Looking at new GPU's, recommend?

It might have been just a minute since I last bought a GPU and the massive price gouging over the past few years hasn’t helped much, so I haven’t really kept up on it since I wasn’t paying 1000’s for a $300 card. Prices have drastically reduced and I’ve finally started looking, but I’m a bit out of the loop.

I’d like to stick with nVidia, it’s just what I’ve used, it’s what I’m comfortable with (no hate to Radeon). I’ve seen some good things with the 30 series and 3060ti is just about perfect for my price range, but I wouldn’t be opposed to bumping up to a 3070. Thoughts? Which board maker is pretty good, ATi, Asus, MSI?

I mostly play WoW, but I also have GTA5 and DOOM Eternal, but want something better for possible future games too. I’m no high-end elitist gamer, so I don’t need to squeeze EVERY bit of FPS out I can, but I do run dual monitors and am thinking of upgrading to even better monitors in the future.

I could poke around Youtube, but just wanted to get an idea from ‘word of mouth’, what you like and don’t like, because most vids focus on the specific tech details instead of more real life situations.

So, I’m running an Nvidia 3080,and have 0 issues. Realistically a 3060ti would probably be fine unless you want ray tracing turned on in games that have it.

I thought the 3060ti’s had raytracing, did I read wrong?

Derp I miss remembered that. You are correct they do.

I feel like the 3070 was worth the money for me. I got the Founder’s Edition which is a bit cheaper, but honestly the 3060 TI would’ve been just fine.

IMO, save the money and get the 3060.

Ha, no prob, just thought I misread something

if youre planning on max settings (except raytracing) 1440p i wouldnt go under 3080ti.
(my fps dips to dual digits in valdrakken while it sticks to the 165hz of my monitor pretty much anywhere else)

if you dont mind fiddling with the settings or use 1080p im pretty sure that 3060ti would do just fine.

3080 here and I run the game on max at 1440p with Ray Tracing set to High and additional Ansel filters at about 120 fps.

If I told you what FPS I was getting with what I have now, you wouldn’t believe me :stuck_out_tongue:

Resolution you play at?

I would get a 3070 or 3070ti, whatever the best deal is. I have an Asus ROG Strix 3070ti and it’s been perfect and plays everything I’ve thrown at it just fine at 1080p and 1440p, plus a lot of games at 4k even.

3060ti wouldn’t even be a bad option if you are really cash limited but I would get a slightly better card and not have to replace it for a lot longer.

Picked up a Rx 6750xt for a good price recently, alot better then the RTX 3060 for around the same price up here. 3070 is anywhere from $650-800. Damn Canada tax.

upgraded my son to the 6750xt from 2060 super. very nice upgrade for $450.

I have a 3060Ti and it can be used with ray tracing.

4090 super ti

I’m running a 3080Ti and its really nice, I can run full settings but I knock it down a bit just to keep my system temps in a better place. If you have better cooling the card could handle max settings no problem.

I have a 3080ti and i use an ultra wide screen 1440p monitor. i have graphics maxed with ray tracing off (the minor image quality bump just isnt worth the fps loss). i wont go under 60fps in a busy city.

You can get a used 3070 for the price of a new 3060. something to consider. but either would be fine for a normal sized 1440p display i think, with ray tracing off.

Awesome and the cryo tank it came in is pretty cool too.

Gonna be controversial here.

Almost all current gen GPUS can run everything at high settings. Unless you have multiple 4K+ monitors and / or do video editing stuff, your GPU is gonna do great and last a good long while.

Get what you can afford. Even if it is last gen. A 1080Ti is still very usable for almost all current games.

I would buy 3080 at this point. Maybe even 3080ti if you can find it for a good price. It’s going to be a bit better future proofing wise, especially if you’re thinking about larger and more fps monitors. Although 3060ti is still the best if you are on budget.

I recently upgraded from 1060 to 3080 myself, for a 1440p 165 Hz monitor. Although WoW actually saw a very modest fps increase, it’s very CPU intensive.
