Ha, no prob, I know more about these things than this thread lets on, I just haven’t kept up with a lot of the latest news on video cards due to the price gouging. This will be going into a new rig I want to build next year.
General consensus here says I’m good no matter what I choose, though I’m curious if anyone has a recommendation for board manufacturer like ASUS or MSi or other. Or are they all pretty reliable these days too?
Actually, most people won’t notice the difference between 60-120FPS. The refresh rate of your monitor is what gives you the biggest difference in what you see, it’s what keeps your games from ghosting when you pan the camera around.
Also, not trying to start a flame war, need to stay on topic.
I have 3060 ti and 5600x and I never go below 90 frames, even in Valdrakken. That’s 1440p as well.
Also hz and fps aren’t the same, problem with 60 fps capped games and 60 hz monitor is when they are out of sync, less of a chance this happens if you have a 100hz + display.
i get perma 165 pretty much everywhere (165hz monitor) but drops to ~90 in valdrakken usually yes.
feels a lot less smooth at 90 than it does at 165. i wish i didnt notice it. but i do. youre lucky if you can stand it lol
i dont think it has to do with the amount of ppl in there since oribos had no issues sticking to the 165 even when filled with people. something about valdrakken.
I was messing around with settings because I was having absolutely terrible FPS in some areas. I found that when I changed the Ambient Occlusion Type to ‘Auto’, it cleared up a lot of the low FPS I was having. Not sure why it was set to something I couldn’t use.

im not about to change anything when theres only one place in the game that has that problem, and its not a place where i fight anything so… just mildly irritating.
Yup, I use a 3070 on 1440p and it drops some in Valdrakken even on graphics 8, which is what I play on. I kept everything default besides the 3 draw distance sliders that I maxed. I don’t have a fast monitor, so it’s 60 fps everywhere. It doesn’t even dip at the cooking event or the pre-DF primal invasions; it’s only Valdrakken that gives me a drop.
It’s an MMORPG, where there are NPCs and Player characters it will take a heavy toll on the CPU.
This is a common problem with high refresh rate monitors, if you can’t power them you pay in latency. Especially when you enable g-sync, freesync or v-sync
