Lockups since 8.3.7 - Nvidia GPUs (Windows Thread)

I know when I have a problem with a website, I can clear the cache and it fixes it. Maybe you should clear the battle.net cache. I wouldn’t delete it, though, just rename it to battle.net old. See if that fixes it and if not, you can delete the new one and take old off the original one.

The battle.net cache can be found in your c:/program data folder.

Good luck. I hope you get it fixed. BTW I recently deleted my battle.net cache and my game is fine and it still works.

i have tried everything and that as well and it still comes up as a black screen, and i even reset the interface to where now its playing the cinematic but still a black screen

Have you tried bypassing the battle.net app? It could be something to do with how the app opens it?? hmm

And you have deleted your cache files in the game folder and the Blizzard Entertainment file in the c:\program data folder?

I dont know how to bypass the app, nor how to delete the cache, when i renamed the folder with the old it did reset my game to where it starts with the cinematic but still a black screen i dont know what else to do

Which one did you rename? the battle.net? Or the one in the game folder?

yes the main folder

I do this pretty much at least once a day to speed up my load time.

Go to your c drive and look for program data folder. Once there, rename the Blizzard Entertainment folder to Blizzard Entertainment old. But before you do that, completely exit out of WoW. You will need to go to your Task Manager and close out anything to do with Blizzard or World of Warcraft. Should only be a few pretty close together. Once you’ve done that, then you can rename that entire Blizzard Entertainment folder or simply delete it. It will cause zero problems. After that, restart the game and see how it goes. Some of those files will be dated back to when you first installed your game.

The only thing it did was do an update of the game, but i still have the same problem, sill a black screen with the cinematic playing in the background. I have a Battle.net folder that i named old and a World of Warcraft folder that i just named old, which made me do a quick update when i ran the battle net app, but seems like it did not help

On the battle.net app, have you tried changing the game version to wow classic to see if some game file is corrupted?

i have not messed with the classic wow, however i did run the scan and fix under the settings and it told me everything was working and did not need to be fixed, and my graphics driver seems to be working so i have no idea whats wrong

So you have no wow classic to select on the versions? It is just a test. You don’t have to play it.

Ok I was looking this up on a search and found that bypassing the battle net app allows it to run perfectly. You can just go into your wow folder and click on retail. At the bottom is Wow. Click on that to start the game. You will have to enter your name and pw, with the pw required each time, but it’s a workaround until you find what’s conflicting with the battle net app.

One question… do you use a program called wine?

ok…very bad, not even that is working it still is coming out to a black screen and everything.

No i dont have that, nor do i know what that is

im sorry lol…i have no idea what im doing or how this even happend i just want to play my wow haha

OK I’ll give that a go.

Going on half a year soon with zero response from blizzard. Totally appalling and incompetent. YOU STARTED THIS THREAD BLIZZ. And yet you will not respond to 250+ response with plenty of data.

I am starting to think they started this thread just to keep us away from everyone else. This is rather absurd…the dead silence is ridiculous…

Will this mess be fixed in SL? Or will it just continue from now on? Inquiring minds want to know, Blizzard people.

I have been with this game since the very beginning, and I have noticed they do not fix anything in a timely fashion anymore UNLESS you have a page of over 1000 complaints pressuring them to do their jobs.

Small issues such as this, are promptly swept under the rug and ignored. There has been a texture flickering bug that has been active for over a year now, but since it affects a small number of cards ( similar to our issue ) they just flat out ignore it.

I am not sure if the programmers now are apathetic or just plain bad at their jobs now. It takes them literally months if not a year or more to address anything that effects a small number of people.

It is sad. I have seen this company get worse and worse and worse throughout the years. I have never spent so much time in a tech forum until BFA…

On Sunday, 5/17, I updated to 445.98, removed several addons, started deleting the cache daily, and that’s been 12 days. I have not had any crashes since then. I will admit that only occasionally is the first loading of each zone/portal is not super fast. But each subsequent loading in to that same zone is fast, like 4-6 seconds. If I know I’m going to be doing something special and need to move fast, I will log in early and travel around to those areas and get them into memory for the day. Then I’m set.

Just the fact that my game doesn’t crash any more is wonderful. WoW just needs to fix the loading screen time (first or each zone for the day)

Do not let Blizz launcher run in background- 'nuff said!

Indeed!! I went to the app settings and selected the app to EXIT when I press play or when I click the X to close it down. It no longer goes to the taskbar and no longer runs in the back ground at all.
