On Tuesdays my guild runs a 25 man. We do Throne and either BD or Bot, alternating. We then do the other with two 10 man groups. It’s been working fine this way. My question is with Firelands only being one raid would we still be able to run it this way. One day of 25 and if we don’t finish it to split it into 10 mans?

That’s an interesting question. The reason y’all are able to use the strategy you’re using now is because y’all are splitting into two 10p raids and doing the raid that you didn’t start (aren’t locked to) on those characters. That won’t work headed into Firelands, because it’s just one raid, and 10 and 25p share a lockout, and normal modes and heroic modes do the same.
As soon as you kill a boss in the instance every character in the raid is locked to the ID. So, if you go in there and kill a boss on 25p, you’re locked to 25p and will not be able to enter the 10p raid on those characters. Now, if you have alts, it’s a different story, but it won’t be possible on your mains if you kill a boss in the 25p instance.
Now, maybe I’m misunderstanding your question and you’re asking if you’d be able mix Firelands into your strategy, say, do Throne, and then do either BD, BoT, or FL, then yes, that should be possible because those should all still be separate lockouts.

I was hoping that if we don’t finish FL in one night we could do it on 10 man another day.
For what it’s worth, this is what Wowhead says:
Raid lockouts in Cataclysm Classic are boss-specific, meaning players can kill each boss in either 10- or 25-player mode during the same week. What this means is that you can, for example, join a 25-player raid at the start of the week and clear as far as possible, then finish up the raid later in the week as a 10-player group to clear the final bosses.
I think the way it would work, is if you killed any heroic boss on 25, you all are locked to that heroic ID. You can split into 10mans the next night, but you won’t be able to turn heroic mode on.
You will not be able to run it that way unfortunately.
In Cataclysm, raids can only be 10 or 25. You can’t do one if you’re locked to the other, with the exception of Baradin Hold in phase 1 because Blizzard made a boo-boo. You can however change between normal and heroic while inside the instance.
If you do normal, you’re able to pick up where you left off in any group, as long as it’s the same size (10 vs 25) and as long as they’re on the same boss as you, or at a later boss.
If you do heroic, you have to complete it with the same group you started it with, because each heroic instance has a unique lockout ID. If your raid leader makes a new group later in the week, and you’re not in it, you won’t be able to finish heroic that week in a different group.
Last week specifically we took some alts and one main into 25man BoT, killed the first two bosses on heroic, then council on normal. A few days later we took that one main toon and nine other mains into the lockout on 10man to kill heroic Cho’gall and Sinestra.
What you’re trying to do will probably work, but I’m not sure if it would let both groups kill a heroic Ragnaros.
