List of Hero Specs - Drop your suggestions on "better" ideas below?

I don’t care about the spec names. I care about the abilities.

The Druid ones were fine I guess.

That’s the opposite of what was shown, with the obvious focus on Resto and Balance, respectively, in the Druid examples. More like “here is a thing for your spec you can push deeper into, or another thing you can pick as a pseudo multiclass instead.”

I want Dark Ranger to come into WoW the same basic way that it was in WC3. They are total leetsauce.

Kinda like a rogue that cant stealth mixed with a hunter that can rez stuff and also debuff.

thats exactly what was shown at blizzcon

Keeper of the Grove and Elune’s chosen is the options for Balance, it is connected to Resto and Guardian respectfully.

Balance
Keeper of The Grove and Elunes Chosen
Resto
Keeper of The Grove and Wildstalker
Guardian
Elunes Chosen and Druid of the Claw
Feral
Druid of the Claw and Wildstalker.

its safe to assume
Sunfury is Arcane-Fire
Frostfire is Fire-Frost
Spellslinger is Frost-Arcane

There’s a clear thematic indication for each. Like, Elune’s Chosen is just straight up an extended Balance tree, and oh here’s some leech so it isn’t just “more pewpew in Moonbear.” Keeper of the Grove is about summoning trees. Come on now.

I fully expect the other two to be heavily cat and bear based, as their names imply. Like Wildstalker will REQUIRE you to catweave.

Death Knight

  • Dark Rider
  • Darkfallen
  • Plaguebringer

Evoker

  • Chronomancer
  • Lifewarden
  • Scalecommander

Mage

  • Blood Mage
  • Sorceror/ Sorceress
  • Arcanist

The Druid tree with 4 specs is clearly more one dimensional, but it is meant to be more hybrid esque by the other hero specs clearly listed.

And Warriors literally have BLADESTOORRRRMMMMM!!!

I think Sentinel is gonna be about glaive throwing

They got their abilities spilt between mage and rogue when WoW came out. Necrolyte Classs. That is the only thing missing from WC1 that is not in game yet as playable.

This is my short list of those I would like to see changed (just from a naming / thematic perspective for the classes impacted)

Rogue - Fatebound
Shaman - Totemic
Hunter - Pack Leader
Paladin - Lightsmith
Evoker - Ruby Adept

To be clear I love almost all of them so much, the above list are the weakest IMO and could use more impactful names.

The only change I wouldn’t mind, is making the different names of the hero traits change based on race.

Example: Elune’s chosen could have something related to the Earth Mother for Tauren, and the Loa for Trolls.

I’m withholding full judgement until we actually see what these hero spec talents are capable of. BUT, many of these do just seem like synonyms of the current class specs already.

Hunter:
Right off the bat, these hero spec fantasies seem very elven/forsaken focused. Like I couldn’t imagine “Sentinel” or “Dark Ranger” matching any race besides Nelf, Belf, Velf, or Undead. Pack Leader seems pretty neat, and fitting for Orc, Tauren, and Troll hunters, and I assume that Rexxar fantasy. But a hero spec that sort of accommodates the non-elven, non-bestial fantasy of Hunters would be nice too. Mountaineer? Trapper?

Death Knight:
Feel like they’re missing a major opportunity for the Necromancer here. Could you imagine some hero talents that allowed unholy or frost DK’s to attack with range, and further emphasize their power coming less from them, but instead from the mindless undead they summon? Where their 2h weapons are more of a magical conduit for necromancy than a sharp object.

Monk:
Feel like Blademaster not being one of these is a missed opportunity. Samuro’s abilities are that of a monk, but with bladestorm. Could you imagine how cool it would be to be a windwalker, but suddenly be able to wield 2h swords? And have your attacks change to sword-based equivolents like Rising Sun Uppercut, Blackout Slash, Tiger Stab, and Rising Crane Kick becoming Fury of the Burning Blade or something.

Demon Hunter:
This is actually a very unique opportunity IMO to spice the class up a lot by actually giving them a 3rd hero spec. That way, you actually don’t feel like one buzz lightyear on the shelf of many as a Demon Hunter with an already limited set of play variation. 3rd hero spec: “Unchained”. Gameplay focuses on self-destructive abilities that deal immense damage. Can stay in meta form indefinitely at the expense of self-inflicted DoT ticking that ramps up the longer you’re in it. New changes like eyebeam reaching twice as far, “The Hunt” leaving a trail of fel fire, etc?

Tinker:
Gonna sneak this in here- We see those Machinespeaker Earthen. Bout time you give us the tinker class! A class of mechanics that use exo suits, turrets, bombs, drones, guns, electricity, and even repurposed Titan Tech and Azerite as fuel.

In universe, the following races would make sense as Tinkers through the following:

  • Goblin/Gnome/Mechagnome Tinkers
  • Dwarf/Dark Iron (Engineers)
  • Orc, Mag’har (Ex-Iron Horde mechanics)
  • Undead (Apothecaries)
  • Draenei (Artificiers)
  • Blood/High Elf (Arcane Tech)
  • Earthen (Machinespeakers)

3 specs:
Pilot (exo suit tank)
Artillery (Ranged Dps like Torbjorn in OW)
Scientist (heals + enhancement support)

Their Hero Specs would be:

Micro-mechanic (Artillery/Scientist) - make offensive or supportive microbots
Living Battery (Scientist/Pilot) - harness extremely dangerous amounts of electricity to your reckless benefit
Pyrotechnic (Pilot/Artillery) - create new bombs, flamethrowers, and munitions for your turrets, or for your exo suit’s arm-cannons.

Could be. I was thinking harmony for wind cause of their spells to create 3 clones or its updated version called Serenity. But thinking about it. you might be right too. Monk was hard to decide.

Stormbringer is deff enhance for me cause of Stormstrike, clash of lightning, Instant ightning bolt/chain of lightning. The free cast of them with thor talent.

Meanwhile farseer is more earth related. While Elem mostly use earth/Fire element, and air via certent set of talent they feel more farseer to me

Well its kinda still Pewpew moonbear. They will have access for Fury of Elune at random proc, with its added explosion at the end.

The heros talent are mostly about 2 different playstyle and you have to choose which one better for your playstyle. its just adding a little bit of flavor to your existent playstyle

Possible mage name changed could also be,

Archmage ( wc3 hero reference) arcane and frost

Wizard ( Warcraft table top ref) frost and fire

Arcanist ( wc tabletop ref) arcane and fire?

Legit the hero talent names can easily be taken from the rpg tabletop game or older wc games, like arch wizard too from the beyond the dark portal cinematic when the talk about arch wizard kadgar

I want to be a Nightmare Balance Druid

Their was a build in Warlords of Draenor were Protection Warriors could be a dps with sword and shield . I agree with Ardmccloud. Wish they’d bring that back as a HeroSpec for this next expansion was so fun! Was named Gladiator Warrior

Chosen what? Designated fire kindling? Also I think the Tauren kind of worship Elune, but use a different name.

I understand what you mean, but I’m not sure I think of a ‘colossus’ when I think of a Dwarf, unless it’s a colossal mountain.

For the Hunters, I think it would be neat to see there be a choice for MM to choose between two different Archer builds, maybe something like:

  • Starcher: Use the might of Elune to enhance your attacks with astral abilities, and summon a mighty Moon Saber to jump into battle to aid in your defense.

  • Darcher: A dark ranger who prefers to be concealed among the shadows, shooting shadow projectiles that drain the target of their health, and then out maneuver their target by ‘throwing your shadow’ that they can instantly teleport to by switching places with it, to secure the kill on their weakened target, or to make a quick get away from any nearby danger.

I know those are kinda ‘Elf’ themed, so maybe it would be something that could be worked into the Midnight expansion if it doesn’t fit into the WW Hero talent system.

What about Sentinel Hill in Westfall? You don’t think Dark Iron Dwarves would be a fit for a Dark Ranger? I mean, you’re right it does kind of eschew the normative roles of the archetypes that might feel a bit ‘off’, but I think that bridge was crossed quite a while ago once they began making classes less racially exclusive from each other.
So even though, yeah, they are more ‘Elf-ish’ leaning, I’d argue that the other classes also have their thematic identity that might seem out of place as well. Like, the warlocks and dks are probably not going to seem like an ideal match for night elves without a lot of massaging and twisting it into a completely unrecognizable spec. Like personally for me, when I think of NElves, I think of Druids and Hunters. When I think of Dwarves(and I know you’re not exclusively talking about nelves vs dwarves), it’s Warrior/Paladin. It’s actually funny you say ‘Mountaineers/Trappers’, because I vaguely recall doing some nelf quest(s) that actually involved destroying a bunch of steel bear traps that were placed around the forest. But when I think of the other races that would clash with a perceived elf-themed Hero spec, it still feels like they have strong representation with BM/Surv, which would mesh nicely with the Pack Leader theme if the roleplaying thematic aspect is important for them.
I see a lot of people disagree, but I thought ‘Mountain Thane’ just sounded right, because I think of a dwarf as having a sword and a mildly decoratively trimmed-yet very battle practical- shield with an accent thick enough you can’t really understand what he’s saying, but you can tell he’s fired up with the fury of a burning forge; basically a protector of his home. Where as an Orc Warchief might just be a vicious, bloodthirsty dude who just wants to cause trouble for fun; something that I imagine would be more likened to a cross of Fury and Arms. So while you could adapt the ‘Mountain Thane’ to each race’s version of their ‘Thane’, it doesn’t really translate like that. Imagine the basic thematics of what a Witch Doctor spec might look like. Is that going to lean towards a sci-fi Gnome mechanic, or is that going to be more representative of Troll culture?
If you want a spec after Hemit Nesingwary, what would that even look like? Give your character +100 Speech?
‘Smooth Talker: Increases your communication skills to convince random explorers you meet to go kill hundreds of animals; you request they don’t trouble you by bringing any of the meat/furs/tusks, as you just want them to enjoy the same ecstatic waves of pleasure you feel whenever you kick a clefthoof pup to death.’
