Can you please clarify if we’re getting any kind of LFG tool in TBC. I remember that being added at the time but it was kinda bad and none used. It would be cool to add the modern LFG tool for TBC classic even if it doesn’t work crossrealm.
quoted this from another article: “We don’t feel like it would be important to include the group finder, especially not like that dungeon finder with the auto-teleport,” Birmingham says. “We feel like that is antithetical to Classic – even though it’s really cool to have that option in modern WoW. […] We want to make sure there’s a distinction between those offerings, where if you want that social friction, you can find that in Classic. We definitely want to keep the broad authentic character of Classic while still making targeted fixes for things that are real problems.”
It was in from launch, and people did use it, mostly people who started in TBC though, oldies still spammed chat.
Authentic tbc experience should be with a group finder tool. Leave the zealots in vanilla I don’t know a single person that enjoys spamming/scanning chat to join groups.
It’s going to be there, they’re also talking about improving the UI for it with the modern group finder ui which I think is a good idea because if blizzard doesn’t do it, some addon author will
as an outsider looking in:
please for the love of christ don’t leave group finder out. if I need the Slave Pens but I’m out in Nagrand questing don’t make me interrupt my questing just to head out to Zangarmarsh and maybe find a group forming
There was a group finder tool in TBC.
A /lfg would be nice. Would allow you to flag yourself as LFG and go about your day until you find something.
Dungeon/raid Finder though…Ya, F that
That’s not what I heard in the Classic TBC Q&A interview w/ MRGM.
When MRGM asked about groupfinder / dungeon finder, Brian said that they felt the groupfinder originally in TBC wasn’t something they were going to go after…something to do with the social friction that comes with finding someone questing in a similar area.
This one is the biggest puzzlers for me…the TBC LFG tool was nothing more than a bulletin board that allowed people to flag themselves as a person looking for a specific dungeon, and provided a person looking to start a group a list of available players to choose from.
None of the group matching is automated, no one is ported to / out of the dungeon…everything in the group making process is exactly the same as vanilla except for all the world / group chat spamming.
It seems like such a uncontroversial thing to omit that its probably more to do with the technical challenges implementing it with the Shadowlands client being used for TBC.
Just gonna leave this here:
I wasn’t asking for the dungeon finder i was asking for a group finder tool, same one that you use in retail to find Mythic plus groups and raid pugs. There’s no automation you just post an announcement and people can apply.
Not only that…as a person who doesn’t mind starting a group, I’d be more inclined to do so if I had a list of people to choose from instead of spamming chat channels (which gets lost in all the other LFG spam in said chat channels).
It also beats the hell out of doing a /who and cold calling random players in a desired level range to see if they want to participate
they’re thinking of including the modern version of the which i don’t agree with. the TBC version of the tool was much more involved and you still had to manually invite people if i’m remembering correctly. (i had played on a TBC private server not long ago)
I think they should just use the old version of the tool to keep that authentic experience, but i don’t think it’ll make much of an impact either way.
No, the old one is terrible, retail group finder is way better. Zealots please stay in vanilla!
You have to manually invite with the new one too (aside from VERY specific circumstances like elite wqs)
Only difference is the new one allows you to list your group and people can apply to it, instead of listing yourself for people to snag up.
the old one was terrible, but it was what we had in TBC, so to create the TBC experience it needs to be included in it’s old form.
but if you’re doing heroic or normal dungeons you can just press a button and it will find you a group, so it depends on if they do it that way or like premade groups
This is the modern tool, you still have to invite people it’s not the one that matches you with randoms and teleport you to the dungeon.
again, if they do it that way i might not mind, but in retail if you queue for a heroic dungeon it will match you with randoms the teleport to dungeon, so it just depends on if they do it like premade groups or like dungeon finder
In the interview with MRGM and Classic Lead Engineer Brian Birmingham, Brian says that the LFG system from TBC wasn’t something they were willing to chase, and that they don’t feel like it’s important to include the “group finder”…especially the more more modern version that has the auto-teleport feature.
If anyone has links or other references from the dev team that say LFG will be included, I’d be glad to read up on it…but that is what I understood from the TBC classic Q&A from Blizzcon
