Loot Distribution in TBC

So my guild is trying to figure out a loot system for TBC. We would like to do silent bid DKP or a EP/GP system because that’s what we used in classic. With that being said we have realized some glaring issues that may not let us use these systems.

In phase 1 the raids we have available are Kara which is 10m and Gruuls/Mag Lair which are both 25m. We will have to split our raid team into 2 groups for kara and combine when we do our 25m. This is where we come across the issue of using DKP and EP/GP. You cant run 2 separate tables in the 10m and combine them when going into 25m. It just doesn’t make sense to do that.

We can’t just do a /roll or SR for kara and DKP or EP/GP in Gruuls/Mag Lair because it doesnt seem worth it for 3 bosses in total. Has anyone come up with a solution to doing DKP or EP/GP in phase 1 using all raids without all the complications it may involve?

What are some solutions your guilds are doing for loot in phase 1?

No - you just use rolls in 10 man groups because it’s SUPER easy to get everyone everything.

Look at the 10 man roster:

1 Prot Warrior
1 Prot Pally
1 Hpally
1 R shaman
1 R druid
1 healy priest
2 locks
1 hunter
1 mage

It won’t take long to get everyone their stuff. Plus, you can change the groups weekly so what you should do is if someone gets X super hot item (like mace from maiden) they go in the group with the healers that still need it, so you’re not still competing for the same item in the other group against 2 other healers just 1 other instead.

Plus, you’ll be running one split group of 5 of your core raiders with 5 alts so you stack that group to funnel them what they need.

Another complication is do you attach the points to the player or the character. After the first few weeks, many players will have alts up and running and will likely be able to use those alts to fill out the 3rd kara run so all your main 25 man roster will all be able to participate in kara.

Everything is going to be GDKP. It’s the fairest system and takes almost no effort to manage in comparison to almost every other system.

Intra-guild gdkp? That sounds like a can of worms. What happens when someone shows up to raid every week with thousands of gold? Do the raid leaders then have to have each player prove how they obtained that gold to avoid gold buyers rigging the system? I’ve got no problem with gdkp for pugs and the like but there’s enough guild drama as it is without having to deal with this too

you can roll karazhan
and only use dkp for 25 mans

They buy stuff until they’re geared, then everyone else has their money.

Gold is fungible and has no memory.

Nah man. Notglinda can be direct and sometimes a little forceful in their arguments but always seems to be discussing in good faith.

Maybe try something besides an ad hominem attack.

Or, are you afraid I might actually be right?

I’ve for sure seen guilds doing GDKP - it’s awful but super common. Especially in old content where only one or two people need something.

gib all ur purples to Esfand

Back in original tbc my guild used player based points on a content based scale. These aren’t the original numbers we used (can’t remember the real ones) but they’ll show the general usage:

  • 10 man main - 10 points
  • 25 man main - 25 points
  • 10 man alt - 5 points
  • 25 man alt - 10 points

The interesting thing is that we operated under negative dkp with no floor. Each type of item (armor, 1hand weapon, 2 hander, trinket, ring, etc) had a fixed cost regardless of item rarity (a few items being an exception). The player with the highest (usually least negative) dkp won the loot if they bid on it. Those points would be subtracted from the player’s current dkp.

Loot Council, it’s what i think my guild is going forward with, we do a monthly rotation to a new council so its always fair

It’s not for everyone, but it causes the least amount of drama of any system I’ve seen.

Worried about gold buying? Put a cap on bids and /roll any ties.

Worried about one person getting all the drops? Limit the number you can win per raid.

There’s a work around for almost every problem and there’s no bookkeeping. Plus, it keeps the typical outside-of-raid social drama to a minimum.

The biggest problem that people seem to have with GDKP, differences between the haves and the have nots, is rectified simply by using the system.

That all being said, I think mount drops should be distributed by a simple /roll by EVERYONE in attendance.

Loot council usually works, like 50% of the time. When guilds are farming end game contents. Loot council suddenly stops working because officers got all the loot they want.

Any system that favours MS over OS is unfair for the hybrids imo. Healers and tanks should be able to gear up their DPS roles for world questing/farming.

Free roll/ SR is acceptable since none is favoured. Other than that, we are left with Gdkp. The best loot system.

Excuse me sir, what is a world quest?
