Mage Tower Is Not Fair At All

Interrupt the nethers right at the end of their cast. This is critical. You can aggro them away from Velen with DPS and drag them over to the boss. I like to Convoke them from Boomkin.

Even though this is a tank challenge you will spend a lot of time in Moonkin form for ranged attacks. In legion, we had a legendary called Luffa that gave us the range to reach the boss inside the circle. Now we can just use Moonkin.

Huge dam if you pop a fire potion right before entering the instance since it lasts 60 seconds, giving you about 30 seconds of DPS with it for free. Then pop again later such as Phase 2 or whenever desired. It’s called “Potion of Unbridled Fury”.

Get the Deadly Boss Mods addon called “Challenges” which gives timers and warnings for everything in Mage Tower.

Optionally, make a quality of life macro to target the eye such as /tar tormenting (or whatever name).

For trinkets I used the “Ravaged Seed Pod” and “Swarming PlagueHive” which are great when doing TimeWalking dungeons as Feral too!

Oh it was close, but thankfully the turtle made it to the water.

I have a question about the mage tower. If I managed to do it on this character, would my druid have the bear form? Or are these by character?

No. Youd have the paladin set. To receive the felbear form youd have to do it on a guardian druid.

By class I believe.

It’s meant to be a challenge. :dracthyr_love_animated:

No, each spec has its own challenge and each class its own set.

I knew the specs had their own challenge. I’d hoped I could keep trying on the tank I know best and get something nice for the one I don’t know as well. But that’s okay. I will figure it out.

You’re repeated use of the phrase “for some reason” means you need to develop a more detailed understanding of the encounter to find where/how you need to improve to beat it.

When servers come up, if you want me to talk you through it, I can get in discord and try to help you out.

There’s a big timewalking community that helps people farm chromie time gear for mage tower and timewalking events in general. You’d be surprised at how big of a power increase you can get from those old items when you socket them with main stat. The nice thing about that is you can just swap gems out when you do guardian / feral and then use int gems for balance / resto. A lot of it just comes down to rote memory. If that fails you, adding 6-9+ gems to your gear doesn’t hurt either

I remember when i got mine i used the ghost iron dragonling and seed(first boss of emerald nightmare) trinkets. I did it with the old talent system though.

That is not a lot of times for the tower. People wipe hundreds of times depending on the encounter. The point is to perfect your play and think outside the box. 100% you’re standing in 1 spot expecting to 1-shot the boss because you are horrible at your class because you think Dragonflight tanking is how you’re supposed to tank lmao

I’m all for a challenge, I have no problem with that. I like games that are hard and make me think

This might not be as true as you think it is.

There’s nothing WRONG with that - lots of people don’t ACTUALLY like a challenging experience in their video games, they like a power fantasy or the illusion of challenge and that’s cool. It’s a game - we play for fun.

That being said, the Guardian challenge really shouldn’t be giving you THAT many problems. It’s been effectively nerfed extremely heavily since Shadowlands due to how much damage Bear as been given in their base toolkit and especially with Moonfire. But I can understand how it might feel a bit overwhelming if you’re coming into it from just world content or regular dungeons etc.

The thing is the Mage Tower challenges is that they are essentially a dance. They are HIGHLY scripted, and once you learn how they behave you’ll find you can do them forever. There’s a few things that you can do to make things easier on yourself though.

As people said, grab a Ravaged Seed Pod trinket from Emerald Nightmare. It’s easy to get, and any difficulty will work as long as it’s over Item Level 120 (so one you have in your bank from Legion won’t work, since that’ll be Item Level 50) - Also make sure that all your gear has enchants, gems etc. Easy to overlook but makes a big difference when you’re scaled down and need all the DPS you can get.

Try to let the adds get to the end of their cast (or at least halfway through if you have iffy internet) before using your incap. The VERY BEST way to do it is to actually let them JUST start casting. This is dangerous and you’ll want to make sure you’re not right on top of Velen when it happens, but it’ll prevent them from casting again for the longest possible time if I recall correctly (sorry, it’s been a while - I did most of the challenges recently but not Krull or Twins)

Another thing you can do is get the best consumables - getting the Scroll of Battle-Shout and Scroll of Fortitude will help, Boralus Blood Sausage in a great main stat food and Potion of Unbridled Fury is a really strong DPS potion. Obviously use Drums too, but save those for the second phase.

Get good at using Feral Charge quickly if you get distracted and knocked off by an eye - you can also quickly swap to Moonkin and use Feral Charge to yeet yourself back to the platform - this saved me on my kill because I lost concentration.

Still, I’d suggest you leave your ego at the door when it comes to the Mage Tower. It definitely shows you that you’re not as good as you think you are (unless you walk in and bowl it first try~) and it’s basically the only form of solo, truly challenging content that we have in the game. Getting my Book mount a few weeks ago was one of the biggest accomplishments I’ve ever achieved in this game and it felt great because I really felt like I earned it. You couldn’t just walk in and get it first time with good RNG like you can with lots of other mounts. These challenges are tough, but fair. None of them are impossible, and in fact all of them are doable on Level 60 Trial characters missing 10 talents, so a properly geared Level 70 with enchants and consumables definitely has the tools to succeed. The only barrier is your own ability

Best of luck, I’m sure you’ll get it! I know people who have done well over 100 attempts to get their Felbear but they’ve said it was all worth it. And honestly, the destination barely (pun?) matters - it’s all in the journey. Enjoy.

And then realized the serious mistake of jumping and doing the happy dance when ballpointing.

To quote myself from an older thread here…

And for what it’s worth it took me about 100 tries in SL.

Iv not done it with the newest release, I did guardian in legion and the timewalking one both took somewhere between thirty and forty tries to get down. IMO the second version was way harder, sense we lacked the legion artifacts that made a BIG difference, iv heard its much easier now but gear (Notably trinkets , enchants and consuambles) make a big difference, however they are only a edge - experience and knowledge will be the real game changers.

Oh and motivation, really sucks getting yeeted into space on a good attempt because you got too close to a infernal during its smash cooldown. (Btw you can bait them into using that by running into range then away with the intent to cause them to cast it on demand , rather than waiting for them to catch up.) Check the druid forums for more in depth details, tips and gear /consumable suggestions in old(ish) mage tower threads.

100% this. I have seen people just run in there. No pots, no drums no nothing and expect to clear it. I got my book and I’m glad I never have to go back. That doesn’t mean I didn’t wipe 50+ times.

Its specifically designed around timing. Being a second off will get you killed. You may need to also buy some old school gear off the AH with specific stats. That’s what I did. Got my book the first week or two thew MT returned. Spent a ton of gold on old school gear, pots, drums and enchants. I then followed some you tube videos. Each of the 8/8 challenges for the book took right around or over 50 attempts. With the healer challenge being the hardest. I did it on a Holy Pally I literally died right when the boss did. I thought it was a wipe. Nope . He died a microsecond sooner. That’s how close some of your attempts may be.

In the end Im happy to have the Book!

We need more people like you!

TLDR- Don’t read if you have already done “Thwarting the Twins” mage tower.

I’m trying to do the raest/karem one and it just makes me so nervous, especially when Karem comes back from his bubble and I have adds to deal with and hand from beyond, I always choke and best I can do it interrupt and kill 1st hand and 2nd hand always gets me, so recently I decided to forget everything I learned about the encounter from youtube and investigate everything on my own.

The encounter glitches for no reason on rare occasion and Raest and Karem disappear leaving me all alone so I searched around and discovered a hidden stairway and platform, and when you stand on it, adds don’t chase you. https:// imgur .com/ZnOUokD (remove both spaces)

Problem is, this is only handy when Karem is in his bubble because if not, he instantly ports you to right in front of him and you know how that will turn out so that may not help, but…

This one will be hard to believe so try for yourself: That same building in pic has large green pool in front of it, get Karem to enter his bubble phase behind that building AND keep him there so he’s there when he is supposed to cast hand and guess what… he wont cast it and he can’t recast right away so that buys some time. People have commented that typhoon prevented hand sometimes but I think it was WHERE they cast typhoon which is why it only worked occasionally, 3 times I have been able to avoid hand completely in that stage by kiting Karem around that building and avoiding his 2nd cast as well (I get him to next stage before he has time for 3rd one) But its not easy with adds and I’m supposed to be DPSing Raest too?

If you think I’m trolling you will love the next thing I discovered, the spell the hand casts has a distance limit, but its FAR, to avoid getting damaged you gotta look and see where hand is, run to opposite side of map and be exactly on opposite side with Raest between you and hand, and in the 3/4 of a second you have left to find a place to stand, look for where the ground goes out a little further in some spots and comes to a point, I have also gotten it to work while running on very tippy tip of map as long as hand is on other side, if it works, you take 0 dmg and hand begins to cast it again right away (sigh)

Just had idea… I will just jump off map to avoid hand cast, spin around and wild charge back up, sounds good on paper anyhow.

Anyhow, If “Thwarting the Twins” has a secret or 2, the others might have some as well.

I hope to get it done one of these days.
