Macro is life?

A confession: I’ve never used macros at wow or any other game in the world.

My question is: could I still play without it on classic and be a valuable member of the group / guild?

I’m kinda old, and I don’t want to learn something new. I’m playing classic casually after work and on weekends:
So does macro is a must? For all classes and especially warrior tank.

And I know I can search YouTube for guides and all, but to be honest I don’t even know what macro is or what it does!

Unless it’s super easy to learn and do and I’m making it sound complex in my head?

Macros make things much easier, especially for certain classes like warriors, and my class, hunter. You don’t even have to learn to write your own, just cut and paste ones that others have written. All that is required is learning to use Blizzard’s macro interface.

Edit: but you can play without them, of course.

You don’t need them for very casual play, but if you plan on doing a lot of end game dungeons and raids, it would help a lot.

Icyveins should have a list of useful macros for each class/spec under each guide.

I’m in your boat. I’ve never used a macro before. I guess I should learn sooner or later though…

Macros are simple programs - i.e. a list of instructions; in WoW’s case a single instruction which you can program to execute when certain conditions are met.

They aren’t very difficult but some effort is required. It’s mostly for convenience. I don’t believe there is anything you can do via macros that you can’t do manually.

Macros are a crutch

To answer your question : No, macros arnt needed, i have cleared every single dungeon and raid topping damage meters with no macros and had 0 issues

Personally i think anything that involves automation shouldn`t be allowed, it removes the skill factor of the game. But that is just me

Macros are very easy to use. You can literally google ‘macro for (x) wow classic’ and copy/paste the result into your macro and be good to go

Removing macros might well remove me from the game. I’m disabled. Is that what you want?

Plus, macros in this day and time have nothing to with “automation”. I can’t press one in-game macro on my hotbar and then walk away for ten minutes and make a sandwich while my character plays for me.

Sheesh, the ignorance on display here is astounding.

Macros are anything but a crutch, they remove annoyances from the game entirely.

Why would I want to have the auto-attack key bound when I can just /startattack on my main damaging abilities? Why would I want to deal with the clunkiness of shapeshifting as a druid when I can smooth every form out with 1-2 more lines in a macro?

Macros are creative ways to remove the ‘training weights’ on classes to allow them to perform at the highest level.

I love them! For example, a pet attack and return macro or a druid cancel form and cast a heal macro.

The only macros you “need” are not too hard. you can even have simple /say macros to tell the group vital info. or for Druid RP

  • /say Meow

Also so you can leave shapeshift quicker and start casting a healing touch

  • #showtooltip Healing Touch
    /cancelaura [stance:1] Bear Form; [stance:2] Aquatic Form; [stance:3] Cat Form; [stance:4] Travel Form;
    /cast Healing Touch

another is to use trinket slots without having to replace the item on your bar all the time
Trinket 1

  • #showtooltip 13
    /use 13

Trinket 2

  • #showtooltip 14
    /use 14

Macros are pretty easy to use, and for a tank some of them are VERY helpful. You don’t have to understand how to write them, just how to copy and paste them.

Automation and macros aren’t really the same thing though. There’s no extra skill in pressing your auto-attack button before using an ability over macroing both to the same button

Oh yeah? Try Druid. I want to see something be powershift without a macro… can’t be done. Mouse clicks don’t register fast enough.

Reroll mage bind every button to frost bolt top dps meters.

You click skills?

powershifting for cat dps. double click cat icon…

Thank you for showing that you know nothing. This is the most moronic thing I’ve ever seen. You blatantly confused macros with scripts…

Again, mouse clicks don’t register that quickly in the clients. Your second click will do nothing. Go try it!
