Well, I still think it’s overtuned.
With that being said, I rather make positive posts that may actually help people.
Experiences may vary:

Legion Legendaries. You gotta use 'em. Sure they don’t have the effects, but they are ilvl 50 70 and for some reason DO NOT scale down to 50. So far it’s the only weapons Ive seen that give you 20 ilvl free. EDIT: I was having a UI error. They are still incredibly good IMO. And on my Fury Warrior the difference is SIGNIFICANT.
-
Yes, it IS about gear. Like I mentioned, weapons alone, my DPS went up +125-140.
-
Although this was advertised as “you can make a TW set if you want”, it’s actually a “You are pretty much setting yourself to fail A LOT if you don’t.”
-
Prydaz Leggo neck for me seems to also be better than any other neck. I do a lot of gear swapping inside the encounter while Agatha is doing her speech to see how the stats are changing and what gear is re-adjusting.
-
SLOW DOWN. ALL THE WAY DOWN. This is a marathon, not a race. When I basically forgot about Agatha completely save for her shield, suddenly it was a little better to handl the imps.

Yeah… I’m not gonna deny it, do yourself a favor and go download the DBM package for the challenges. IT DOES HELP A HELL OF A LOT.
I think I’m getting my Fury set tonight, already got her solid to phase two and just had to switch a talent to get some more control.
STILL, I continue to believe they are overtuned. That’s just a fact. But yeah, we are getting there. I don’t know how non-TW gear is going to be able to do it honestly. My SL gear felt like greys. Zero ramp up and power to bring the adds down. Might just be me.
Good luck out there

What makes up a TW set? Just gear with lots of sockets or something else?
Mainly yes. Socket spaces, and as close to ilvl 50 as possible.
I tried TBC dungeon set, has a ton of sockets but ilvl 35 just wasn’t enough stats IMO.
I’ve also tried Ashkramas and HoA just for stats, but it’s better if you get pieces with sockets.
Also Old enchants give power in certain pieces you can’t enchant in SL
I’ve noticed this too watching videos. People are doing way more damage than I am doing. I’m still working on the guardian druid with little to no progress lol. I’ve probably spent 4-5 hours on it. Just tired of throwing countless of gold down the drain.
I was also using the Hellscream heirlooms cause they give two sockets. (This is if you have them by chance) They scale to ilvl 50 if you got ‘‘em upgraded.
Sadly I don’t. I didn’t play SoO
Nope, everything scales down to 50 :

So what you’re saying is…the scaling is out of whack and the only way to bring it into line with how it was in legion is to create a TW cheese set like what people do to demolish regular tw dungeons (ever wonder how that person is doing double everyone else’s DPS? That’s how)?

How would something like this go for a paladin? I scaled it to level 48 using a Relic, and it seems like a nice piece with its 2 gem slots and stats.
A lot of what makes TW cheese sets is disabled in Mage Tower. 2-3 socket gear is much lower ilvl than the 50 baseline Mage Tower scales you at.
That leaves very little you can do. Pretty much get a Legion Neck for Mark of the Satyr, Garrosh Heirloom weapons for 2 free sockets, and you can simply use SL gear in pretty much every other slot with Korthia sockets.
These are just behind the chromie gear:
-
Chromie Time Gear Set
-
-
Siege of Orgrimmar Gear
-
Shadowlands Gear

True, but based on what the OP is reporting, it seems a certain amount of cheese is still allowed in the MT. Cheese that seems to make a critical amount of difference.
Yeah, a real challenge would have had a template gear set.

Wow, I looked that up, the Chromie Time system is crazy. I guess guild members could help each other out doing it but it would be quite time consuming.
I’ve disproven some of the OP’s assertions already.
One thing I just noticed though - prydaz has crit/haste/mastery, same as HoA, but it also has a socket, and if memory serves, it could also be enchanted with the legion neck enchants…man, I gotta go rifle through my void storage now
Weird I am not seeing this in comparing my weapons. Artifact, Heirloom, Standard weapons they all have just about the same item level and damage numbers stats vary just slightly and not to mention sockets.
What weapons are you talking about that give 20 ilvl?
The SoO sets were big time during the original Korrak event, when players had 2-3 sockets per item and slotted them with the highest primary gem available.
Assuming you put together a set with sockets on all your gear, that’s a huge chunk of primary stat to help with dmg.
There’s also the Souldrinker weapon from Dragon Soul with high leech. Not sure if it would be as cheese in MT like it was in Korrak, but it was possible to pretty much not die if you were dual wielding it with stamina socketed.
Yep, seems like I was just having a UI error with regards to the weapons. They do come down to 50.
I still stand by, that they provide me more DPS during the fight than SL weapons. Perhaps because of the stats. I dunno. Sorry about that .
