Mage is in a BAD spot in PvP for SoD

Yet even more folks calling for mage buffs…

How much engagement does this post need before we get an acknowledgement?

I’m gonna go out on a limb here and say that our wanted buffs will never happen until they nerf our ability to heal with Chrono while we have a dps specc/runes. Getting dps buffs and still have self heal doesn’t work I think. Either Chrono must be moved to a slot where we would never use it as dps, or it has to be linked to other healing runes for it to function, otherwise we will never get buffs I think. Mage in 1v1 is doing very good, it’s just the sh9t show in Wpvp and BG’s that renders us almost useless.

I’d be totally fine with them making CSP linked with other healing runes to heal the way it currently does.

Still not an excuse IMO considering the healing nerf that is currently part of the blanket nerfs. It’s still casted, and easily interrupted.

Not only that, but when mages take it they are no longer taking Brain Freeze which already means far less damage which we cannot currently spare any less.

An illusion? What are you hiding??

Keep up the protest until we get mirror images which cast chronostatic preservation, mass regen, and portals to the tainted scar (on which enemies can click).

I too, was waiting for 5/5 zg, but it’s not that good. Ice lance damage is bad. Spellfrost bolt is critting for 1800ish in pvp with 5/5 zg, so decent damage, but its only 30 yard range.

Right now, the best spec is 41 yard living bomb, ice block, chrono heal, and spam arcane barrage. just reroll boomkin

Thats sad news… I was looking forward to the ZG set on my mage. =(

I would actually go frostbolt with frost talent to give it 6 more yards range.
But that’s something that amazes me, blizz not making Ice Lance and Spellfrost Bolt benefit from the longer frost reach.
I want to try with arcane barrage instead of ice lance for bigger shatter but it sucks to loose Frozen Orb.

Frostbolt does less damage as well. I’ve tried both.
Spellfrost bolt 30 yard, no pushback resist, no pushback resist for frosbolt. Hunter auto will do more damage than you can do in 5 seconds, so you really need to dot them and run, or dot them and get close in, spamming heals and barrage until they die.

Barrage hits harder than ice lance, has a 3 sec cd, and costs little mana. Arcane barrage is probably the best mage spell available. Arcane tree sucks so you can use barrage as any spec. Really you do 0/20/31 or 0/30/21 depending if you want 10% fire damage or ice barrier. Using full r13 gear tomorrow, choker of the firelord, mana igniting cord, (i have mqg but not worth using), cloak of the brood lord, t2 bracer, DMC Torment and pvp trinket bis trinkets. Really not much you can do but kite, dot, barrage in between your other instant spells, and kite+heal

This thread is an understatement. Mage is horrible in PvE as well. Look at Nef parses (higher percentile). Mage is literally the worst dps class. Only Elemental shaman is a little bit worse. So bring 1 Mage for Intellect and Water.

I dont know… mages are doing really damn good in PvE.

Mage seems fine enough in PvE. We don’t deserve to be the best at everything.

I am fine with a solid middle ground. Mage will always be viable in raid for some spec or another – and we’re mandatory for the Arcane Intellect buff.

I want our class to live up to the reputation of being the premier PvP caster, or at least be a glass cannon again.

Right now we’re just glass, but don’t have the cannon part added in on the end.

HELL EVEN IF they only buffed our casted damage and made it actually chunk people along with buffing Ice Barrier I would be fine with that

then we could sit in the back line, spam sheeps and pump fat damage out at range. Use the instant casts when people are up close and personal, CC, make space, and then nuke again with big casts.

If for no other reason, at least we can say we tried.

We want answers to this issue, or at least acknowledgement that there is an issue and they see it. If they acknowledge it and do nothing then we will know not to place our trust in them for Classic+.

Personally, I think the devs have done a great job with PvE in SoD. It has been very satisfying IME. I just feel like they’ve largely ignored half of the game which is PvP. Classic WoW is NOT a PvE only game. They both tie into one another and PvP (open world & BGs) is absolutely 1 of the 2 pillars this game is supposed to be about.

Small critique but I’d love to see Temporal Anomaly improved somehow. Maybe have it raid wide but apply a 5 second beacon or something?

They need inherent 25% damage reduction across the board as a start.

you seem to be mostly concerned about PvE runes in these PvP discussions, Wocket. I absolutely agree, but perhaps start a PvE thread where you would like to discuss Mage healer buffs

Well my point is I feel mages take too much damage, meaning when I go ranged I can drop one to 50% hp in one shot, melee one raptor strike… everything crits against mages… no other class does this happen against. So i feel like they are too squishy —
