Just if you’re curious, mage boosting is not effective in the same way in TBC, as of 2.0 blizzard hard nerfs AE putting damage caps on these abilities.
Essentially the mega maradon and ZG trash pulls are not a thing in TBC because the mage will OOM trying to kill them.
Pallys and to a lesser extent warriors will be the new boosters in TBC. Consecrate isn’t subject to AOE abilities + sporeggar shield has a thorns effect.
I forget the name, but it’s a shield you can buy from sporeggar faction in TBC will make warriors viable as boosters. It gives you a thorns effect so mobs kill themselves hitting it. Not as good as pallys though
It is not as much effective, still we would boost our alts in dungeons with a level 70 mage frost. I recall some friends doing the same dungeons (RFC, SFK, SM, ZF / MARA).
Protadins will be able to just slap on the Sporeggar shield, never take any real damage ever, and just run around while everything dies passively. It’ll be safer and probably just as fast, and with the ability to just soak up the hits without blinking will open up new methods of boosting in both current Vanilla content as well as TBC content.
True, that it will happen with the prots, but I don’t see it being anything like the crazy Mara and ZG pulls I have seen video of. Those are just pure insanity, I don’t think a prot pals will be so effective because their shields break on trash in raid because they block like crazy.
Where as the Vanilla mage effective takes no damage and almost needs no gear.
Eh just buy a few extra since it comes from an easy Rep vendor. The “crazy” will be how boring it looks for a Paladin to mass pull Mara the way you can see people pull the entire boat in Deadmines and AoE it down.
…when done properly. You mess it up and you fail HARD.
Prot paladins in TBC will be able to solo all of strat UD in a single pull with good gear. And lower geared paladins will simply need to break the instance into 2 or 3 pulls. They can do the same with large portions of LBRS.
Paladins will be just as good for boosting in TBC as mages are in vanilla imo.
Here’s a 13 year old video of a prot paladin soloing Strat UD. Admittedly it is the wrath pre-patch, but the concept is the same and the guy is wearing the dungeon blues set for tanking so he’s really undergeared. The concept is the same for the 2.4.3 patch. https://youtu.be/xLickKO0VHY
There’s other videos you can look up as well. Not to mention in Classic at L60 paladins can already do some really nutty things. Like this paladin soloing every single mob in gnomer in 1 pull. It’s ~300 mobs + multiple bosses. https://youtu.be/KhlSOWbl-dQ
Can’t wait for tbc!
