I felt as if your version came across as the writers being more negatively dismissive whereas in my head it was more positive. Instead of it being “fixed” it was just working with the material they had to make something that used modern sensibilities. Edit: I don’t know if you ever spent any time on Tumblr, but it just reminds me of the kind of thinking that lead to Babadook and Pennywise being called “gay icons” without any thought put into why that happened or the implications it brings about.

Creating official backstories for every NPC in Warcraft doesn’t seem like a reasonable request, and, percentages for who should be what in a fictional population will be different for everyone. Just retcon it.

Maybe not, but going forward they definitely should. That would make it possible to connect to characters better. Plus inclusivity is important and should be more encouraged.

From a writers perspective ambiguity is your best friend. Allowing the reader to use their imagination to fill in gaps for any type of character will always reach a wider audience. Like our two Unicorn friends in Ardenwield.
