Mage or warlock, who has the bigger number?

Hello, ive decided i want to play one of these two classes for cataclysm, i want to know which one has the bigger crit number though, thats the class i want to play. My class fantasy is launching a nuclear spell at my enemies and seeing big number. all that i know is that pyroblast hits hard, arcane blast hits hard, chaosbolt hits hard, and i think soul fire hits hard? i want to play the one that hits the hardest please

Googled around a little.
From the looks of it, both Lock and Mage are fairly close to each other.

Play what you like better.
Fun > rest.

Mage probably. Instant pyroblast go brrrrrrrr and it’s a lot easier to play.

Mage better on burst. Locks can do better sustained if they can keep it up with minor bursts here and there. Destro locks can be more bursty, Aff can be better at staying alive, but will do mainly dot play with sustained dps throughout not much burst. In a very long fight with multiple targets, then yes a good affi dong dot play can truly top charts over a period of time. The mage will do better at having massive burst and not as good sustained. Frost can have better sustained.

So if you want to know who shows up best at the end of a very long fight, go off that. But if you want to do best at doing massive burst. Demo locks are mainly best for self play while questing compared to the other specs. They rarely top burst charts and their dot play is not near s good as aff, their burst not near to destro.

Mage is better for what you are looking for imo. And as frost doesnt do so well in PvE as compared to the others, it does okay. Frost PvP, also can use Arc PvP. Fire super bursty PvE. Too squishy Wrath PvP.

Going into cata i’d probably say mage. I was cooking on my aff lock earlier in wrath and it felt amazing but I’m pretty sure we’re entering a period of mage superiority

It was called Casterclsym for a reason. But who knows if Blizz will release it this time around same way they did last time.

Checking WCL, Mage and Demonology are extremely close in the “large number” department. Top ranking Mage’s average Pyroblast was 19.4k and top ranking Warlock’s average Soul Fire was 21.5k.
