Mages missing Create Portal ability

I just now - like yesterday - learned that my Mages (both over 60) do not have a way to create portals. From what others say, there should be a spell in my spellbook that makes me able to create new portals. Neither my 60 Frost Mage, Burnswifrage or my 62 Frost Mage Mischelly have a spell to create a portal. Both Mages have all the portals that you get from portal trainers.
Help?

ETA: I am NOT Asamondias, nor am I a 26 Worgen Death Knight. That must have shaken loose during the latest expac / patches. I am, however, {Removed}.

This is the first I’m seeing anything about portals? It may be something in your UI borking things out. I just checked in on my mages.

That’s my level 60 Arcane mage. Checked her other specs, all three had both portals and teleports available. Then I popped onto my other 60 Alliance mage, my level 50 and my banker mage who is 26. All of my army has their portals and such. I don’t have any with the newest yet, but that is the only hindrance. Though after typing this I may have to start working on one to test this theory and see if something borks out as they level.

IN THE MEANTIME, now that I’ve done rambled, you may want to try and reset your UI, see if that fixes things. If something happens while I level that messes with my portals, I shall return here and update my findings.

Portals and Teleport base get learned by leveling. You only have to buy additional Portals and Teleports. They should be there.

I checked a Frost Mage. She still has both. Frost Mages have to talent into their Elemental, but not Portals and Teleports.

Edit:
I logged into a level 4 mage. She shows Portals in her spell book as being learned at level 24.

I always forget to turn all add-ons off when there’s a hitch stopping things. Hmph, let’s go try that again, servers should be up I think.

Well, it was a nice idea. Turned off all the add-ons (I only had, like, 3 running) reloaded the UI and wah wah wah, nothing happened. Again, thanks for the idea.

Try the steps in the link that Leilleath provided to do a Full UI Reset. Turning off the addons and reloading the UI isn’t enough to rules out a faulty UI or addon.

I did a full reload of the UI and guess what? You got it, nothing changed. I’m afraid I’m going to have to go to Blizzard. That’s okay, I guess. Just getting prepared for a minimum of 48 hours up to one week for an answer. Here’s hoping Blizz can fix it.

All add-ons are turned off and, actually, missing in action. I love having to find and reload add-ons, lol. The full UI reload didn’t do squat.

Are you reloading your UI or resetting it to default? There is a bit of a difference between the two.

I can see the portal spells in your spell list, so they should be there but you are specifically saying “New Portals” so it might help to understand what you mean by that.

What new portals are you expected to have that you don’t?

If you mean the Teleport: Valdrakken or Portal: Valdrakken. I don’t believe either of your Mage characters are of level to learn either spell yet.

The first time I was in Oribos, one of the minor quests was to create a portal to Stormwind. I was lost (in the game) so I didn’t pay any attention to it, figuring it would come up later. And, surprise, it did. Now it wants me to Create a Portal from (darn, I’ve forgotten exactly what they wanted) somewhere in D.I. and Stormwind. And, thus, this quest (my own) was born. I’ve got all the trained portals (and teleports); but, no matter how I study my Professions and the spellbook, I don’t have an icon that allows me to Create a new Portal.

Where are you seeing that request? If it is in a quest, what quest?

Gimme a second or two and I’ll find it. It’s in Waking Shores in “Rapid Fire Lands” >>> “Create a portal to Stormwind (optional)”. That’s what started this whole thing of creating a portal - why can’t I create a portal?

That quest generally doesn’t have that requirement. Most quests that list an optional requirement like that are because you are currently not in the zone for the quest and it’s directing you back to get to that zone (i.e. Stormwind to the Dragon Isles).

Rapid Fire Plans really only has two requirements:

Primal Flame Fragment (8)
Orb of Primal Flames

You might be overthinking it, sorry for the confusion.

Mages will see the “Create a portal to ???” when they are being directed to how to return back to a questing location.

Other classes will just be directed on how to find the closest portal or city to return to a questing location.

No, I don’t think so. What I’m trying to do is to find out WHY I’m missing a spell that keeps coming up and I don’t have any way to finish the quest. Because, yes, I’ve left out, or left for last, the whole “go here, do this” (optional) and the Quests themselves don’t . . . finish until I’ve done the optional portion. Now, how can I get this fixed? Do I have to take it to Blizzard?

I’m not sure what spell you believe you are missing, nor why you believe an optional step is at all required. It shouldn’t be.

If you went to the proper area for Rapid Fire Plans you should have either gathered the Orb of Primal Flames, or the fragments to combine into the Orb. Once done, the quest should be complete and you can return to Elementalist Taiyang to turn it in.

If you have completed the quest sans the optional part, and you aren’t able to turn it in, something else may be going on. We could maybe troubleshoot that.

I"m not exactly certain where you believe you would be “taking it”, Asamondias.

You can finish the quest by returning to the area where the quest occurs. The “Create a portal to Stormwind (optional)” is just that…optional. A non-mage would see a similar optional that would direct them to go back to that area. If a non-mage is in their garrison, it will tell them to fly to Ashran to take a portal back to Stormwind.

Which spell are you missing? If you are trying to crate a portal to Stormwind, do you not have the Portal spell that Leilleath showed above?

This is rather confusing as well. Which quests haven’t completed without doing an optional portion?

If you’re not near the quest objective, sometimes the quest tracker will try to help you on how to get there, by taking taxis/ports to places. If you’re on a mage it’ll like to suggest you use your teleports/portals to get there. You can ignore them or follow them, it’s mostly for people that don’t know/remember how to get somewhere.

You can even screw with the system if you’re a rebel and take a completely different route there.
“Well I got to Tanaris via the Uldum portal and flying instead of using the Caverns of Time portal, take that!”

It shouldn’t be impacting your ability to actually complete the quest though.

I thought that was just me… lol.

I f you mages out there are looking for your portals to Valdrakken, you must do the story line to get you there initially, then go see the Portal Trainer located in the Seat of the Aspects on the lower entry level. You must be a certain level before you can purchase the training required to get just the teleport and I believe you need to be 62 for teleport and 68 to get the portal.
