Regardless of my error, it still goes back to what people have done with their time since the datamined announcement a year ago and what they’ve done since to earn their gold.
It’s just like Aesop’s tale of the ant and the grasshopper. If they’ve done nothing to earn the gold, they’re now panicking about running out of time to earn the gold. If they’ve been saving up, they’re closing in on acquiring it and are likely on the home stretch!
As to why Blizzard is removing it off the vendor? That’s up to them and they haven’t reversed their decision. No sense in debating that unless you’re in touch with Blizzard or just want to speculate, cry and moan about it but that won’t do anything productive.
And u do realize people need or want to spend gold during an xpac for other stuff right? Not some 5 mil vendor mount that blizz has never taken a vendor mount out like that before
Well, not necessarily. I had worked out a plan that would have gotten me the gold in approximately four years. This was based on how I play, what I like to do in game, how fast I acquire gold, and how much time I can devote to playing at all. This seemed like a very doable plan to me, and I started out at the beginning of the expansion working on it diligently.
Then, approximately nine months ago, we learned the mount was not going to be like all other mounts sold from vendors. That it was going to be removed. We learned this not through Blizzard, but from a player making this thread about a data mine. A Blizzard employee later posted in this thread and confirmed the data mine information. And that is all Blizzard has said about it until Ion casually mentioned (in a recent interview about Shadowlands) that the Brutosaur was going away in the pre-patch.
I have been complaining not because I’m suddenly panicking, but because this move is unprecedented (and that I believe it’s a very bad precedent to set). I’ve also voiced my opinion that Blizzard has handled the issue extremely poorly. They’ve had numerous opportunities to make an official news announcement about the removal, but instead they’re relying on this thread and word-of-mouth.
Since Blizzard’s “official” reason for the removal (stated in this thread) is that they don’t want to see AH mounts become as common as repair mounts, I have felt that a reasonable compromise would be for them to replace the Mighty Caravan Brutosaur with an ordinary brutosaur mount without the AH. There are numerous models already in the database, so it would entail no extreme effort on their part. Players who already have the MCB could earn themselves a second brutosaur if they so wish. Players like me, who just wanted a cool sauropod mount, would still have the opportunity to get one.
Yes, those who wanted the AH feature would be left relying on the BMAH RNG, but I feel AH moguls who needed the mount already got it, and that your argument about snoozing and losing is appropriate in this particular context. But overall, most of those complaining here aren’t doing so from “panic”, they’re doing so because this is simply a nasty, player-unfriendly move on Blizzard’s part.
That’s… an extremely long time frame to save up gold. Might i point you to YT to watch a few gold farm / raw gold videos & possibly learn how to curb your impulse buying (as i did when i started saving for my spider) and/or how to use an AH addon to know the value of the items that you come across?
The yak originally had another vendor which was later transformed into the transmog vendor so who knows, perhaps as you suggest, a change may well still happen but for now, you may just have to roll with it.
You’ll earn a lot of gold from questing in SL and if you sell the new herbs/ore/boe’s, you can also expect to make a tidy profit in the first six months too! Also, if you have a tailor, start crafting bags! Those sell very well! You can never stockpile too many!
Lol! Do you think someone who plans things out years in advance suffers from impulse buying?
Seriously though, I understand that not everyone can think long-term. I just happen to be the sort who does. That’s why this removal hit me so hard. I had no reason to imagine that Blizzard would remove a goldsink mount from its vendors since that had never been done, ever, in the history of the game. Sure, they make changes all the time, and that’s fine. But this particular change is not fine and was handled extremely poorly.
If I’d known from the start that availability was limited to this expansion, I would have categorized it with all the other time-limited things that I know I can’t get and moved on. There are lots of other things to focus on in WoW, after all. But I’d made a concerted effort toward this mount–skipping many other things while doing so. To have my goal snatched away like this really made me rethink how much time I spend in WoW (which wasn’t that much, but still…).
I will always disagree with anyone who thinks setting this precedent is a good thing. Making things limited is fine if they’re introduced as time-limited items to begin with. Changing the rules mid-game is not the way to induce loyalty and keep people playing. If it weren’t for my friends who play, I’m pretty sure I would have just dropped my subs. I have far more fun practicing my music these days.
You’ll say anything to try and ruin it won’t you? The only gold drops that had been changed in recent memory were the mission table gold missions. Raw gold farms from dungeons and raids haven’t been touched as far as i remember.
Alright I agree with what you’ve said about your priorities. That is in fact correct. People who want the Cutting Edge Achievement for example, spend all of their time getting it.
But this is a different scenario here. Traditionally, Blizzard has introduced Mounts like the 2m Spider and Vendor mounts and left it in because they want the community to get it over time.
This time, they’re just going for a random cash grab. The entire expansion is just one massive cash grab with Subscription Mounts, the innumerable grinds and how they have chosen to cut costs and copy Legion systems and present them as new features instead of being honest and telling: Hey we’re improving the previous systems.
You can even see the apparent laziness in their ability to design what they call “Allied Races”. Most of that is outright Character Customization and they brand it as a feature of the expansion.
It’s pretty obvious that choosing to retire the mount is a blatant cash grab either with tokens or forcing people to sub. Let’s be honest: Do you think 5 million gold is going to make the people who have millions of gold poor? The concept of gold sink mounts itself is stupid because, as you have said, people with priorities of gold making will always find a way to keep Blizzard in the dust regarding gold.
That’s the only reason I was upset about. I get where blizz is coming from not wanting everyone to have AH access everywhere and possibly create lag. but to just randomly “announce” it mid xpac is stupid.
It makes you wonder why they didn’t think this would be a problem when they came up with the idea of an AH mount. If they had thought it through more thoroughly, they could have announced the Brutosaur as time-limited from the start (and/or put it on the tool-tip on the vendor).
I get that people make mistakes. But I feel like the corner-cutting and pressure put on devs from corporate causes way more mistakes than necessary. Bean counters should never be put in charge of creative endeavors (in my personal artist’s opinion).
I have finally found an out-of-the way mail-box that allows my Brutosaur to shamble forward a few paces, pick up my mail, shamble back, and allow me to post. All w/out covering the mailbox or being parked in a “traffic lane”.
i had 5M last December to purchase Long Boi, and as of this reply i am 300k away from 5M all from just playing alts and being miserly with my gold hoard
One of my problems is most of my alts (and all of my 120’s) are on different servers. I can’t effectively farm gold and put it all in one pot. But, hey, that’s not anyone’s problem but my own.
My main reason for not getting the 5M in time is that I never played often enough, and lately I’ve not been playing much at all. I just have too many other things to which I’d rather devote my time. People have said four years was a long time to plan out my gold earning, but it’s going to take a lot longer than that to get decent on the piano (and a lot more practice than I’ve ever put into WoW). I’m okay with things taking time.
The mailbox is accessible by everyone even if your mount covers it. The mailbox icon will appear “through” your mount.
But if that doesn’t appeal and you wish to just sit and do auctions yet still have access to /2, you can always park your Bruto in your garrison which has a mailbox - no shambling needed!
Here’s a helpful YT video for you. Click the Show More underneath the video for helpful links, but you’ve definitely got time if you put in the effort and make the Bruto a priority! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RG0g856ck-o
There’s more videos by the same streamer, so check those out too!
SL comes out in Q4, probably Oct/Nov/Dec as per recent news (but who knows, it may be delayed due to Covid) - put in the time, set it as your goal, and you can do it!
