Mage Tower Is Not Fair At All

I’ve attempted this so many times, at least 20-30+. Almost every time it is from the Nether Horrors. I try to get them close together then immediately pop Incap, but for some reason I don’t do enough damage or something to kill them fast, so they start using that ability again. Plenty of times as well I’ll be close to max health, max stack of bad stuff at 4 or 5, and I’ll immediately die in 1-2 hits from just one single Nether Horror. Sometimes they rush me, other times they b-line straight to Velen and kill him instantly, before I can even react to do anything. How am I even supposed to stop this? I can’t group them up on me or I’ll die immediately. And I guess Velen is fragile to adds as well, what a great Draenai leader he is. Another fun part about this, is that for a number of attempts, not a single gold orb spawned. I’ve had a couple times where I beat the first pack or two of Horrors, yet never had a gold orb spawn. The infernals are just another story by themselves, but I can usually handle them. Until one is stuck at 1 health, constantly chases me but doesn’t die. then a second one spawns.

I’ve watched countless videos, read many guides, tried different gear, attempted every possible talent setup people have shown, and nothing works. It’s really ruins my morale to do this when I see YouTuber’s burning through the fight like it’s nothing at all, not a care in the world. Hell, I can’t even get Variss below 70% health because my DPS is for some reason so low, even though it will always scale down, so how am I even supposed to fix that? I haven’t even gotten to phase 2 because of the Horrors 90% of the time, others were because of the Infernals not dying for some reason, unless there is a mechanic I’m missing to actually be able to kill them.

The closest I got to making any progress was getting him very close to 70%, but there were two infernals stuck at 1% attacking me and would not die at all, which made Variss spawn YET ANOTHER infernal AND a set of Nether Horrors as icing on the cake.

I’m all for a challenge, I have no problem with that. I like games that are hard and make me think (Souls-Like games, etc). But this is seriously something else that goes beyond that. If the Horrors were not part of this at all, or if they STAYED STATIONARY after casting that ability, instead of having four lethal auras chasing me; I’d even be fine with that. I don’t really have much issues with the other mechanics. Some things definitely feel RNG though, which makes this already tedious, unfair instance even worse. Sometimes Horrors will spawn after a couple seconds, sometimes after 30-60 seconds. Sometimes Variss will use Drain Life around the “normal” time he uses it, sometimes he uses it immediately when the battle starts, THEN uses it right after a second time and my interrupt is on CD. Makes me wonder if P2 is any better or not, considering the above problems, never got that far.

It also just ruins my motivation seeing so many people saying “git gud” or “this was so easy lol”. That’s great YOU completed it, but if you look in the comments of videos, replies on guides, many forum posts, hundreds, maybe thousands of people can’t complete it.

To conclude this I don’t ask for a cheese fest where we just run in and finish in a matter of seconds like legacy content runs. But they really need to tone down the health/dps of enemies in this. LOTS of people have issues with this. So it is simply more than just a “git gud” situation.

I wasn’t there a whole lot for Legion so I couldn’t snag that Bear form then, but here I am attempting this dumpster fire for it. I think they should allow us to obtain the other bear forms from Legion again, but you know, why do that.

If anyone has advice, I’d be more than happy to take it and try again with new information. Any useless, toxic replies will just be ignored. I’d like actual help here, or tell me your experience with it.

Try doing it a hundred times like back in Legion and having to figure it out without the help of Youtube. Its a tough fight with many moving parts but eventually, you’ll figure out how YOU can adapt and overcome. Being completely demoralized after 30 attempts? Nope, go crit the nether horrors with a wall of text and keep trying.

If horrors are giving you trouble, go get the seed trinket from the first boss of EN raid. It practically removes them from the encounter.

I’m not sure what you mean by “not fair at all.” It’s difficult, but that doesn’t make it unfair.

The absolute wall of text doesn’t help.

Where specifically are you messing up, helps a lot with the text help that can be given.

A YouTube video would probably help so much more than a text answer.

Mainly the Nether Horrors that kill me or Velen in 1-2 hits. And the Infernals that won’t die

This fight is a shell of its former self. I’ve heard people beating it in like 2-3 tries. 30 tries is not even a lot either.

This, seed pod solo every 2nd set of adds. The other 50% is up to you.

What may help is that Druid has the unique advantage where they can just use their Balance abilities from outside the void zone and only go in for interrupts. The majority of your damage is going to come from Moonfire anyway so this works a lot better than you’d think. It means you never have to go above 1 or 2 stacks which makes surviving easier.

This seems related to the horror adds not dying fast enough. Without watching you play I wouldn’t be able to tell you what’s going wrong. If you’re constantly seeing 2 infernals but never getting Variss down to 70% health then your damage is significantly below where I’d expect it to be. But honestly this is likely a rotational issue, which I have limited ability to help you with without logs or a video or something.

My homies kept begging me to do pre-pre-nerf Bear tower for them. I refused. Several weeks later they both got banned for a month for account sharing. Dodged a bullet there.

That’s it? Took me like 80 attempts to get it on my druid back in Legion. Mythic Jailer (…and Anduin…and Sylvanas) took my guild a couple hundred. Stuff’s supposed to be hard.

I don’t really have any advice other than what you’ve no-doubt seen in how-to videos. Incap roar should be up for every wave of those adds, and you just thrash them down while waiting for your HP debuff stacks to fall off.

I know it’s frustrating. I was close to giving up plenty of times both in Legion and on a couple classes when it was re-released last xpac. But if you want it, you have to just put in the work to get it.

There are ways to avoid that bud, your friend did it incorrectly

Yeah, it’s called “doing it yourself.”

Let’s not encourage people to break ToS and risk their account getting banned regardless of how confident we are that we can get away with it.

Going back on topic, if damage is an issue for the OP could we talk talents/consumables? I would assume that the OP’s current talent build that we can see in the armory is what they’re running with but are they also running good consumables for the Mage Tower?

I will never forget doing the old mage tower on my druid. A part of me was so darn happy to have finished it and the other part of me was like thank God it’s over with I can quit now. The frustration, over and over and over until I finally got it.

bud, Have you even completed it? lol

Yes. Back in Legion I completed all 36 Mage Towers and in the current iteration I finished both Feral and Guardian. Schedule permitting I’ll get to the other two Druid specs at some point.

Original MT Kruul, who dropped the Flail, took me about 120 attempts.

I needed the bathroom but said meh one more try, and got it easily.

I jumped up and did a happy dance!

20-30 you say? Rookie numbers dude.

Good luck.

The biggest things that helped me were perfecting the first phase to enter the last with as many orbs up as possible, which took a long time. And the EN seed pod trinket. Took around 130 tries for me and the progress was weird. I would get into the last phase pretty regularly and then start struggling again when I tried to trim more fat/save more cds in the first phase.

I think I did the opener in boomkin form, I used drums in the last phase too I think although I did some progress attempts popping drums in the opener.

Good luck!

If you needed the bathroom that badly I question what kind of dance this really was…
