Something to point out is that RPGs have an end, MMOs don’t. So MMOs need to create some system in order to keep players in the game. Dailies, patch content, a system designed to allow players to more easily do dungeons and level alts…
If youre talkin retail its because of decisions like including RDF.
They tried to reinvent leveling in Cataclysm and it was absolutely reviled.
Yeah I would 100% agree And I still say the only reason why blizzard does not want to put it in is a very simple reason because they make more money if they don’t.
Especially people that are on low pop servers or embalanced servers Is $25 per character transfer Even saying if one person has 1 alt that’s $50 per person.
That’s a lot of financial income they could be giving up Now you can make an argument well they may just quit the game somewhere for sure but obviously they think that well they’re going to make more money if they don’t put lfd because that doesn’t scentivize people to transfer.
That’s great, never said they were so not sure why you’re bringing up the distinction.
Well, that’s just plain untrue. Maybe that’s how you personally play RPGs.
That sounds like a retail opinion to me. None of your reply answered my question btw, which was:
If you hate leveling so much, what on earth made you choose an RPG, which are known to have character progression systems, such as leveling?
Honestly, I prefer cata leveling, less travel, quests made more sense.
Except for the SUPER MEME ZONES like redridge.
Exploration as in seeing the world and the story. Not purely for jumping puzzles or something else similar to that. I still don’t remember any of Cataclysm as I used LFD too much and story never clicked as to what and why we were there for all of the dungeons except bad people there.
That’s my point. Leveling to max is the point of this game. What are you really going to do right now, in any incarnation of wow at level 33? Not a whole lot.
Bloomsy is trolling me for saying not being max is a key aspect of wow? That takes the troll cake.
Oh, for sure. It’s much better overall.
Well, my point was that LFD helps with that.
Totally agree. I got distracted while typing. I had to respond to possibly the dumbest take I’ve seen in a long time.
Let’s rerelease our most successful expansion and change everything about it
Looks like a good plan…
This DOESNT exist though. Outside of mega servers (which hold a respectable amount of the games population), the leveling community is dead. I have 7 characters, 5 max level and 2 above level 60. In levelling all these characters on Arugal (biggest OCE server) the 1-60 population doesnt exist.
How can new players enjoy an MMO if your first 3-4 weeks of playing the game is an entirely solo experience?
And to compound the matter, as each expansion passes the 1-60 portion diminishes EVEN further. I have 5 characters at 70 now, that is 5 characters i will be leveling that are NOT in the 1-60 player pool. I am sure this is the case for MANY players and with a clear lack of new players (as paid boosts for new accounts removes new players from this pool), leveling alts form the majority of the 1-60 player pool.
LFD provides a supporting population to a constantly diminishing player pool. It also provides support for servers that have a severly deteriorated faction balance.
LFD ALSO provides a suppprting population for content as it rotates into redunduncy. Using my characters as an example, 4 of my 5 alts are SSC/TK geared or better. That is 4 characters i will not be doing normal or heroic dungeon content on frequently, further removing me from the pool of players looking for groups for dungeon content. This is a problem we CONSTANTLY see as expansions progress, one that LFD can also provide a solution.
I am not saying LFD should include content while it is current, for instance, northrend normal modes during the first few months of launch. But if normals are added to LFD when the majority of the community has mains in TotGC and ICC gear and alts with naxx/Ulduar gear… you are giving a diminished group of players people to play with.
I mean, just because LFD was there doesn’t mean you HAVE to use it to level.
I still level most of my characters through questing on retail even.
Just because one person orders chicken doesn’t mean you can’t order seafood.
To that end, it’d be nice to be able to run a dungeon at all. The last few alts I had didn’t have the chance to run any dungeons until Outland - since nobody was there. Just a handful of people buying/selling boosts.
Same thing, just because you don’t want to use LFD doesn’t mean you have to. That double agent guy leveled to max doing nothing but picking herbs. That doesn’t mean it was a good idea.
To me this is like the whole flying or no flying debate. Don’t want to use LFD? Then don’t. I’m positive those of you who keep preaching community will find it with or without LFD.
TBF a good questing route is about equal to leveling with LFD. Specially for non-support classes
Sitting in LFD queue while questing helps immensely in breaking up the monotony, too.
The solution to these problems could very well be scaling. LFD being cross realm only promotes the continuation of that “solo” experience you’ve faced without it.
Agreed, I usually do this when leveling.
I leveled one character the hard way back in vanilla. I didn’t have a real alt til DK’s came out, then I used RAF to power level 3 toons. Once they added dungeon finder I never quested again.
I know I’m in the minority here but I hate leveling. I can only do the same quests so many times before it gets stale. I look at it as a means to an end.
