Ok well then I suppose your reply was rather pointless too no?
Easier said than done for many. Yesteryears teenagers, college students and soldiers are now adults with families. Most of us have gone casual, bills need to be paid, real life goals need to be achieved and planning for retirement has to happen.
That said, I can afford an extra $20 per month, but as a working father of 4, my time is a precious commodity.
you are getting physically ill over pixels in a video game… is this a joke or something?
Maybe he will come back in SL as a glorious spectral ghost Dino that flies
I’m wondering the same thing.
I mean its not too bad. Its just unachievable goals given time limits unless I choose to suffer or pay RL money are generally what triggers this.
Like for example, gladiator mounts don’t bother me for I have been sufficiently rofl stomped by 2300 hundred teams. So I know it’s completely unreachable for me.
Unfortunately I could reach the Brutosaur with RL money…
That’s right make fun of someone’s IRL illnesses. Kick that horse while it’s down. Your life is fine so that means everyone else is doing great right?
No it’s not. Which is why I’m unhappy with Blizzard for triggering this in me.
Also it’s actually a big enough problem that over in Europe there’s a push for making loot boxes and things of its nature illegal cause pixels are tottally recking people over there.
From the point of view of changing the future of the game, yes, you’re right.
(don’t get me wrong, I may be speaking harshly, but I’m actually sympathetic and HATE what Blizzard is doing, but the moment you start talking about the business model of the game, whether your wallet opens or stays shut is the only leverage you have)
This is such a bad idea for so many reasons. If their goal is to enforce scarcity of this mount, then it will achieve the exact opposite. If they’d just left it as it was, you’d slowly start seeing more of them over the course of 4-5 years. Now, everyone is rushing to get one. Some people will buy tokens, others will farm. Some people with hordes of gold from WoD who hadn’t been planning on buying it will now buy it. Not everyone will be able to get it, but a LOT more people will end up having it sooner rather than later.
To top that off, although it will almost certainly make Blizzard a lot of money (because, for many people, spending $60/mo extra is easier to do than spend 1000+ hours farming over 9 months), I expect every single one of the players who do any of this farming or purchasing of tokens will resent having been put in a position where they were pushed to do so. The amount of bad will this will generate will far outweigh any temporary profit gains Blizzard gets. The sad thing is, they probably don’t realize or care about that.
If you are to the point of physical illness over a video game shut your computer off and go get some help.
Agreed. This is a bit much. This game isn’t serious enough to cause real illness. This is when someone might need to seek professional help or guidance. I know that video game addiction is real but players need to look for help when it reaches this state.
Eh I think just sharing what I’m experiencing might help. Though if they do this to me again I’ll probably have to consider unsubbing if Blizzard deems creating an environment that is toxic for me is the way to go.
Couldn’t say it better myself. Well done, Sir.
So, with everything I have said, I won’t be getting your mount. Is it the end of the world? Naw, but I am pretty bummed that it is now out of my reach.
On the bright side, I can save $20 per month or use it for other games. Cyberpunk 2077 looks freaking amazing.
You’re correct, it didn’t cause my illness. It was already there and just triggered it.
Think of it like chocoloate. You have the goal of losing weight of being healthier. But if someone brings chocloate or deserts into the house you’re probably going to eat it.
Solution, don’t let chocolate or candy into the house.
Edit it’s not a video game addicition, its just a if I planned to acquire something I’m going to get it. It’s just in this instance Blizzard threw up a time limit to force the mental bit in me to either grind or pay RL money. It was contemplating the grind, the “this must be done to get X” that was killing me. Now that I don’t have to contemplate it I’m good.
Also I tried therapy. Not doing it again. They can at a flip of a dime wreck you if they want to and I’m not doing it again.
Blizzard knows that a lot of WoW players have OCD habits of collecting the pets, mogs, and mounts, so they are intentionally exploiting it, especially here with the removal of the brutosaur. It’s disgusting.
Time to get my pocket book out.
I had been working for this as a goal to purchase over continued play over the long-term.
Unfortunately I have been spending gold on other things like consumables and other xmog items because I didn’t think there was a deadline involved.
I wish I had known this was going to happen when BfA started - but I guess I’ll just give Blizzard over $500 as I save up the money for it.
Yes - there’s nothing wrong with this. This is how corporations within capitalism work.
-
Blizzard kept $500k in prize pool money from their esports teams at Blizzcon.
-
Changes were made to portals which objectively made frequent travel destinations longer to get to.
-
Changes were made to water striders, despite a ridiculous amount of feedback, which increased gold consumption and/or increased travel time.
-
Blizzard releases items for cash/gold and then nerf’s them after a large chunk of sales are made.
They can do this and keep the value from it all they want. It’s not a matter of good or bad - it’s a matter of what provides them value. That’s how they operate. That’s how ALL corporations operate.
You can cry - but they won’t listen. They’ve already shut down various other threads regarding the topic.
They’ve pretty much stated “We hear you. We don’t care. Now be quiet and keep the noise isolated to one forum thread.”
And you’ll keep paying your sub. It’s quite that simple. So please stop with the “disgusting”, “bad”, etc. vocabulary.
It doesn’t matter, and players will keep giving the company their money.
True, and I agree with you to an extent, but it doesn’t change the fact that, to me, it is disgusting, especially for this company in particular. Blizzard wasn’t always this greedy and shady. For instance, they just recently had a package of items that needed to be purchased within a set amount of time, saying it’s the “Last Chance” for them; there was no reason to retire these items other than to get money fast (exploitation). They retired the recruit-a-friend rewards and added new ones, essentially requiring a person to purchase upwards of $180.00 worth of WoW time to get the new collectibles if he or she wants them. They’ve added way more mounts this expansion to the game shop than in prior expansions. There are three different versions of Shadowlands to purchase, with each upgrade having more cosmetics. Just think: if they had put half this time and energy into BFA, then class design, island expeditions, and warfronts might be more tolerable and they wouldn’t need to sell unique cosmetics to get money.
