Lightning Shield, what the hell were they thinking?

I fought a shaman and the fight was all of 15 seconds long without them casting a single offensive spell, my own attacks killed me while he was stunned the whole time. It feels like all we’re discovering in this season is how poorly an ability can be designed.

Lets look at the math, the shield itself does about 186 damage and has a 1 second cooldown, that’s 186 PASSIVE dps against a target that hits fast, and it’s also an AoE, because WHY NOT.

I have 2.8k hp, so it only took 15 seconds of my own attacks to turn me into a floor decoration. Absolute insanity.

EDIT: Lets do some comparative math to a similar passive defensive ability they gave rogues this phase, we got the coveted Unfair Advantage, with a name like that it should give us the edge eh? well unfair advantage has the same 1 second cooldown, but it requires you to DODGE the attack, nevermind the fact that most rogue tank abilities give PARRY, the damage must make up for it right!?

But wait, rogues are using daggers exclusively this phase, and a dagger’s white hit is about… drumroll 60-80 damage! OH WOW, and it doesn’t even do splash damage like the lightning shield, that’s crazy, if only lightning shield had some sort of limitation on it like the old one did that prevented it from being insane like a higher CD, charges and a mana cost, then it might be a little more in-line with other similar tanking abilites.

The devs are all shamans. What do you expect?

So what you’re saying is, you forgot to pop your nature protection potion before fighting him.

Its not far off the mark to assume that most shamans are fully fledged bosses at this point that require consumes and a group to have a chance at beating.

You attacked a actual tank shaman, and were upset you died.

So you’re telling me you can’t do more than 186 dps to beat the shield dmg? Sound like a L2P issue.

<Insert about 1/2 the shaman runes>, what the hell were they thinking? Probably that they are going to have a great time playing their shaman if I were to guess…

He was elemental actually, and didn’t even have to press a single ability. I got killed by an afk shaman and you think that makes sense?

ive seen 2k Single hit Env in pvp against me as a shaman… SO ya about that hps u have let not talk about the mutli 800+ crits from just one of the mut hits when they tag you with a total of 4 before game even lets you know they opened half the time

It is actually entirely too strong, should be a 2 second CD at least and need to be recasted every 10 seconds (but cost no mana because it’s literally all Tank Shaman have for threat now).
I will say to be fair though even in era before all this SOD chaos came to be Lightning Shield was our low key sleeper damage and if it was used right scored us some cheaky kills.

I did an experiment last STV, I took off all my runes except for Shamanstic Rage and Two-Handed Mastery. I went in an OG Shaman, just windfuring people with the new Blood Moon totem, so many people didn’t release after I got off a solid windfury, I wonder how many of them will come to the forums to complain about Shaman damage when I essentially was playing as an OG Shaman lol.

The act Tank spec most shamans are useing is 21/20 aka more point in ELE spellhance i guess you could call it… but more in ele means Ele

Envenom requires 5 combo points and 5 stack of poison to cast even close to that hard, and then has to crit, and No, you did not get hit with a 3k envenom, even with full raid buffs and poison specced it crits for around 2.5k. So unless you got opened up on by a fully raid buffed rogue I’m calling bull.

Holy Paladin.

While this ability seems like it could be overtuned. Some Classes shouldn’t be able to kill other classes. Rogues have the option of not attacking the Shaman because it’s a loss.

Tanks should take 2-3 players to kill them, clothies should be squishy. Classes should dictate a form of class fantasy for PvP.

You shouldn’t need consumables to fight a shaman.

Rogues are also a tank class just as much as shamans are, however our tank runes provide almost no zero mitigation against spell damage and my health buff requires me to dodge/parry 6 attacks to ramp up to what a shamans single tank rune does passively, making it completely useless against anything that isn’t a rogue or warrior.

You’ve never needed to pop holy protection potions against paladins in turtle wow and it shows.

Read the PC gamer interview with Nora, wont let me link it tho sorry.

“It’s very much divorced from the idea that everything has to be pristine from a numbers standpoint, as if we have to be focusing on some kind of competitive game mode in Season of Discovery, which we don’t,” said Valletta. Even with the world PvP on SOD servers and its “nice juicy rewards,” the team merely has to ensure that realistically, anyone can get them."

“When we are aware that there’s going to be some kind of potential imbalance in something that we implement, we also start to think of ways we compensate in the other direction,” Valletta said. “It may not look identical across both factions. And we think that that’s some of the unique fun and flavor that Classic has always had.”

The second quote is really annoying because Aggrend confirmed the only reason we don’t have horde paladins and alliance shamans is they didn’t consider it worth the dev time.
