Mage Tower Availability Extended and Tuning Adjustments

Yea same with spriest. The only way you survive is by popping vamp embrace and just nuking all your CDs on him, but it simply isn’t enough damage to burn him and the shadowbolts eventually overwhelm you

Yeah, I’ve been saying since before trying the new Mage tower it should last until 9.2. Having played it, I definitely think it needs to be extended.

Why not just make it like was on PTR instead of drip feed us “nerfs”?
Incompetence at it’s worst.

Is it the end goal? How many people earned the rewards from the original mage tower?

I can tell you for sure it was no where near this difficult to get in Legion. This is pure insanity level. Bashing my head against the guardian druid one for 2 days now.

I actually despise this development team for putting this in the game in this state.

isn’t that good? i thought people wanted old content to be relevant again. wish granted.

The Twins fights gave me a massive headache (which can happen when your blood pressure spikes) so I decided “You know, this ain’t fun.” So I logged off and went and played another game the rest of the night. To me there’s a difference between a challenge (ie, running Dark Souls at soul level 1) and slamming your head against a brick wall playing untested content.

Yea all that stress can lead to health problems which is why you should take regular breaks from mage tower lol. With the aging wow demographic I wouldn’t be suprised it triggers something in someone. Especially high blood pressure!

100% agree. This is unhealthy.

lol Are you serious?

I read one of them was “changed the casting of the spell from 3s to 2s.”

WOW! Yeah man, when I think “significant changes”, ONE SECOND is what comes to mind.

It seems obvious to me that what they’re going to do is nerf the Mage Tower 0.5% a month … until 60% of players have at least once class completed.

Remember, THEY ACTUALLY HAVE all the real data. THEY KNOW how many people are trying, how many times, and WHAT THE SUCCESS RATE IS.

So when can you say “most people” have completed the Mage Tower? 60%, certainly.

So you just keep nerfing it until 60% have it. Then you can say “it’s tuned.”

Never mind that it takes 14 months. Who cares?! NOT THESE STUPID PLAYERS!!! hahahaahahahaha +KOTICK GRIN+

Because their employees were walking out

I had completely forgot about his massive health pool. I remember back during Legion, the only way the vast majority of Shadow Priests were able to beat this encounter was to use Surrender to Madness(which lasted until your insanity hit 0, then you died) when Karem was low to get the stacks building and then full out burst Raest with drums/pots during that first window. But with the changes to both Void Form and Surrender to Madness, this no longer works.

Otherwise, due to having low mobility and no instant casts outside of Shadow Word Pain/Shadow Word Death, you just couldn’t keep up with hands and Raest, while kiting, while soaking. Doubly so since Shadows interrupt is only up for every other hand.

Now for Shadow to deal with adds in any meaningful way, you have to talent into Searing Nightmare but due to all the movement its quite difficult to get enough sanity to use SN multiple times(and at least for me, it seems like it takes about 3-4 hits of SN to kill the adds). Ideally you want to kite so the adds go through Raest so the SN hits him too, but you still lose a substantial amount of DPS due to not throwing DP’s and stuff on him simply because you essentially have to SN nonstop just to keep up with the adds. God forbid when you have to start dealing with the runes and hands, and Karem chasing you again, lol.

Though it goes back to what I said earlier, a lot of the issues could be resolved if they simply reduced the health, especially if they reverted back to the PTR levels. The mechanics still matter and it wouldn’t completely trivialize the fight but it would make it a lot more reasonable and tuned to how it should be for timewalking content, of which said content SHOULD be tuned to between Tomb and Antorus levels of difficulty since the original was tuned around Tomb, with the artifact and legendaries. Without any borrowed power, it should be tuned easier than what the original was balanced around.

Even with the limited changes Blizzard has made, they are still more inline with Nighthold levels of difficulty(with some still exceeding that). Along with a massively inflated health pool thrown on top.

What’s stopping you from just leaving it up indefinitely? Or at least just having it available for every timewalking?

When in Legion? 7.2 and 7.3 they were made pretty trivial through nerfs, significantly better gear and the overcharged artifact weapon.

I would be careful here. For once old content/professions are actually relevant.

If anything I would lean into it further and make it less kludgy to acquire TW gear for a max-level toon.

Who is hurt by this? The “integrity” of the challenge? By that logic why are raiders allowed to do split runs, or trade gear in the early weeks, or buy optimized boe loot?

You inadvertently stumbled onto a system where now even solo players can optimize themselves for a solo “challenge”. Lean into it. Make it easier to acquire TW chromie time gear.

Sure if you have super wonky/op items like the trinket, then fix those, but stuff like sockets and gems I don’t think are fundamentally altering anything. It is no different than grinding out Korthia for sockets on your max level gear, nor spamming Plaguefall to obtain the trinket, in order to optimize for current content.

I’m glad that they’re extending the time for the Mage Tower but this is an extremely short term solution that doesn’t solve the overall problem. As soon as Jan 3rd comes we’ll be right back in the same spot we are now with the tower being far too infrequent.

Anyone who doesn’t play the game right now will only have a week for the Mage Tower whenever it’s up instead of four weeks. This isn’t a long term solution.

Yes, you did easy mode after over gearing it and taking away the challenge. Good job. Welcome to the version before that where it was actually a challenege.

It’s no different than anyone who didn’t play in Legion. They didn’t play, they didn’t get the chance at the Mage Tower. At least now it’s back every 4 months, indefinitely.

I feel you my friend, truly. In a similar boat.
