I don’t want to give Blizzard my phone number just so I can put up a note up for my groups. Is this seriously the best way to combat spam, Blizzard? Is it like this on retail WoW now too?
What?
Was this part of their maintenance?
What are you talking about? Nothing has changed that I can see, i’ve been making groups since maintenance ended.
You have to have two factor authentication to put that stuff up in retail for sure, probably same for classic. I’ve never tried it but I’ve seen retail forum posts about it.
Yes you need the authenticator to put a note up. My wife uses it, I don’t because it’s a hassle. So I can’t make notes in my LFG notes for raids or dungeons. Really stupid
This is what really makes it annoying having to make it so someone else who did put their phone number and authenticator to add a simple note to make my raids. Really dumb.
You don’t got to give blizzard your number. The Authenticator dosent require a phone number to do it’s job. You can even get the keychain one of you really want I still have one myself just phone app is more convenient.
The app sends a code via data not your phone line. Just like you don’t got to give a phone number to send a email.
Who cares if they have your number anyway? Maybe the dev’s wanna call one day to ask if it’d be ok for them to put RDF into the game!
And besides, half of India probably has your number anyway
Well also the devs have your credit card for the sub as such have your name and by extension your number via the phone book, but as said the app dosent need your number to work it uses data not the phone line.
Yes, selling our private information is not okay.
Lmfao.
That’s a wild accusation. How’s that tinfoil hat?
It’s not like Blizz is going to call you or anything. Of course it will be fun when the “i don’t want bliz having my phone number” people eventually get hacked then cry on the forum about it.
What are you talking about?
We are supposed to believe the multi billion dollar corporation that has a team of lawyers at their disposal?
United States privacy laws afford residents of some states additional privacy rights. At Blizzard, we support state-specific privacy rights, such as the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), that allow residents to opt out of future sale of personal information.
yea that authenticator is weird. never got it myself. strange move on their part
