Yep read the title, don’t play this dumpster fire class. Blizzard completely ruined it over the last few expansions. The forums are filled with so many angry neckbeards its sad - myself included.
The game has moved to non stationary build - how can we sit there for 3 seconds to try and get a core ability off for a short burst, - move and not be p*ssed off about dps loss. Don’t get me started on RoP, just remove it and tie it in to our spec CD. Run some numbers - you know maths, and reduce the CD.
You want to keep peaks and valleys? then it has to be changed. Because it’s not a realistic build in it’s current definition.
AOE on my paladin DESTROYS my mage in equal gear and ilvl and is 100 times easier to play. I like to have fun and the mage class is NOT what it used to be. I’m too old to be sweaty - might just go faceroll on hunter (who has lust, instants, next to no dps loss on movement).
I would not say Mages are in a good spot. Sure there have been some buffs to Fire and Frost recently. Fire performs well on higher keys when everything doesn’t die in 10 seconds and the tank is able to pull large groups.
I don’t do PvP, battle pets and only do World content when I have to or if I think it’s necessary. I rather enjoy the profession system well Tailoring is okay I feel like Enchanting got the shaft in terms of getting knowledge points. I primarily Raid and do Mythic +.
Mythic + is fun and I enjoy it when I can get into one. Shadowlands I didn’t have any issues getting into an Mythic +. ugh making me praise Shadowlands now I feel dirty. I have a 1963 Rating and it’s a chore just to get into a 14 or higher in Group Finder.
Want to know what makes players re-evaluate why they should play this game keep paying there sub? When they don’t get to play it.
When I have to spend 40 minutes trying to get into a Mythic + 14 or higher and constantly be declined. I just feel exhausted with WoW and log out. Not the good kind of exhausted, just the exasperation of being unable to play the game and questioning why I even bother. Is this a good time investment? Rather than grinding Keys I’m grinding Declines or just ignores to eventually get an Invite to an M+.
Mages are not in a good spot in Mythic + they’re other classes that they can take that do more dps and more/equal the same level of utility.
Rune of Power is an additional class-specific affix. “Every 45 seconds hardcast for 1.5 seconds, and then move no further than 8 yards from your position. Failure to do so results in a dps loss vs all other classes”. The fact that they had to tie it to instantly drop with other dps cooldowns demonstrates what a redundant failure of an ability it is and yet this class is so neglected that it’s persisted for years…
And they had to put a cast time on it and add Surge with a cast time on it and then put NT on the gcd. Why can’t we just have the old fashion Arcane Power back and add a 20% haste to it? Does that really seem that unreasonable? TBC Arcane Mage was perfect and now they have made it a mess. Yes I will admit the burst is very good when everything goes perfect but when not, it’s awful and not fun to play either way. NT is a joke outside of Magi and Arcane Explosion needs a big damage buff.
To be fair op is half correct, it does force us to work for it but isn’t that part of the fun?
Personally I don’t want to stand still and press 2 buttons all day, thats boring as all h***.
Edit I found the issue:
I shave every other day is the problem apparently.
And this is the kicker.
Mages aren’t supposed ot stand still, we draw a lot of threat and wear cloth.
3 Seconds can be a long stretch to be standing there scratching your butt.
In a vacuum mage does pretty good damage. The problem is that mage is very reliant on your tank to pull when you have cds up and on the rest of the group as well to stay alive so you don’t lose momentum. Frost mage dying with icy veins or fire dying and losing skb you lose all momentum and are now doing no damage for the next minute. I’m sure I’d get much more out of my mage if I was in a coordinated group but I have no friends so…
In a vacuum? I am starting to think fire mage just measures how fast you down a boss because so much is upfront damage. So when the boss melts in 30 seconds you’re the top player but when the fight drags on for 8 minutes your overall damage is negligible.
Yeah it really feels like SKB/IV design can lead to some perverse incentives in a non coordinated group, eg queuing up a pyro on the next pack before the tank has aggro or casting pyro instead of kicking something for fear of losing SKB. The alternative is doing basically zero damage on that pack. Extremely unforgiving and you can’t really win either way.
No way. when my MM can RF for almost the equivalent dmg of my Fire mage GP while on the move and have multiple instant follow ups. I have mained a mage for the last few years, fire mostly. Put a dunce cap on ROP.
Give Rune of Power to warlocks instead. Color it fel-green, rename it Ritual of Power, and let them use all their leech/fel armor/defensive tools to mitigate mechanics while they turret. It’d fit their class better design-wise.
