yes it is actually. if you didn’t have cognitive dissonance as a fundamental mechanism of your psychology you would be profoundly broken.
I’d hate to be the type of person with so little willpower I couldn’t play the game the way I enjoyed…
You’re conflating susceptibility with intrinsicality. Every human is susceptible to cognitive dissonance, this doesn’t make it intrinsic, that would imply you’re experiencing cognitive dissonance 100% of the time in every facet of life you take, and if that’s the case - that person would need psychiatric help.
Every human being can experience cognitive dissonance, but it is not triggered by the same thing.
You having cognitive dissonance about your feeling toward flying is not human instinct because it is not something that every human being inherently shares.
Personal issues are not grounds to fundamentally change the game, and worsen the experience of the vast majority of the player base.
Maybe folks would not try to avoid the annoying trash mobs on the ground, if they dropped something besides a few silver, and copper Also it is Sunday. Now all we need is a couple of Lfr threads to go along with the flight threads.
That’s only because you find it more fun to be optimized.
I don’t find questing through old expansions fun, so even though it may be more efficient, I generally avoid questing. Instead, I mostly level through running dungeons because I find it fun.
On the other hand, I don’t find pathfinder fun, but I have to do it in order to unlock flying, which I find fun, so I try to be more optimized in how I achieve pathfinder by getting the most out of doing the least while at the same time spreading it out in between other activities that I find more fun, like leveling another character through dungeons.
In this case, the OP says they like to move via the ground, so they can choose to not be efficient if they don’t find flying as fun. It’s a video game, so it’s not like they would lose out on not being efficient all the time in it.
The only reason why their cognitive dissonance would happen is if they in actuality find it equally fun to be efficient at traveling by flight.
In other words, they want to eat their cake and still have it to look at. But the solution is simple. They can choose to ride ground mounts sometimes. And at other times, when they’re in a hurry, they can fly. It’s the best of both worlds.
you know it is interesting…
I wonder how many players here who argue for flying, would also argue against the idea of easy mode in dark souls?
i feel the same when people complain about something entirely optional they could have simply skipped from the beginning.
Sounds like you finished the bulk of the world content that BfA has to offer, which is why you got burnt out and bored.
Personally I finished flying and quit because I couldn’t stand Nazjatar or the diaper gnome place. They were just as not fun with flying as they were without it. So the problem really had nothing to do with flying, it’s that the content is boring either way.
Dark Souls appeals to a large market of gamers that want difficulty in their videogames. If the devs gave it an ‘easy mode’, they’d just be alienating their community. And they aren’t stupid enough to do that, so it’s a silly argument.
Gnomes ruined the game for me. Small hands, and smell like cabbage
This is real simple, for something to be optional, the options have to be relatively balanced. Flight is not balanced with not flying, it is at least 3-5x more efficient, there is no way to ignore that. If a talent did 3-5x more damage than any other talent and people complained that it was mandatory, none of you would accept “just don’t use it” as an answer from Bliz.
…and the Blizzard devs discovered the same thing when they tried to remove flying, and lost a such significant amount of subscribers such that they reversed that decision.
This thread is ALSO a silly argument, because The OP’s issue remains a “you” problem. Their inability to consciously override their supposed ‘basic instinct’ is not the game’s fault.
I suspect the problem is less with flying itself and more with the fact they burned themself out on a grind to get something they don’t seem to have truly wanted in the first place.
…You
…Problem.
OP, I hope you can come to terms with a solution in some way; if not then good luck with whatever your next game is.
Peace, out.
Yeah I kinda feel what you’re saying. I don’t think flying ruined WoW but I think blizz started designing the game around the speed at which people were getting around. Which I think was a detriment to the game.
Faster movement means more content needed to be added to keep players engaged and quantity over quality took over.
Why the heck are you replying to me specifically with this? I’m not the one advocating for OP’s requests and backing up their opinions.
Sorry, realized that and corrected.
LMAO. Translation: “I have zero self-control so instead of trying to control my impulses I’m going to indulge them like a 5 year old then complain about it and blame the game.”
I’d agree with that except look at WoD. It was designed without flying in mind and it wasn’t better than the expansions which came before, IMO.
Just don’t fly. It’s not hard. The game is still designed with roads and paths for you to use ground mounts on.
If flying bothers you that much just use ground mounts, nothing is stopping you but yourself.
