Mage tower status?

The last time (and only time ) I tried mage tower was right before launch, during prepatch. I Had pretty much the best Pve gear I could have. I attempted it for two or three days and gave up. I made a post here and people were saying that Players were nerved by about 30%

So now I ask, is mage tower finally back to normal or is it still over tuned? Specifically the shadow priest tower. Thanks

It’s generally harder to do at the start of an expansion, but from what I’ve heard, it’s already pretty doable by now.

Are you still scaled down when in mage tower, or did they scale it up to level cap?

I recently did it as Elemental and i got dumpstered. Milage may vary.

Not sure what spec you did but I managed to finish it as holy and shadow before expansion launch. It’s definitely overtuned, took me probably 5-8 more attempts than it did in content before Argus launched, and you need to get the crafted gear for it.

I will say the melee one, frost DK, DH etc, seems really improbable atm with the current scaling.

So if I run mythic plus and gear my guy out, You don’t think that would be enough to do it as a shadow priest? Like I would have to get all crafted pieces?

Mage Tower is like timewalking, it scales you down. The only advantage gear can give you really is trying to stack specific stats for their benefits, otherwise you just want to go in with trinkets that will help you with mechanics.

I did every challenge for the spell tome in DF, and I used fresh 70s for some of them.

Do we know if the timewalking changes that made having timewalking gear sets obsolete impacted Mage Tower as well?

Ilvl is meaningless. I’d see what ilvl it scales you down to and go for gear around that range or higher with as many gem sockets as possible.

Since it scales down, your ilvl can be completely random BUT you want it to be at the scaled down max at least.

Unholy and feral feel awful due to the massive lack of haste from scaling.
At least unholy, I can make it a decent ways through. But feral… I’m always so starved, I can hardly make progress without getting overwhelmed by imps.

Where would I get gear at that level and with sockets? By running Legion raids? Would I have to buy sockets for that ilvl off of the auction house?

Sorry for all the questions, I’m just kind of out of touch with the game in general, especially the pve side

Yes and yes.

This should help with a lot of your questions.

Chromie time requires another person though. Only downside.

Thank you for the links!

The gear is all scaled down to the level of the tower so it doesnt matter, look up a guide theres a whole thing on wowhead about the best gear to farm for it if your having issues. At the end of the day tho its not about gear

Just buy or craft pandaland pvp gear and slap as many main stats gems into them as you can

Brute force the stuff down

Interesting. Why mop gear if legion was 2 xpacs later though?

Mop pvp gear comes with sockets on it already, and removes any RNG of farming stuff (plus usually really cheap)

All gear in the mage tower scales down to 120 ilvl.

Mythic Siege of Orgrimmar Gear is 127 ilvl.

Also the siege of orgrimmar gear has lots of sockets on it in addition to having the advantage of main stat on rings and necks.

If you get a full set of mythic siege of orgrimmar gear and gem it with your main stat gems, the mage tower will be so easy that it’s boring.

Scaled down to level 45. But you can still do it just fine with any gear from current expansion. No need for convulsions grinding time walking gear or pvp gear or any of that nonsense.

Prepatch was a mess because they were scaled around TWW power at X ilvl, meaning we were missing hero talents.

It’s slightly easier than DF was.

You can play well as archon and skip the whole final phase just with DPS with no consumables. Either hero talent build would be fine though.

You can just buy it off the AH though

I spent like 3-5k buying my priest gear enchants and gems and basically just went through it fairly easily considering I barely knew the class

I remember building a TW set for it in SL just to see what the difference was. I felt like I needed to shower afterwards, boss was at 30% after first burn. Basically skipped every meaningful mechanic.
