Is this on intentional?
If so then why can starter accounts even level lock, what’s the purpose beyond pvp? Also it was a pain to farm 10g on a starter account, so even more lame that now I can’t play battlegrounds.
A trial account has limits: Level 20, 10 gold, no mail, just about no chat…
Yes, that seems to be intentional. It is better now as you can just add game time, and level up to 100 or until the last expansion. Which would take awhile.

Level locking puts you into a different que area with all the Twinks who level locked themselves on active accounts so they wouldn’t outlevel a bracket of PVP so they can destroy people. However only people who use the level lock are put in that que. So your in a different que then the other players who aren’t level locked. As a Starter account you should never need to pay the 10g cause you can’t go beyond level 20. All you can really do now is get 10g again and pay him to turn EXP back on to get back into normal ques again or make a new character.

I do not believe the issue (after testing it myself) has to do with the separate queue that xp-disabled characters are now in. The issue has to do with being an unfunded license with xp-disabled.
I have a friend who runs into the same issue when his game time ends and he forgets to re-enable xp gains on the characters he runs BGs with when his license is unfunded.
While this support article specifically mentions level 20 with disabled xp, from what I can see the level does not matter. You will receive the following error ( “Starter Edition accounts cannot perform this action” ) regardless.

I did this too, then went to buy it back, still cant play on BG… XP bar is still gone. Its broke. I was trying to create my best F2P toon i could, so i can still enjoy the game when my time is off. But now i cant really do that so this toon is now trashed (did you find a way to get it back?) -this was after i spent time grinding on armor so its not a “new” toon
What lvl is your toon in question.
It’s still a 20, i was just getting it set so if i bought time soon (just got the bfa) i could get on it without it going past the cap. Didnt realize this non pvp would happen haha also that was a fast reply 
?? I’ve been 20 for quite some time now. It only changed after i did the xp lock. I shouldn’t have gained anything since its still on starter rules.
Sorry i deleted my post after realizing you could lvl up 2 21 it mite be the exp lock thats causing the issue.

When i bought the lock i went to do a BG and it said that starter accounts cant do that, so i went “WELL THATS NO FUN” and farmed the gold to turn it back on (only took a sec to do) when i turned it back on it still says the same thing. Ive tried /reload and logging out in general.

No i get it the support article says to contact blizzard if the turning exp back on doesnt fix the issue I would try a full UI reset just on the odd chance also id create a new topic next time as this one is from june of last year and i dont know if that article is still correct.
I thought that starter accounts lost the ability to turn xp off when they gained the ability to bank up to 10 levels of xp at level 20.
Yea when i sent my reply i thought it was june 19th not 2019 haha I’ll give the ui reset a wack and see what it does, thanks for helpin.

You can still disable your XP on a pure Starter license (as well as on an unfunded license that has reverted to Starter status).
