Secondly - I’m sure this has been posted before, has to have been.
The Loot Roll System in its current state is being abused by people with no morals. It has detrimental effect on the WoW community as a whole.
What’s happening plain and simple:
People with extremely good gear are joining raids and Rolling need on items that are far worse than what they currently have. (IE: they have a 489ilvl item in the slot and are rolling on a 470ivl item for the same slot).
When and if they win an item they are going through the roster of people who are eligible for trading it too and trying to SELL it to them.
Other People are doing the same as #1 but instead of selling it they are trading it to a friend in the raid that did not win the item.
The Fix is easy CHANGE to Following:
Priority Roll NEED’ing goes to people who are filling/playing that Class/Spec at the time of the roll and do not have an item for that slot that is being rolled on that is a greater iLvl equipped or in the bank.
So with #1 basically it would create a 3rd roll Priority. which would go as follows:
1a. Person filling that roll at the time of the drop that does not have an item for that slot that is being rolled on that is a greater iLvl equipped or in the bank. IE: Tank or Healer or DPS
1b. Swapped Loot Specs trying to build a set and does not have an item for that slot that is being rolled on that is a greater iLvl equipped or in the bank.
1c. Off-SPec stays almost the same but Priority goes to the person who does not have an item for that slot that is being rolled on that is a greater iLvl equipped or in the bank.
Rolls for TransMog stay the way they are falling behind Filled Slot Need Rolls > Spec Need Rolls > Off-Spec Need Rolls.
Rolls for Greed would stay the same falling behind Filled Slot Need Rolls > Spec Need Rolls > Off-Spec Need Rolls > Transmog Rolls.
4. The Most important on - Flat out stop the person with no morals by eliminating their ability to roll on any item when they currently have a MUCH better item equipped or in the bank.
did they participate in the kill? if yes then they are allowed to do what they want with the loot that they fairly earned. you are not entitled to loot or peoples time
There is no abuse happening when people are rolling for loot, gold or transmog. I may not agree with someone’s intentions, but if they participated in a boss kill, they are just as entitled to roll as I am. That’s how it works. If the party/raid is unhappy with someone’s decisions, then they are also free to remove them. Personally, I’d rather have the freedom to decide what I want to do with my loot than have the game decide for me.
Players already cannot roll Need on the exact same items that they already have at the same or higher item level. The one exception to this rule is tertiary statistics like Leech.
Easiest solution is just bring back personal loot and be done with it. 99% of guilds cannot handle or distribute loot without extreme bias with masterlooter and for content below that you have zero reason to not need roll on everything that you can besides morals but somebody else is just going to need roll it that doesn’t need it anyways. If I go into LFR on a character for example I have literally zero incentive to actually use the transmog button instead of need rolling on items I don’t actually need.
To be honest I can’t even blame people for abusing the system because this is the absolute disaster the community wanted and the reason why this loot system got removed in the first place is happening again. I don’t personally do it but it’s like if you’re a class that can loot Signet Brand for example from Smolderon but your class doesn’t use it, why wouldn’t you just go join a group, ninja it, and have somebody give you 100k gold for it? This is the garbage that people wanted.
There used to be somewhat of an honour code when it came to need/greed, but that’s long gone so everyone should just need everything until a better system (personal loot) comes up.
Why do I care that you get loot? Are you in my other groups contributing to their success?
No you aren’t and the true reality is that us super geared folks are not only contributing our fair share but MORE than our fair share. You got your roll and it wasn’t in your favor. Geared people do not exist to funnel and feed you gear in pugs. Pay for carries if you want that.
One day you’ll get your monkey paw wish and we’ll get lesser mode appearances obtaining the item on the higher difficulty and we won’t be in your runs or we’ll be bringing our own minimally geared alts to soak up and leech on gear. Either way there will be far less consistent groups out there struggling to not only fill but get past the freebie bosses.
Edit - It’s funny that you people think personal loot will save you here. The geared people are still eligible for the drop. It’s still in their bags and still tradeable to whatever friend or buyer they find. In what world do you even fathom it is fair for a geared person to join a raid and be eligible to roll on nothing while carrying the group?
So far the easiest fix iʻve seen is make all need rolls Bind to account.
No selling items allowed.
it limits trading between players but if you roll need then you need it and shouldnt want to trade it anyway.
Yes some could be intentionally rolling need to keep loot out of others hands because somewhere out there there is some strange individual who gets a dopamine rush doing stuff like that.
all in all if you are rolling need on it you should want to keep it.

Needing has been part of the game and causing people to cry since the good old days.
Regular dungeons, heroics, raids, whatever - been going on. Nothing new.
Blame Cross Realm Gold trading, not the loot system.
Why is this a problem? Helping your friends should be encouraged.
All doing this would do is exacerbate the healer/tank shortage in lower levels of content. If people can’t roll for DPS gear by off spec tank/healing, fewer people will play their offspecs in pugs.
I cannot speak for anything higher than LFR, but in LFR I can totally need on anything I can equip. Look at my gear. I can need on every bow/gun in Amirdissal.
It has to be the correct weapon type, and have the correct main stat for need. For survival, this is only staves/polearms with agility, they can’t roll on 2H strength swords.
Time to take some shots and fill in those bingo squares. Someone lost a loot roll and has come to the forums to cry about while offering a terrible suggestion for how to ‘fix’ it.
