Mage Tower, Oh my

This is true also

Sure, but saying “singie digits aren’t make or break” is just not true. A lot of these fights when you’re progging them come down to the wire, and having 8% more DPS for instance might completely trivialize the difficulty compared to having to optimize every single GCD.

If you’re making sub 10% runs, its very very very likely there is some rotational or positional thing you can do to get that damage.

gear helps, but the point being made is it doesn’t matter if you don’t learn what to do.

I’m a casual… had all plate ones done first week.

Shadowlands gear scales correctly. It just doesn’t provide any additional bonuses beyond the stat budgets for being for being item level 50, due to the fact that certain gear slots can never proc gem slots and certain gear slots cannot be enhanced with old world enchants and inscriptions.

Again, Shadowlands gear scales correctly, and even the Shadowlands enchants are scaled down.

Old world gear and enchants can be used to optimize performance on certain slots, but the marginal bonuses should not be a requirement just to have a reasonable power level for the challenges.

People who go the extra mile and work hard on their timewalking sets should be rewarded with the bonus, rather than everyone needing to research and farm old world sets as a baseline requirement.

But game devs overtuned some of the challenges because they knew that hardcore players would have all the “bonuses”.

Update. First, let me say thank you to all the replies. Community is good. I didn’t expect this thread to be noticed at all. Special thanks to you positive folks giving tips and encouragement.

So, I took a break from the Aff Lock challenge after throwing in maybe another 20ish tries. I usually die not long after Karam goes down.

I took a week to level my hunter, which is something I do to unwind, because, well…it’s a hunter isn’t it. In legion I beat the three hunter challenges too with Prydaz and the healing legs) and luckily I still had some of my macros kicking around. So after being 60 for about a day, I was like, what the hell, let’s see how it compares.

10 tries and I got it. LOL. I’m really not a great player anymore, so the dream is still alive I guess. But the two challenges and the two toolkits are night and day. Not really sure how I’d review it all. Not that my opinion matters anyway. Spose I’ll give destruction a try…or just switch mains…or uninstall, shrug.

Anyway, thanks again everyone. Be safe. Be kind. Keep hope alive.

Cheers

Tbf the Afflock challenge which was already a pain was almost exclusively done with Sacrolash or the Infernal glitch back in the day if my recollection is correct.
Today Afflock has neither of those tools (since SL Sacrolash is disabled), making it a lot more difficult.

Personally I haven’t given much thought to them this time around, the whole restrictions on borrowed power etc means you are doing the challenge with half of your toolkit, despite the fact that when we did them we had artifact powers and legendaries back in the day.
There has clearly been no attempt to realistically balance the new modes at all.

They are fine, the problem is that you’re unable to use the Legion Legendary effects and they didn’t do anything to compensate, so unless you have like a ping of 10ms you’re pretty much feeling it’s absolutely overtuned.
