Looks Like the Mighty Caravan Brutosaur might Be Unobtainable In 9.0.1 (Part 1)

I don’t think he is ignoring what you said, any part of it…at least no more than you’re ignoring his first sentence.

You are correct, “getting gold” isn’t hard, necessarily. But getting substantial amounts of gold is.

All players don’t “play the AH”, or even use it.

Playing the AH is actually a play style in this game, just like PvPing or Raiding is a play style. There are people who play for just that purpose, or with that being the main thing they do (even if they raid or PvP or whatever).

I would venture to bet that the vast majority of players have around 500k to 2M that they just passively “earn” as they play. Some have less, some have more, but “most” would probably fall somewhere in that range (or fairly close thereto, within a million at least on the high end).

All styles of play also don’t just hand out gold like candy. For instance, most players who PvP as their main, or only, game time probably have significantly less than average since that play style doesn’t actually award much gold, nor does it give materials or other things to sell on the AH.

The phrases “don’t have” or “do have” gold is very contextual, and fairly subjective.

Personally, I have about 1M gold across all of my characters on my current server. I don’t play the AH, nor do I use it for anything other than to buy potions and flasks. I don’t PvP unless there is some associated reward or achievement I want/need. I raid and I do open world content and I collect things and I work on achievements. I am “poor” comparatively with anyone who may or may not purchase the Brutosaur, and I have no aspirations to try to buy it (or the Spider that also costs 5M gold) even though I am a mount collector simply because obtaining 5M gold is fairly insurmountable for a player such as myself.

Honestly, I don’t really know how anyone can be truly poor in this game because gold is obtained freely from most forms of play. But if someone were to ask me if I was trying to buy a mount that costs 5M gold my answer would simply be “I don’t have gold for that” because, well… I don’t and never will.

I’m just saying… If you’re going to say someone is ignoring you, perhaps you should actually attempt to not ignore them. You should also take into consideration the multitude of play styles in game that don’t actually lend themselves to easy gold making.

-The brutosaur is intended as a prestige mount. I can’t remember whether that term was brought up regarding the spider or the brutosaur, but it was definitely brought up previously when complaints about the price of one of the two came up during the beta of the expansion of whichever one it was. It was specifically stated that a price tag like that was intended to make it a prestige item for those that have a lot of gold.

-The brutosaur is in fact prestigious. I’ve had it since day one of the expansion. I can’t count the number of whispers and comments I’ve gotten about it. The vast majority have been positive. Said comments have mostly stopped since the advent of flying, but once in a while I get one in an instance. To claim it’s not prestigious is very silly, and from most of those in the thread comes across as sour grapes.

-Almost nothing that’s been removed has been announced as going to be removed from the start of an expansion. The legendary ring is the only thing I can think of off the top of my head. Would it be preferable? Of course. But expecting a behavior out of Blizzard that they have a clear pattern of not following is pretty dumb, frankly. There’s a lot of stuff they remove regularly that people expect because of similar content having previously also been removed (such as gladiator mounts), but it’s not like they announce that straight up. They didn’t announce the MoP legendary cloak was going away until right before the last patch. They didn’t announce challenge mode rewards going away until about the same time. They didn’t announce the Naxx achievement mounts going away until right before they did. They didn’t announce the mage tower appearances going away until long into Legion (in fact, it was up in the air for many months into the expansion as to whether /all/ of them would be going away after the expansion). They didn’t announce there would be BfA Season 1 feats of strength for M+ dungeons until most of the way through Season 1 and they never announced runs done previous to the FoS going into the game wouldn’t count. They didn’t announce at the start of WoD or Legion that the functionality of garrisons/order halls would be stripped (multiple times in the case of garrisons). There are doubtless many more things, this is just what I can think of off the top of my head.

The reality is that expecting a start-of-expansion announcement about everything they’re going to remove is an unrealistic expectation. The things they’ve made those announcements about have been rare. There is no clear pattern of this happening, whereas it’s well-established that they usually don’t announce things like that. It’s also unrealistic because they clearly don’t anticipate how players are going to utilize many game systems beforehand (or even how they’re going to evolve them through the expansion). It’s obvious, for example, that they never anticipated the folks that put together dozens of garrisons simply to farm gold (why they then repeated the mistake with order halls baffled me even when order halls were announced, but there are plenty of decisions that makes one wonder how smart the decision makers are at Blizz).

-The brutosaur is not gone. It will be on the BMAH. You will still have a chance for it.

-Grinding 20/hrs a day as a disabled person or having leftover garrison/order hall gold are not the only ways to get the kind of gold one needs . As someone who both plays a lot due to being disabled and who isn’t spending most of that time farming gold, and who did not earn that gold through garrisons/order halls, that’s really insulting to suggest on a number of levels.

-Should they make the other brutosaur models available in some way? Sure, I’d love that. I maintain that suggesting that in this thread will never get read at all let alone get the suggestion in the correct ears to actually happen.

-This remains far too much angst over the move of one single mount to the BMAH (especially since at least some of the people so upset just care about the model rather than the unique mobile AH functionality). It’s one mount. It’s one mount you won’t even use for at least half the expansion because it’s ground only. It’s one of my favorites, but seriously…you have literally hundreds of others to choose from.

Expecting Blizzard to do a better job at communication is not dumb. Stop making excuses for their lackadaisical attitude when it comes to telling us things are going to be removed or changed.

It’s not unrealistic at all. It’s not like the Brutosaur just accidentally made it into the game.

Just 99.9% less available. Sure, not “removed”, but very close to it.

The precedence, and the lack of communication for it, are not something we should just sit back and let happen without giving feedback about why we’re unhappy with it.

If there’s stuff out there that’s more concerning to you, then stick to those threads.

Excellent points, Adalia. :+1:

Actually, expecting Blizzard to get better with their communication is, in fact, pretty dumb at this point. They’ve been claiming they’re going to do better for more than a third of the game’s lifespan now. They still haven’t done it. Would it be nice if they got better? Of course. Is it going to happen at any point in the future, near or otherwise? Not a snowball’s chance in hell. I mean, I’m not even upset about WCIII Reforged (the couple hours I’ve played it, everything worked fine and looked great), but I rolled my eyes big time at the complete non-apology that came out from Blizzard regarding it. It was a total sorry/not-sorry. I mean, how many times and ways do they have to do this kind of stuff for you to realize that they don’t care their communication sucks?

They. Don’t. Care.

They don’t care that you don’t think a blue post is an announcement. They don’t care that they “only” gave a year’s leadtime for people to save up. They could not care less that a tiny number of people are upset about one mount becoming more restricted to get. They don’t even care about actual, gameplay affecting issues like essences not being account wide. Stuff that actually affects how the game functions and whether people play. They don’t care that Brahmina, as one person, plays less often because she’s sad she won’t save up in time. They’re still getting her sub money (and one person actually quitting over this wouldn’t phase them at all anyway).

The only time they care is when the backlash is massive on a grand scale. I doubt this is even a blip on the radar at Blizz.

It would be nice if they cared more. I think a major part of the problems we see these days is a huge lack of passion at the company. I don’t know if it’s just the higher ups or bureaucracy squeezing it out before anything actually makes it into the game, but this is no longer the company that was led by people that were such huge fans of their own product they made a band based around it. But whatever the source, the passion is gone and they mostly don’t give a crap. They certainly don’t give a crap about things like the forums with the incredibly silly things people throw fits about. When I see things like the shadow priests complaining that they might as well reroll (even though they’re middle of the pack overall and fourth from the top in dps in mythic)…well, it’s the kind of hyperbole that shows why they don’t bother to give most of the playerbase the time of day. There’s too much garbage for them to sort through to find the actual problems and good feedback.

Really, though, GC’s time in the spotlight was an aberration. They were terrible at communicating before he took it upon himself to address that issue and they’ve been terrible ever since he was gone. I’m sure you know the old saw about the definition of insanity being doing the same thing and expecting different results. It applies here for sure, because Blizz sure isn’t going to change based on the forums.

This is so true it hurts.

If they don’t care, is it any wonder that more and more players are finding it hard to care, too?

Got the mount.

Still don’t think this is fair for people to grind out with the remaining time given.

If I made the money to buy this mount, I’d turn around and spend it on literally anything else because im bloody rich.

Especially true given the fact that the Token value is steadily sinking lower and lower and lower. It’ll probably never get back to 160-170K gold value again before 9.0.1 hits live.

The token value will probably end up at 50,000 or less before Shadowlands comes out.

if it went that low people would cash in on blizzard bucks and end up with a profit even if they had bought up to gold cap back when it was 200k. even more so if they farmed it/ earned the gold in game.

Dude this cracked me up

It’s like you’re the only commenter on that post who actually “got” it, Og. :+1:

Really? I didn’t even read others responses after it tbh. I’ve read some of the comments about the bront mount and I feel about the same that it’s a shady practice. They never should take it out. Because they never really have a vendor item before. And to not get an official word posted anywhere by the company seems a bit odd. Just the blue post in here that is hidden somewhere about now. I mean I’m saving for it. I have about half way. I had it like a month ago but bought the tcg rooster off someone for 5 million on my server. And yes this is making people buy tokens for it. I’ve bought some personally to fluff my gold amount. I’m still farming and selling where I can. But if it comes down to the wire I will have to buy the last to insure I get it. As for the one player saying it’s prestigious and shouldn’t be available. Not the dude I said it was funny but the other guy. He is wrong to the fullest. This mount has nothing to do with achievement status of any kind. Gold isn’t that crazy of a thing anymore to have. Hell a lot the ah guys made gold during legion by something most the community doesn’t realize. Peeps had a little exploit they used in wod with their tcg mounts. And gold cap was only 1 million in wod. So these mounts were being bought up by them for crazy prices nowadays. Like from 1-300k each. Now that was a lot gold in wod. But they put these mounts for most part away until legion time. While the other part community was making gold in garrison stuff and just legion itself u could make gold easy. They raised the gold cap to 10 million. So what did these 1-300k mounts value become? 7-10 million. Just saying. A lot these guys claiming their wealth aren’t that great. And u could just buy tokens anyways. It’s not a feat lol

I think the best gesture Blizzard could make regarding this highly unpopular decision is to extend the Brutosaur for one more expansion. Make a statement on the forums and the launcher that says that Blizzard has heard the feedback, and agrees that they handled it poorly by not announcing loud and clear that they were going to restrict this mount. To make amends the deadline is being extended for one more expansion, and then it will be restricted.

This would go a long way to restoring some of the rapidly dwindling customer faith in the company.

It’d be nice if they even made an official announcement that it was moving to the BMAH. They just had to remind people that there’s a legendary cloak in this patch, and that’s almost impossible to miss. The vast majority definitely have no idea anything is going to change with the Brutosaur.

I still say its a ROTTEN mess Blizzard removing the Long Boy and putting it too the BMAH…its not fair to newer player that that wasn’t around for WoD and Legion and tons of gold we could make off the missions boards…I am glad I was able to afford mine day 1 of BfA but not many players could do that and wanted to work to get more gold as time went on.

I mean same for the Mammoth mount of its time…I was 3rd person on my realm back then to get it…got called out as a Gold buyer and other nasty stuff…most player base couldn’t afford Mammoth right off and took them like though Cata to get enough. But you never removed Mammoth or Yak but now all of sudden you’re removing the Long Boy cause you don’t want tons of them around …how bloody silly…

They did. In this very thread they made an announcement that confirms it will be on the BMAH.

It doesn’t have to be put on the front page of the website or the launcher to be an official announcement. That was literally an official announcement.

Again, not an announcement. It’s a confirmation. They didn’t make a thread of their own. They didn’t make a blog post. There’s nothing in the patch notes about it going to the BMAH.

This is not an official announcement no matter how you want to slice it.

I see you writing a response, don’t bother. I don’t want to read whatever defense you have of their apathetic communication skills.

It’s utterly baffling that anybody can look at how Blizzard has handled this and thought to themselves “this was handled well”.

I suppose that’s your opinion. I don’t personally think they need to guide us that much, I think it’s official enough since it’s got the bright blue tag by the mega-thread. Do you really think that them making a whole new thread would suddenly make everyone aware?

Then don’t read it. You can’t tell someone to not post on this forum, no matter how much you want to your order simply won’t go anywhere. Anyone who isn’t suspended or banned from the forum can post in any thread they want here.

It’s not my opinion. It’s an objective fact. It doesn’t meet any of the requirements for an announcement.

They didn’t create a thread on their own. They didn’t create a blog post. They didn’t put anything in the patch notes about it going to the BMAH. It was never on the launcher.

So once again, it has not actually been announced.
