Here’s my Pastebin : pastebin[.]com/2ArZt1Sw
I am on brand new system, I have done a full system restore, reinstalled wow, played with and without addons, I’ve updated my video drivers, and uninstalled gforce exp, and rolled my drivers back two versions (one version first, then another clean wipe of drivers and then I tried two versions back). I have switched to Legacy DX11, and I’ve run with nothing but wow. I still have the same problem.
The issue is, I’ll be playing, and suddenly (often without me noticing) the world freezes, NPC’s don’t spawn or notice me, if I’m mounted I can dismiss the mount and keep flying without it. I’m effectively locked up, but I can still explore the world, I just can’t interact with NPC’s and the like.
This situation persists until I Alt-f4 out of the game. I can type /reload and it goes through the motions, but I’m still in the same state where I can’t interact with the world.
How far back have you gone on the drivers? Reports of bad drivers for nvidia back to the beginning of 442. I was running 441.87 successfully. You might try going back farther. Hopefully Nvidia will come out with a good driver for all of us soon. Also, I had better luck with DX11 than 11 legacy.
I only went back two versions, I’m trying 442.74 now

and 442.74 failboated on me, trying 441.87 now. Thanks for the tip. #hopeitworks!
Are you using a router? If so is it wired or wifi? Also, if so, have you used that same router previously?
If you are using a router, you might try bypassing the router and hooking the internet up directly to the computer. Could be a connection issue.
I’m on Fios, I’ve gone as far as to disable the firewall, and it still happens.
and it just happened on 441.87
Well dang. I’m clueless!!!
you and me both, it’s a brand new system, I built it just over a week ago, and I’m super sad that this is how it plays wow… every other game, 100+ frames no issues. Wow, random soft crashes that just leave me exploring the world, thinking everything is fine till I clue in that everyone else is on pause.
I have discovered what seems to be my issue… at least for now it seems to be.
My load time was terrible. I brought up my task manager and watched the SSD performance while I was hanging in the loading screen. It was maxing out at between 95-99% usage. Over 45 or possibly more seconds it seemed to just hang up the drive and it shut down the game.
Now, before I start WoW every day, I delete the Blizzard Entertainment folder from the c:\Program Data. My load time from scratch is like 4-6 seconds per zone. When I start the next day without deleting the folder, the load time is slow again. Not sure why it does that, but hey, I’m willing to go through the painless delete every morning. Just putting a shortcut to the program data folder on the desktop makes it quick.
Maybe some day I’ll figure out why the cache is messing up after the computer turns off overnight.
edit 5/26/20 Yesterday I went into the account settings and changed it to when I close out the battle.net app, it exits the app. Same for when I click on play… it now exits battle.net so it’s not running in the background any more. Yes, I think that affects the background downloader for updates, but if I want the game to update, I can just open the battle.net app and let it do its thing.
So this is what’s going on. I’ve been having frequent game freezes and disconnects when I port ever since 8.3. I get on average twenty freezes for up to thirty seconds every hour, and disconnected about two out of every ten ports. I’d say I disconnect on one of ten freezes.
This doesn’t happen when I play ESO, FFXIV, GW2, or sandbox games like Witcher or Dark Souls.
- Updating drivers, Bios, Windows, and re-installing wow did not fix the issue ( I even upgraded to Windows 10 Pro from Home as an attempt at a fix and tried several older versions of the Nivdia driver both game ready and studio versions)
- Resetting my UI made no Difference, and I’ve had the same problem with and without addons.
- I tried DX11 Legacy and DX11, no changes observed
- Closing everything else did not improve the situation that I could tell.

Now, I’m not 100% sure my issue falls into crashes and lockups, see it’s like this.
I’ll be playing, usually but not always it happens when the graphics get intense (boss fights/raids/open world questing when lots of folks pile on a mob) Then suddenly everyone will be running in place, or I’ll move some place where I would expect adds to agro me, bu they don’t. I can fly around and explore but I can’t interact with anything or cast spells use abilities etc. If Im flying when this happens, I can dismount and keep on flying like I was mounted. The only escape from this state is to alt-f4 out of the game. IF I was silly and didn’t land prior to alt-f4’ing then I fall when I re-enter game. My starting position is Usually near where I alt-f4’d, and this seems to be regardless of if I flew about or not, this isn’t consistent behavior, just something I’ve noticed.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Reinstalled the game just a few days ago and it starts out just fine, with any of the three directx options, but then after some short time it will start to have short 5-10 second freezes and some mini-crashes.
- Everything is currently up to date.
- I reset the UI and I have no add-ons installed currently.
- Ive tried running in Directx12, 11, and legacy.
- I’ve also tried running it with all background options closed.

Sorry, but you’re not all up to date. Not even close, really.
Nvidia driver
Driver Date/Size: 7/11/2019 8:00:00 PM, 959336 bytes
Your crashes look related to the graphics driver, so a clean install using ddu to a more recent - read the previous posts - driver downloaded from Nvidia would be the place to start.
Your issue sounds more like a connection issue than the issue described here. You’ll probably want to start a new thread.
Huh. It keeps telling me my driver is up to date though. Unusual. I’ll have to manually install. Also, I have no connectivity issues with any other game/system. I’m also directly connected to my high speed internet.
So the driver is now REALLY up to date, Im still getting some mini-freezes but without the crashes in all three of the directx modes.
what would i do if i cant even open up my game? it worked fine last night but now it just tells me the game is not responding on a black screen with the music
Black screen with music has usually been a graphics driver issue.
I have been playing on my gaming laptop, just today it has started doing this, i can open the game up but it just comes to a black screen then if i click the screen it then comes to where its not responding. so i have no idea what to do with it
