M+, 80%/20%; Not Playing Game / Playing Game

How would it make things worse for people filling vaults?

For 2 - I see a few ways it would make it much better:

  1. When you assemble a group of people that you want to play with, 1 mistake can happen. Someone has an off key - and the group disbands.
  • There’s no community building there, if the key didn’t deplete the odds that the group would run it back with the same people would be higher. Adding btags would probably be more common
  • I believe people would be a bit more lenient when taking players / also off meta might have more room to breathe
  • I think more folks would put their keys up into LFG as well, and wont have as much anxiety.

The need to vet groups due to rating inflation. Maybe to the point of looking up logs to see people are qualified.

But that’s irrelevant. Title is out of reach because organized groups can run it back 100 times in a week and time it.

1 mistake doesn’t nuke a key unless you’re pushing the extreme cutting edge content. The entire group making mistakes or not playing up to the required level is what causes a key to be untimed. If that’s the case, why would I run it back with the same people? I sure as heck wouldn’t.

No they wouldn’t. It would be the exact same. The objective for most players is to get in, time the key, get rewards, and go next. “Oh we don’t need a lust this run, let’s take a sub rogue because if it fails we can just try it again” is delusional.

1 mistake can definitely nuke a key, in extreme content (+15s) absolutely, in the heroic content (11s-12s) a bit less common but still can happen. Think about wiping in grim batol after the 2nd boss, that runback is atrocious. Less than 8s, 1 mistake moreso wont nuke your key.

Maybe the folks doing the lowest keys won’t rerun with the same people because the keys are so common to get. But if you have a +12 or above it definitely would happen. Those guys are gamers, and maybe they just weren’t looking when they got hit by the orb on the first boss of City. Doesn’t mean their trash. People generally execute much better on the 2nd attempt as well.

Definitely not delusional. Lots of folks complain that if you aren’t an Aug-Dk-Frostmage or Enhance you aren’t getting into keys.

Survival - outlaw - ret - fury warrior are incredibly viable classes in m+ (Look at squishvegan’s melee cleave group, insane!) More folks would experiment with different classes and comps if there was more flexibility. (I.E. Fire mage can do some insane dam, but why try out fire if there aren’t any keys)

Yea no one will take a rogue over lust (unless the key is really low) – my point was more about experimenting with the comp. (Enhance Frost-DK Aug vs Survival Outlaw Fury)

I don’t think it can be changed tho

Never been a fan of M+, even when my guild was kind enough to have me tag along on them for the vault rewards.

I think having the key downgrade is flawed as a system. A fail should keep the key as it was, given that there are also timer/reward factors as well.

You want to encourage progression, not discourage it.

Do you have a proposed solution?

Looks like they fixed this for everyone other than the titled players - glad they listened

100% right you are. Probably one of the top threads that is hitting the right spot in awhile.

Thanks!

I do think they should expand the non-deplete to all keys though.

Keeping the deplete mechanic doesn’t add anything to high end m+

  1. These players will still play for 6 hours a day
  2. The spread of IO across the player base won’t get larger
  3. the change will just respect these peoples time (who are a huge consumer of the content)

IKR I want to play but cannot do it, because I dont want to push the same key to its previous state.
it is utterly boring.

I will never, ever, ever tank or heal for a pug ever again. Guildmates and friends only. “Here’s a role where if anything anywhere at all goes wrong, it’s automatically your fault, because the social aspects of a zero-consequences game are truly awful.”

Pugs complaining about not being able to find a tank/healer have nobody to blame but themselves. Guilds and other consistent groups trying to find a tank/healer suffer, yes, I agree – but Blizzard isn’t going to change anything to help.

They really did not.

They added in a boredom prevention mechanic.

Imagine if whenever you died, you had to level back to 80 (from 79).

That’s beyond trivial for raiders or m+ players. It’s the same concept.

Only issue I have is that it’s too low. Should’ve been 3k.

Key depletes should not even be a thing. Every point you made makes complete sense. I think Blizzard is getting there but everything takes them so much time.

Well they are moving forward with key depletes not being a thing but only for keys lower than 12
