With all of the various books, pages, scrolls, etc that have been popping up, it would be really wonderful for us packrat collectors if these could be saved to a personal Library, rather than taking up space in ones bags. I would really like to hang on to these lore items, but there are so many of them now that it’s becoming a serious issue for bag/bank space. Like keys/toys/pets/mounts/quest items, there is no real reason these should need to be in bags rather than being another sort of collection. Here’s hoping this can be taken into consideration.
Yea that’s be good
Heck RuneScape had a personal book collection years now
Having had to purge my library a few expansions ago to free up bank space, I’m not sure I want to go back all over the game recollecting it all.
(Otherwise, I do like the idea)
I am running out of room for my books and scrolls that I have in my bags and bank. Can ol’ Blizz please let us deposit it in some library?
Ideally, it would be able to retroactively add stuff you picked up in the past and had to delete. I know it knows for the most part, since you can’t pick up those items again, tho ofc some stuff could slip though.
Also, revitalizing this thread, cause I still really want this to happen! They’ve added new book collections in TWW, even bigger sets than before! It seems like the perfect time to add a library collection.
A User-Interface Library is NEEDED
I want to bump this post back to the top and revisit my earlier suggestion from November 2023 - Warbands - Library/Key Ring - General Drop Down.
The idea is to implement a simple, yet highly effective, library window within the game—perhaps as a new tab in the Shift+P menu. This would be beneficial in many ways. It wouldn’t require complex graphics; a scrollable text list organized by expansion would suffice. Additionally, a search function would greatly enhance usability, allowing players to quickly locate specific texts, especially when they’re uncertain about the exact title or expansion.
This would provide some context, history, and hints for future in game events.
For example, while I was watching the BlizzCon livestream, I was playing the game and as the new expansion was described I knew some books and previous events from Legion would be a part of what was in TWW. I found small tidbits that connected to the new expansion. This isn’t an isolated case—time and again, we’ve seen crucial plot points in new expansions that tie back to books or lore from previous expansions.
The game is rich in lore, with a vast collection of in-game books that add depth to the overall story. From The Untold Tales of the War of the Ancients, which unfortunately wasn’t readable in-game, to Charge of the Dragonflights, which was readable, these books would have given context to players before the Dragonflight expansion release.
The books are not only a treasure trove for lore enthusiasts but also sometimes contain hints or context for current and future in-game events. There are books in the Stormwind Keep Library, such as The War of the Ancients and The World Tree and the Emerald Dream, that provide valuable information. But we can’t carry those books away with us. If they were accessible from our own UI, it would be an enrichment for those of us who love the lore.
I would like to be able to reference more books, but it seems my Void Bank has been wiped of everything but my tabards with the upgrade of the bank system. If I had them in a UI system, they would still be available!
Consider the Higher Learning achievement in Dalaran, which requires players to find several specific books. Not only does this require players to scour the city, but they must also keep track of which books they’ve already found. Imagine how much easier—and more enjoyable—this would be with a centralized library window that logs which books have been discovered and read. It could even track our progress across multiple characters, eliminating the need to carry these books in our bags or banks, where they currently take up valuable space.
The bank, even with the expanded space, is meant for storing gear, consumables, and other valuable items. A library feature would not only free up this space but also encourage players to engage more deeply with the game’s lore, enhancing the overall experience if they choose to.
Moreover, this feature could open up new avenues for quest design. Imagine quests centered around scholarly research or deciphering ancient texts rather than the usual fetch quests or the need for expository dialogue. These could involve piecing together clues from various books, leading to hidden treasures or unlocking new storylines. This would cater to both lore enthusiasts and those who enjoy more cerebral challenges, offering a refreshing change of pace from the typical gameplay loop.
At the same time, these kinds of quests should never be part of a larger Meta-Achievement like “A World Awoken.” Some players do not care about the lore and don’t want to do scholarly work, and an achievement like this would only cause them to loathe a meta-achievement.
Adding a library window would be a simple yet significant quality-of-life improvement. It would not only streamline the management of in-game books but also enrich the gameplay experience by making the game’s rich lore more accessible. With the continuously expanding environment, having a centralized, easily accessible repository of knowledge would be a valuable tool for both new and veteran players alike.
If nothing else, how about adding a “BOOKS” AceDB library? It would list the books and has a “true or false” variable for whether a player has found a book. If the variable is true it would show the text from the book in the UI interface. Then allow one of the addon developers to create the interface? That kind of addon could be done quickly if the data was broken out this concisely.
Hmmm a housing library where you can organize each section with a label too if you want could be cool.
