Heya, my mother recently lost her authenticator for her warcraft account, shes got full access to her email address but cannot access battle.net and the customer service email responses keep giving her links that she cant access because /she cant log in without the authenticator/ (also cant remember that outdated phone number on the account)
Is there a phone number to call or something we’re missing ?
We don’t have a direct line, no, but our staff should be able to help.
If she has a phone number attached to her account she should be able to manage her security options and remove the Authenticator. Use this link.
Otherwise, it will allow her to submit a ticket, supplying an ID for verification, and we can remove the Authenticator for her.
Uh oh… but not to worry. I think Blizz can get the authenticator reomoved temporarily and get he access. Then, of course, you’ll want to get a phone app authenticator. Not as good as the key fob version, but still pretty darn secure.
She can try this link to remove the authenticaotr:
https://us.battle.net/support/en/help/product/services/316/974
But if that doesn’t work, she can try a ticket here:
https://us.battle.net/support/en/help/contact/322/ticket
Hopefully they can assist. Make sure she explains that the authenticaotr is lost. There’s going to be some hoops to jump through (we don’t want any nasty hackers to be able to go around removing people’s authenticators willy nilly). She might need to scan and send in a copy of her ID.
Out of curiosity, why is my phone authenticator not as good as the keyfob?
Phone can get hacked. Key Fob is completely isolated. Not that a phone hack for a WoW authenticator is terribly likely, but it’s certainly got more weaknesses then the Key fob.
She sent her ID but it turns out it expired, whoops, she does not remember the phone number attached to the account she hasnt used the account in about a year. They sent a link so she could use her care card but it the link requires her to log in, should she create a new battle.net account to use for customer service ?
There usually is an option to submit the ticket without logging in. Can you give me the link they provided?
She will forward the email that was sent to me and I’ll see if I can send the link
Heres the link, http://us.battle.net/support/case/detail/73838146
She can give details about the characters on her account etc anything you need to prove she owns it lol
Ah, I think that is her ticket ID, which is why it is asking for a log in. I’d recommend she put in a ticket as she did before, attaching her care card and note that ticket ID in the description. A Game Master should be able to use that and update the account.
Thanks so much for the help! She’ll send in another email when she has free time and see if that works :3
Bud, if my phone gets hacked my authenticator is the least of my worries.
Further, if we still played my son could play while I was at work, whereas the keyfob would be, well with my keys.
Please stuck to facts and leave your speculation out of things without clarifying it is your own speculation when trying to legit help somebody in need.
OP, hope your mom gets this easily resolved bud.
I agree.
Yeah… I’ve run into that issue with my son. On rare occasion he’s texted me for the Authenticator code that I then text back to him.
What are you talking about? Generally, a key fob is slightly more secure than a phone app. The phone app is still pretty darn secure and I said that when I recommended that they get it.
I’m not going to sit here and go back and forth with you over this. All it will do is derail the thread.
The only authenticator available is the phone app one and it is a very secure app that will protect your account OP
Yes it is. That’s why I recommended they use it. Sorry you got hung up on a parenthetical comment. You asked me “out of curiosity”; I explained it; then you wanted to argue.
Here is the issue. It was information not needed. It never needed to be said. You simply cannot get a keyfob anymore. It is not available. So it does not need to be mentioned. It clouds the waters of the information.
But here get this, but your phone can get hacked so the keyfob is better, which you cannot get. Do you not see how that can muddy the waters when a probably extremely emotional poster that was just compromised is looking for reassurances? Hey this is the best but you cannot have that so have this? It should do? In these circumstances this will do is not good enough. Solid reassurances are.
I did not want to argue, I wanted clarification as to why it was said in the first place, when it was not needed.
Back on topic, OP, I have had the phone authenticator for some time. I love the fact that the system knows my login and I don’t need it every single time. I love the fact that if I log in somewhere new, like say the forums from a new phone, or at my friends house, I can push a button. There is no error in typing a code before it changes. One push done. I cannot recommend it enough. My account is currently closed as I do not have the time to dedicate to the game, but not in a million years would I ever think of removing my mobile authenticator. You will be in very good, very secure hands, and simply put is in my opinion the best additional security available you can place upon your account.
That’s not what you asked. You asked why I thought the key fob was more secure than the phone app.
As fo the rest of your comments, I’ll just suggest that you post your way and I’ll post my way.
Toodles!
Key fobs are not more secure than the phone authenticator, as the one-touch feature is more secure than entering in a code. Apart from that, the keychain ones have been long-discontinued and any currently around must be nearing the end of their battery life, making the point moot.
I personally prefer the phone app - easier to keep with me, easier to use, and also lets me know the location the login request is from in case someone tries to access my account.
How about we not comment on other styles entirely? Every time, these threads turn into a back and forth about some trivial pedantic points. Can we stop?
To your point, a keyfob can be stolen a good deal easier, it could break, batteries die, get dropped in the toilet, etc…
A phone tends to be a good deal more secure overall. If you lose it the authenticator can be transferred as long as you have the Serial number/Restore Code. You can also duplicate it on different devices.
You may prefer the keyfob, by it is no means better.
