This type of refund is not something that has ever been done for any reason.

Blizzard has been known to make exceptions to general policy for super rare things - like crafting with time gated and limited mats, super rare drops, etc.

Usually that exception has a ton of behind the scenes decisions that go with it and can be granted once for the lifetime of a Battlenet account.

While it is unlikely that they can help the OP, it is best to let the Blues give the final “no” on this one.

There’s a blue post saying sparks are an exception to the crafting refund rule.
And since OP didn’t use the crafted item at all, and immediately opened a ticket, idk why they wouldnt do it.

GM’s/Blizz are pretty hands off when it comes to crafting gear etc.

Generally. The Spark of Ingenuity is a bit special though. If reported very soon after making the error, along with some other criteria, we may be able to help.

If you received the automatic reply, which it appears you have, submitting another ticket is the way to go… as you already have.
