ive been delving into the SCP mythos and i’m fascinated. I wonder what came first, SCP-173 or the weeping angels. Both are completely terrifying

I used to be real into those things, they were very interesting early on

Then the floodgates kinda opened and significantly less skillful writers started making stuff and quality dropped off

I think some of it also got worse when you had stuff like that pink monster scp that even KO’d the big lizard SCP with tickles.

Cute and all at first but then people kept trying to make “Scps that are friends with this popular scp”

Like you said, the less skillful writers. Like the folks that ruined Slenderman lore and The Backrooms with oversaturation and not working on limits

I think the problem is that having so many anomalous entities has a tendency to just outright break reality, along with whatever established canon you get just kinda implodes.

But some of it creates some genuinely funny moments, there was one “what if” scenario I watched where a furry tried to put the SCP 1471 also known as MalO app on their phone and then place it in a machine that brings the character in the app to life while they go around terrorizing the other anomalies with their usual antics.

Then goes over to the witch doctor and uses their tail to sweep and knock off all their fancy surgeon tools off the table and they hold their arms up in the air screaming “SACRE BLEU”

I don’t know what it is, between the alone feeling you get walking in a procedurally generated reality versus the mathematically perfect order of having everything neatly organized in an infinite expanse

even being in a well lit grocery store alone is enough to give me the willies. All those lights and colors, I don’t trust any of it

tbf i’m more terrified of the ones that don’t have monsters or anyone else. that plays on this “nothing fear” i tend to have. but yet i have a sort of morbid curiosity with it
