In all these new class posts I’m going to suggest shadow hunter, because it’s the superior option and that’s just a fact. (I know it’s an opinion for the people who can’t read humor)
To me enhancement shaman is such a similar concept to a battlemage with the conjuration of items and golems, as well as the ability for some ranged spells as well as some healing spells, all with martial affinity.
The issue appears to be the motif around the shaman versus more of a wizard plus soldier combo.
I wouldn’t be opposed to a physical ranged class/spec, maybe they could find new life for the long since removed “Thrown” weapon type?
I agree, axe thrower needs to happen. Or a jester class. Same shtick. I still think they should swap arcane blast for an arcane blades spell on arcane mage.
Can we PLEASE get a gosh darn ranged damage dealer?!
Some of us don’t like melee…
the ES Battlemage was always my favorite class.
I mean, not a playable class fantasy anyhow. Mages even had a spellblade follower that had her own version of Whirlwind but instead it spit fireballs out of it during one of the class hall missions where she aids you.
People want a battlemage, people want spellblade aluriel.
That archetype would be filled better currently by Enh Shaman, but it deviates from the mage fantasy of arcane knowledge since shamanism is more of a religious/mutualistic relationship about asking help from the elements.
In terms of new classes and specs you have to separate what people want gameplay wise (mostly a new ranged class) and what people want as class fantasy.
I could have made that clear, but that’s what I meant. I was defending the request for such a class fantasy for player characters. OP’s argument is reductionist nonsense, if I’m taking the gloves off for a minute.
I think people just need to stop asking for melee classes.
Also survival isn’t magic based. They throw grenades at people.
This was my thought. Enhancement shaman is a perfect battle mage.
Aspects are nature magic. Don’t know about you but summoning a barrier shield around you and the animations during aspect of the eagle speak otherwise.
So they… want Blizzard to change their ability tooltips. Got it. lol The playstyle, visuals, and effectiveness would be the same.
i want a cloth wearing melee class. and a mail wearing healer. and a plate wearing spell caster dps. and more gun/bow/crossbow using classes!
What people are asking for in a spellblade or battle mage type class is a very specific class fantasy. That class fantasy doesn’t exist as a playable class. So, it really doesn’t matter what other melee specs use some kind of magic. Your argument is as absent reason as would be the argument that mages don’t need to exist because we have warlocks or elemental shaman.
What specifically do spellblades do that aren’t represented in the game?
Sub and Survival isn’t magic based. Survival uses traps and such, and I’m not sure if Sub uses darkness magic like shadowy duel or slip into the shadows–I dunno.
Also, Monk isn’t magic based; the tank drink alcohol, and the other two talents uses chi [qi/ki aka energy].
A tank mage; using casting spells to tank, no pets included–that would be cool. Though cloth isn’t great for defenses and there’s mana issues.
What? Monks are not magical
We have them and love them which is why we want more! And I also would love more casters but instant spells ya know? Instant spells feels better then waiting and casting.
I still don’t think frost and fire mages are real mages. I get that fireball is an iconic mage spell but why have that when an elementalist is already a class. Maybe a thuramage cluld have worked but elemental magic being the default of mage is lazy and i hate that every game that has magic does this.
Arcane mages are the only real mages.
