Some have referred to the archetype of Spellblade Aluriel who uses the same schools of magic as a mage. I think, in general though, the image of a spellblade/battlemage is of a lithe, dexterous combatant that augments their martial prowess through the arcane arts. Think Legolas (in melee, anyway) with magically enhanced abilities and short range spells. Enhancement shaman is a good comparison, but rather than drawing on more naturalistic/elemental forces, the spec would draw on the arcane.
I don’t know much about Warlocks, but Shaman? That class is so clunky, especially during BFA. I haven’t tested current spec in pre patch, but I must say, Shaman is a busy class. The maelstrom spenders, totems, heroism, healing and cooldowns. I can’t stand long CDs, ridiculous short duration of totems, and high spenders.
TL:DR version, it’s an awkward class.
why did you writed survival and monks?
Chi is not magic, and survival doesnt use magic at all…
people keep asking for it because there´s a lot of things we can do with magic in the melee department…on the ranged side not so much:
necromancer, tinker, dark ranger…all that i can think off
for melee for instance i can think of a lot more in just a though:
spellbreaker, blade master, void knight, battle mage, tinker, etc
Why would they be the same? Most people want it to be a mage spec. That would mean it would have access to iceblock, blink, ranged spells .etc
Sub does use shadow magic. Even has a talent to replace backstab with a shadow magic attack. Last i read it was in the spec summary as well.
Survival does use gadgets but hunters use nature magic. All aspect spells are exist to reflect the use of nature magic.
If monks don’t use magic then neither do shaman as they both utilize the element of spirit in different ways in combat. A shaman uses it to commune with the other elements and the monk uses it more directly to enhance their physical abilities or attack directly with spells like crackling jade lightning, chi burst, and even create duplicates of themselves.
This is simple. Arcane Archer for one spec and Spell Blade for the other…Done…
Gonna prune arcane shot from hunters then?
I think what they mean a cloth armor melee magic class is what they want imho.
You Realize Enhancement shaman literally has to cast enhancements on their weapons before fighting?
then as they fight, they gain faster casting speed and more spell damage.
Then they unload spells, and go back to melee.
How is that not a “spell blade”?
You could replace the name of that ability with literally anything.
A lot of people are always unsatisfied, and will always want something new.
This is actually not a bad thing.
Life eventually ends. So, while you’re alive… taste as much as you can.
People imagine new classes. If we can imagine it, then it could probably happen. So, they just want to see it happen.
However, too many classes can create clutter. I would rather see additional specs added to the classes we already have. Warriors could have 5 or 6 specs, for different kinds of warriors… gunfighters, samurai, commandos, rangers…
What ever you are trying to do here is stupid.
I believe not many people actually like Shaman. It’s really clunky. I already stated enough about its horrible state back in BFA, no clue if anything changed in pre patch.
I think what makes a mage vs what makes a warlock, vs what makes a shaman, etc., is how they access their power. Mages access their power through the arcane, warlocks through the fel, and shaman through the elements. While all three classes have fire abilities, they access these abilities differently. Similarly, warlocks, priests, and death knights all have spells that do shadow damage, but they access this shadow power from different sources; priests from the void, warlocks from the fel, and death knights from, well, death.
They Turned it into a spellblade.
in Legion and BFA is was just mashing stormstrike.
Now it is a legitimate, Magic/Melee Hybrid magic user, that gets incredibly powerful Single Target and AOE spells by using their Enchanted melee weapons.
A lot of people don’t think its a spellblade because it’s not a generic cloth wearing sword user: I don’t know what to tell those people. WoW isn’t bland and generic like they want.
I hate Threads like this, because people will ask for classes without trying every existing class.
Warlocks cast spells and summon familiars. How is that not a mage? The answer to that question answers your question.
I do want something that isn’t an already existing class (or a twist on one).
Tinker or bard are the up front choices as tinkers are defined enough in warcraft while unique enough that they don’t step into another class’ fantasy.
Bard on the other hand isn’t defined at all in warcraft terms and likely wouldn’t even be called a bard but it is an open enough concept that the developers would have a lot of creative freedom, for better or worse.
By that logic, WoW should only have four DPS specs: melee physical damage, ranged physical damage, melee magic damage, and ranged magic damage.
I play my enhancement like a spell blade. I toss elemental blasts and lightning bolts from range, and then Stormstrikes and lava lashes up close until I get the instant cast procs.
If people want something else, more power to them, but for me, it’s a perfect spell blade class
This isn’t a reply i’m going to justify.
Warlocks and mages are clearly different.
Yeah no. WoW should have lots of classes, Lots of interesting classes.
They shouldn’t have classes that are exactly the same as existing classes, and their play styles.
Is your head on straight? do you need coffee or something?
Tinker seems like the most obvious one:
- Tinkers have a Hero in Warcraft 3 to steal from, just like every other class
- Tinkers require very little justification, since they’ve been in universe since warcraft 2
- They’d fulfill the request for another ranged class.
- Blizzard has already created NPC Tinkers, with abilities that fulfill 3 roles. Tank, Healer, and Ranged DPS.
- Tinker’s don’t tread on existing classes.
I do not think bard is likely at all. Like, at all
Blizzard won’t make a class that they can’t reuse Warcraft assets for. Every class is based on WC3 for that reason.
