnt a leader though…
It would certainly make for an interesting foil to Shandris and all the High Elves that are kowtowing to the humans in such a typical and boring manner. Remember when you had Shandris shilling for humans like everyone else? How about the fact that Lor’Themar and Malfurion are clownish and aren’t taken all that seriously, but the sisters of Silvermoon are taking all the spotlight, and ALL of them have human partners? This half-elf and half-human thing is so drab, too.
NO! Wrong! Bad Troll!
maive almost killed malfurion once
she’d only be stabbing you for being a derivative elf with the audacity to exist in her presence.
Tyrande hasn’t been much of one either tbh
Just as she was in Legion and Darkshore. It’s pretty clear there was an unspoken character arc Maiev followed to get to the point where she was in Legion. Her relentlessness is a good thing especial;y when it comes to defence.
