Hello. Today I finished the “coolest rune for a hunter” called “Lone wolf”. What can I say: this is the most mediocre waste of gold of all time. It does the same damage as the “Hearth of the Lion” rune, provided you have 125 agility from your gear. You take the same amount of damage, but you can’t have a pet, you have less crit chance and low mana and HP. What is this rune for in the game? Either remove it or return 25% damage.
And how much longer will we endure the cringing of pets with damage greater than that of a warrior with an epic sword? I have 2 hunters and I know what I’m talking about, I just send my pet to any enemy and it kills him in 10 seconds while I stand and watch.
This alone proofs Blizzard has no idea what they are doing. I like the damage reduction IDKE BTW. But should be 15% damage 15% Crit 15% more life 15% less damage taken
I feel like the only way they an make a claim like this is they looked at a trash pull where the pet got a crit on the only attack before the mob melted. I had 650 dps on my mage yesterday for the one arcane explosion i did before all the spirit crabs after kelris died. Please nerf mages for doing too much damage.
It’s worth pointing out that I’m talking about PvP if you didn’t understand. I don’t care about PvE where the Vars are the “kings”. I’m talking about broken pvp where you trinket your pet or where the best hunter rune is useless
The rune itself isn’t useless, its pets that are too strong now. Go back and check world record hunter parses in vanilla… only 5-6% of their damage was from their pet. A flat 15% damage boost to their non-pet damage would have been massive.
Besides the problem of broken pets, we have another rune that I wrote about. Hearth of the Lion is better and the better your equipment, the higher the percentage of its usefulness relative to Lone wolf
lone wolf needs to be buffed but honestly, the only way it becomes worth not having a pet over is if it’s buffed to a ridiculous extent. so all in all, it was a bad idea from the get go hunters are balanced around having a pet.
Feel your pain as 3 of the 4 runes I’ve acquired for my warrior are useless to me and my playing style… and I actually saved up and paid 2 gold for a rune not know the outcome… what a waste. IF by chance one makes “friendly” with the vendor, I think the runes should be available to anyone and used as talent tree add-ons… this way you could have benefited from a rune I purchased that didn’t benefit me. Runes should be generically labeled with unknown attributes until it’s socketed or placed into the talent tree.
Phase 2 should bring a rune reset like they do for talent resets… However rune can no longer be socketed into items. Instead placed in your talent tree to add extra specs to that talent you’ve selected. if this happens… thing WILL be different and this way if a hunter complains his pet is too buffed, he can tone it down himself with the right rune placed in the pet section of the tree.
Anything besides BM rune isnt viable.
Chimera shot and explosive are awful for everything besides massive aoe pulls or roleplaying as a class that primarily relies on marksmanship.
Honestly lone wolf giving you some of your pets tankiness would be interesting. But a hunter pet is basically everything.
Pets have some scaling now but it isnt actually that much.
At 60 they were a low amount of damage partially because most pets had very ittle up time on bosses. It wasnt uncommon to use wind serpent and use breath and pull it back. So they got basically 0 actual auto attacks off for many bosses.
At lvl 25 pets are naturally a larger percentage of hunter damage because scaling hasnt become an issue yet, so their base danage does very well.
And to put their new scaling into perspective they are doing that damage with a X.3 multiplier and 80% more focus regen that never existed. Those are contributing to about a 100% increase in pet dps. And thats with the scaling they have now. The scaling itself isnt amazing and only applies to their abilities.
To give an exampe the last numbers i saw was lightning breath getting about 12% RaP damage scaling. So at 500 RaP that adds about 60 damage per ability used. Its the rune that really amps them up, not the scaling.
So without the bm rune they really are not that much stronger. And if you are considering using lone wolf you would be considering the pets damage percentage without the bm rune. And without the bm rune the pet is around 20-30% of the hunters damage when not being bm spec as well for this level. This is only maybe a 5-10% increase From classic.
So even if the pet scaling was removed lone wolf would be about a break even dps rune vs no rune at all.
It isnt really fair to compare pet damage of a bm hunter with bm rune to lone wolf. Have to compare it with not using those multipliers on the pet.
