No Christmas plans for you, then?

Mmmmm that sweet, sweet Holiday pay

Buddy, I would HOPE people won’t have plans on Thanksgiving, ESPECIALLY with what’s going on right now. To do otherwise would be irresponsible, at BEST.

Yeah, you can see it on the Blizzard site as confirmed

No thanksgiving in my country so IDC.

I would assume most people would choose family over a video game, but then I remember what this community is like.

I’m sure day 1 will be stressful. Everyone has stress at work. Things should be smooth by Thurs.

Millions of people have work hours scheduled for Thanksgiving. Why should working for a video game publisher make a difference? Some people LOVE holiday pay. Have you considered there might be a line of people volunteering to work?

Everyone on the planet is working/living through COVID. Whats your point?

Wildfires are in the area right now. This is 3 weeks from now. Remote working is a thing we have all been dealing with for 7 months now.

Those people can make that determination. If I thought my employer had asked too much of me I have a coupe of options. Deal with it or dont deal it.

Its a job ,man… not summer camp.

PS. in all seriousness, I’d dig it if you were my boss. Work life would be a dream.

“Looks like no Thanksgiving for me” Ok, some thoughts are best to keep to yourself instead of creating a thread to try to rally up haters on the date

Working for a game publisher doesn’t make it any different. Personally I believe, seeing as it’s a federal holiday, most things should be closed on Thanksgiving unless they explicitly want to stay open. While many of the devs will likely be willing to come in on Thanksgiving, I can’t imagine many of them want to. This could be avoided if they simply delay the expansion further (which if you’ve seen the beta, you would probably want).

It’s the context of what is likely constant 12+ hour work days for weeks if not months on top of covid and the fact that many members of the dev team very well might not have a home to come back to thanks to the wildfires.

I’m not saying it should be a summer camp, I’m saying that the stress this will cause employees is entirely contrived and could be completely avoided by delaying the game further (as they should be doing) and actually treating their employees like people rather than tools. I genuinely think this will cause more burnout among the dev team than it’s worth, especially considering the animosity toward Blizzard and its higher ups among the employees.

I’m in the same boat. Thanksgiving week caps out at my work a year in advance and on top of that even if I had the foresight to request it off I still don’t have enough seniority after 15 years.

I’m planning on calling off. I’ll lose holiday pay but it’s worth it. This year has been brutal personally, and every wow release since Wrath has been my own personal vacation.

It’s just so deflating.

So the 3 other times they released in November, what did you guys do then ?

It’s like 3 days before thanksgiving you have plenty of time to eat.

I’ll be working during the launch and spending time with family during the holiday since that is how my work schedule falls during that week.

Really? Why?

Can you not pull yourself away from the game for a few hours, at most a day, during launch? Besides with most the important content locked till December 8th so what’s the rush? 1 day out of that launch week won’t be that big a deal.

Hell no. I get to enjoy a food coma while Blizz inevitably spends the day fixing their servers.

I’m not in Method/Echo or Limit, I’m pausing for the holidays and bet my mythic raid lead is going to suspend activity for the holiday anyway.

If you’re not going for world first, there’s really no point in no-lifing it that hard. TFing is gone too, so that’s less farming as well.

I used to work doubles that weekend for the same reason.

A months pay in 4-5 days worth of work.

Calm the hell down. Tons of people are on around the holidays and Thanksgiving week made the most sense since people are off.

Cmon. You are acting like these people are modern day slaves. Its a job. We have all had to (or SHOULD have apparently) work hard in our lives and under pretty crappy conditions at times. These grown a$$ adults will make it out the other side. Its a shame you perceive the modern day worker to be so fragile.

Y’all act like the only day you’re allowed to play the expansion is on release day lol.

Enjoy thanksgiving and then play the next day. Not the end of the world
