LFD Solution Brainstorm

Instead of complaining, let’s try to use the collective wisdom of the very fine people on both sides of this argument to come up with a solution.

I’ll start with two ideas (not my original, but thought they were pretty good):

Idea #1
Allow LFD only for normal dungeons.

Rationale:
The main complaint from the pro-LFD folk is that it’s so inconvenient, especially from the perspective of leveling and alts. The anti-LFD folk worry about the start of the erosion of social interaction. Well, make it so that you have to form groups for any heroic-level dungeon just as it is now, but allow players to use LFD for any normal dungeons. Heroic level content is harder, and loot is most contested. One of the complaints from the anti-LFD camp is that there is a possibility of ninja looting, which would be more egregious when it happens with more highly sought after items. You can also guarantee that groups will have to be formed organically for at least one difficulty setting, so that the concern of the erosion of social interaction will be partially addressed.

Idea #2
Incentivize non-LRD dungeon running through dailies only completable without LFD.

Rationale:
With this idea, you allow LFD in the game, but don’t get any daily rewards for using it. In fact, you can complete dailies that award additional gold, rep, or whatever, but only for groups that form organically and take the time to do the dungeon the ole-fashioned way. For people who could care less about this, they could still opt to use the LFD, but there would be enough of a carrot to keep the traditional way of forming dungeon groups alive. This would also be nice for very low-pop servers who have no other means to form dungeon groups at certain hours of the night (speaking from experience!)

If you have your own idea, please do post, or feel free to tear apart or build upon the above ideas!

I think the best solution to try first is the modern retail LFM interface (Premade Group Tab).

Its alot easier to create and find groups and to put what roles you need for Questing, Dungeons, Raids, Battlegrounds, Arena (Remember there is no more arena roster for WotLK so this will defiantly help) and other activities.

It will also cut down on LFG spam and remove the need for the bulletin board addon.

LFD should be in for vanilla and tbc zones. Where it is actually quite difficult to find groups for it. Leave wrath LFD out until at least TOC, but preferably icc like it was back then.

If there all about “listening to there community” they will see that RDF is wanted and the only people complaining about removing it are people who are anti-social and want to keep boosting in dungeons

Have it in all content from WotLK prepatch, but to avoid loot ninjas, use the personal loot system for RFD dungeons.

idea:

No LFD, and Blizzard manages the realm populations and faction balance like they should be doing.

i mean people are still going to be boosting in dungeons. Not sure what your argument even is.

LOL personal loot. What is this legion?

Nope, but it’s a damn good idea for RDF dungeons.

To be fair, I didn’t come up with it. Was suggested by someone in a podcast I heard.

Lets not. Lets just get wrath at the patch it was promised. The thing we’ve been waiting three years for the thing we’ve been dealing with a lack of QOL for THREE YEARS FOR.

Only for Vanilla and TBC dungeons.

:face_vomiting:

It’s this.

Idea: They have had three years to fix this but its more profitable not to.

The only solution is to re-release Wrath like it was, because people who like Wrath liked Wrath how it was.

Being able to swap specs only on rested areas ( cities or inns)
OR just not being able to do so inside instances/raids etc

anything else would be quite disruptive

with LFD by the time ICC comes out?

and how are they going to do that exactly? take every single player character into a pool and then evenly distribute them among 5-10 servers per region so that there’s roughly a 50/50 split in faction population along with a good number of total people?

Solution that solves the community aspect:

Realm Locked LFD.

  • The cross-realm aspect that allowed toxic behavior with no consequences is gone.
  • Reinforces community because you’re grouping with people on your server.
  • The grouping is faster still, without the use of the cesspool that is LFG channel.
  • Rewards for tanks/healers etc can still be provided to encourage more involvement.
  • People will bond more because you’re on the same server, creating better communities than already existed.

Since LFD is not a solution for dead realms, they would still need to connect smaller realms together into Connected Realms (one realm, just server names to avoid name collisions), and a Realm Locked LFD would cover all those people.

Basically, if you can stand outside the dungeon together, you’re viable candidates for the same random dungeon finder queue.

They could add the 1-70 dungeons in phase 1, 70-80 normal dungeons in phase 2 and heroics in phase 3,4 or 5.

I wouldn’t mind it, but would love for it to be there at least from ICC on.

No reason it shouldn’t be earlier imo. It works. Dungeons would be run way more. A lot of the ‘cons’ are shared between having it and not having it anyway.

The solution is, if you don’t like it, don’t use it. Done.
